This is a picture of one of my favorite trees.I took the picture near our house 2 weeks ago.It was taken before the bag worms started working. They love the flowers as much as the bees.

Sadly my Sour Wood trees will not have Fall Foliage. The High Country of NC is being exfoliated by Web Caterpillars. They just love Sour Wood. The good new is that they cause no lasting damage and they are cyclical. Is any other area having this problem?

I hope that we're not! having an infestation! That's my favorite kind of honey!

We have tent caterpillars that bad, but in the spring. They're all over our cherry trees.

Is there nothing you can put on them?

Iowa has a lot this year. We haven't for a long time. I didn't know they went in cycles. That explains it.

Colts Neck, NJ(Zone 7a)

Can anyone tell me how old this tree has to get before it will flower?

I hope the poor thing just gets another set of leaves in the spring. How old is it now?

My Audubon book says the sourwood honey is esteemed.

Maybe cool weather will come before it makes an attempt to leaf back out. That would only stress it more.

It will leaf out in the Spring.I remember this happening before. It's just sad that there will be no Fall foliage display.

Even though it looks really bad there will be no lasting damage.

This is not the case with our Canadian Hemlocks. They are dying and there is nothing we can do.They look like they are coated with frost.I wonder what trees will grow to replace them. This happened with Wormy Chestnuts and now you can't tell that they all died.
