Hi,
Took my family to the Bronx Zoo recently and saw this electric magenta or raspberry colored buddleia and would love to have it. I emailed them asking what it is but I'm still awaiting a response. Any ideas? It really stood out. It caught your attention from very far away. Thanks.
Victor
Need to know this Buddleia
In the absence of a picture for us to look at, here's all the Buddleja's that have pics in plant files--take a look and see if any look right to you. In my mind, 'Royal Red' and 'Attraction' are the most magenta/raspberry colored ones, but without a picture it's hard to say if one of those is yours or not.

It might be, Michaels - hard to tell from that photo. Ecrane, I had looked through Plantfiles already and Attraction was the only close one I noticed, but it too was inconclusive. The one photo of it was taken in the full sun and makes it look brighter. The one at the zoo was 'electric', even in shade. They had it in a number of locations. Thanks!

Here's a link to several bright magenta cultivars from Bluestone Perennials. I have 4 of these and they've all been very healthy. http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/search.html?mv_session_id=77X6Dspu&co=yes&mv_more_alpha=yes&mv_more_alpha_chars=1&tf=name&to=f&rf=code%2C+name%2C+short_desc%2C+price%2C+qty%2C+new_plant%2Cdisc&sp=results_pics&st=text&mv_value=nametype%3Dscientific&mv_matchlimit=45&mv_value=srchtype%3Dkey&from_search=1&sf=children&su=0&op=ne&nu=0&se=1&sf=%3Acode%3Aname%3Acommon_name%3Ashort_desc%3Adescription1&su=1&op=rm&nu=0&se=buddleia&sf=disc&se=0&su=0&op=ne
Ran across this one at Plant Delights--could it be the one you're looking for?

Thanks again. The Red Plume or Queen's Robe from Bluestone, as well as the PD one, look close. I am still waiting to hear back from the zoo.

Two I used to sell that Spring Meadow carried was Raspberry Wine

and Opera

Opera is much brighter than pictured, but is characterized by the flower formation in clumps.
Unfortunately they no longer sell plugs of these two. I especially miss the Raspberry Wine. The Raspberry Wine was widely distributed a few years ago.
Either of these a possibility?
Polly,
From the description I would say that Opera is a definite possibility. It was close to fuschia colored, though I would still say 'electric raspberry' comes closest. This is very frustrating. Pictures can vary so much and be so deceiving. Thanks!
Victor
Victor, they are really close to the same color. Opera is distinctive in the flower formation. However, if you are really looking for a stand out color, these would both be that. About 6 years ago was the last I was able to get them to sell, but I still have the ones in the display gardens, and they are showy.
Oh, and by the way the one shown from Michaelsnursery, and Plant Delights are two of the newer shorter ones, top out at about 4 feet, as opposed to about 6 for the others. How big would you say the one you saw was?

Thanks again, Polly. No, these were bigger - at least six feet high.
Victor
Isn't that one of the English Butterfly Series series? They are great plants for the border. Do you sell those? I've been selling Adonis Blue for two years now, and customers love it. Shorter in height, and very floriferous.
Thanks again Michaels. It could be. How big does that one get?
Victor
Yes - it is Peacock™, in the Proven Winners English Butterfly Series. It has a height of 4-5' - and it is planted at the Bronx Zoo. It may not be the one you are referring to but it is at that zoo.
