Since I was stood up by my friend to go to a daylily/daffodil/peony/iris societ sale tomorrow, may just have to go check it out myself.

ViAnn, the concerts for today/tonight sounded just wonderful When it all ends this weekend? what in the world will you do.

Fifty years ago I was 9 years old, and on the farm, playing, helping with the veggie garden. and wondering what the next school year would be like. Had discovered boys, but not really into it yet.

Well, gotta get this body moving toward the bedroom, as I am almost comotose!!

Night all.

It's a Boy!! His name is Junction Citys Fireball. He is a registered Quarter Horse.Andrea is a long time friend and only the mare is hers the other horses are some neighbors that heard she was getting her horse out. The fire is contained and they are doing mop up now. Andrea came and got Libby(the mare) and took her home as soon as they reopened the road and the colt was born night before last. LOL he is fire red with a white snip on his nose so the name fits him well. Andrea says thanks for the help in nameing him. The other horses go home tomorrow I hope. Salsa is still looking for the mare but has the neighbors to keep him company. I told DH that he needs a new pasture mate...he only rolled his eyes.
Well I have an apointment with a new realtor today so hopefully this one will sell the property since the other one was totally worthless. She only advertized on their company web site and that was it and wanted us to do a bunch of tests for spliting the property so people could sub divide it. I thought that if someone wanted to spilt it they bought it and then did their own tests.
I have read everyones doings and canot remember all (nothing new there) so ~~~~'s to all.
I have to get moving since starting Monday I work the next 8-10 days straight 12 hours a day, with travel time that will make my days about 16 hours long LOL and that is before I eat or sleep. Must bake and cook and freeze now for next week.
Have a great weekend and I'll keep reading and try to comment better in the future.............Hugs Lauri

Morning everyone- my back is killing me and has been bothering me for a week or so. I added one of those egg carton spongie things to my bed and am wondering if maybe that is the problem. Drats, now I need to tear the bed apart...

Lugged my huge pressure canner over to DS to can his venison. We got it rolling and came home at 11:30pm - I was too tired to stay until it was done. They think nothing of staying up until 2 or 3 am - I need my beauty sleep!! They have emptied out one of their bedrooms for a nursery - so far I haven't heard any good news, but I'm sure things are in the planning stages LOL

We have a pig roast/wedding reception this afternoon - it is 1 1/2 hrs away. DS/DIL are going up 4 hrs early to help set up - they wanted us to ride with them. I am passing- will drive ourselves. I know they will start drinking the moment they get there and I am not riding home in terror.

Darius - glad Gracie is not preggers and has been spayed (always important!!) I know the $$ problem- seems like there is never enough to go around!! And I blew a wad yesterday and have been feeling remorse now....oh well, I'll consider it my vacation...

McC - been thinking about ya- hope things turn around.

laurie- congrads on the new horse - love the name - very appropriate.. Yikes, those working hours of yours sound awful....

I need a garden walk...BBL

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning folks,

Went back and read through the rest of yesterday's posts. Glad Gracie is not pregnant and hope she forgives you soon, Darius.

Good news about the foal, Laurie. The work schedule sounds brutal.

Chamber Music Festival winds up tonight. I work the last concert and will wind up having worked 22 and attended another 17 for a total of 39. There are audience memebers who get to many more than that. A whole bunch like to be in the front row and do nothing for the two weeks except attend concerts and stand (sit) in line. They get out of one concert and rush to the next line-up. I spent almost no time in line this year - but a couple of times the line was let in early because of bad weather. WAS is line for about 25 minutes for the 11 pm last night. The church was packed. Once it's all over, I have a very dirty house that will be calling my name; so no problem knowing what to do. Tomorrow evening there is a special concert followed by a reception for the volunteers. That should be fun.

McCool - sorry if I've made it difficult for you looking up what happened in history. It seemed an interesting thing to do. And there are all sorts of web sites that list the info. The one I decided I like best is a Wikipedia one - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_5 The main reason I liked that one was that it is very easy to go to another date. On some of the other sites it's a lot more cumbersome.

Well, there are only two concerts today, both pass-plus. I'm working the evening one and don't plan to attend the afternoon one; so there is lots of time to start working on the house, taming the laundry monster, checking the garden etc.

Have a great day everyone.

Ann

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning All,

I have company coming today and this time I am providing the food and cooking it etc.

But first more gardening to do. Yesterday I went out and started the Watersorb insertions, both in the few pots I have and in the ground around the plants that require a little more consistent water. I didn't get them all finished but a lot were done. They were calling for rain yesterday so I was hoping mother nature would do the watering. We did get some, but not enough to get down to swelling the watersorb.

I'll do my garden walk in a couple minutes to see who has been heaved up out of the dirt. They are predicting more rain today and tomorrow. I can only hope.

Off for my walk now. BBL

Ah Ann. I went to the Brevard Music Center last night. The performance was entitled "Planets." There is a Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute here and they captured large images of the planets (along with nebulas and galaxies) and put them to music. It was fantastic. Since the large auditorium is open on the sides, we started with thunder in the distance (large storms swept through the county but were avoided during parking and the performance), then later a chorus of peepers, and finally another chorus of katydids.
It was a hugely sucessful and fascinating evening.
Today I am going with a friend to a quilt show at the arboretum. She is the regional chairwoman for this year so I will be privileged to view and learn from her. I also have not been in the new bonsai building so that will be fun too. I may bring my camera in case I see something I love and don't know what it is. This is turning out to be a fun and eventful weekend. Now all I need to do is make time to work on my rose bed.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Molly - what is 'water absorb insertions'? I mix those water crystals in my pots while planting, but I still have to water daily- they are in clay pots and the water just seems to vanish.

Just got a call from my DSis and she is coming up tomorrow for a few days and my house is a total disaster. Thank goodness her DH isn't coming. I can just do a once over or leave the mess - she won't care. We will be gone visiting our old relatives, shopping and eating out - so won't spend much time her except to eat a couple of meals. I just changed the sheets, so she gets to sleep on semi-clean ones! LOL I won't tell if you won't!!

That means DH and I need to mow the fields -aka lawn -with all the rain we've had it has grown lush and long.

Vi- are you glad the concerts are all over? Or is it a let down.

Time to put on the work clothes and get going...sun is shinin...and the japanese beetles need taking care of - again

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning.. Up cup of coffee...Usually good to go by then.. Not so this morning. I could go back to sleep.

Read the rest of yesterdays now to see if I can remember who said what.

Darius gracie right? Glad she is healthy. Vet bills can be expensive. Se'll forgive you when she gets hungry. Kids the two-legged and the four legged are all the same in that trait. Is she still under the porch?

McC thoughts are with you.

Vi-Ann I kinda enjoy the this date in history you've got going here. Only thing since I wasn't even born yet foranother 23 days.............What can I contribute. I do remember Yellow submarine and Eleanor Rigby.
I ditto that question defoe asked. Whatever are you going to do when all these concerts end????????

CRS so I'm gonna go up get more coffee take a walk around and see what is up.

Good morning...

Great about the new foal, good name! Work schedule sounds brutal. Mary, glad yours is doing better too. Close call with the snake. Uck.

Gracie was out by the root cellar meowing up a storm this morning but wouldn't come closer while I was outside. As soon as I went back inside and closed the door, she came down to eat. I think she will forgive me in due time as long as I keep feeding her!

I awakened soaking wet, along with my light blanket, even though it was cool outside and I had the window open. My stomach is queasy and I've upchucked some gastric juices, don't know what's going on. Probably don't eat well enough and feel run down. Hard to cook for just one so I usually don't.

~~~~ to everyone, Have a fun Saturday!
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Already had enough coffe to keep me mobile, set the sprinkler on in front, and plan to move it later and do the side and back gardens. The landscape fabric is doing a good job of keeping the moisture in but they still need a good soak.
DH is off on a rescue mission to his half-brother's in S. Illinois, better him than me. He'll probably be back sometime tomorrow afternoon. I didn't offer my cell phone for the trip, since he lost his and hasn't replaced it I don't see any point in paying roaming charges for him to call me when he's on the road.
Gracie doesn't look as though she appreciated her office visit to the vet!! There is no expression in the world like the one on the face of a disgruntled cat. They sure can let you know when they are in a mood! Pickles look terrific, Darius. I haven't made pickles in years, and don't think I'm going to bother, we don't eat enough of them to make it worth while. Jam is another story....I love making jam. But, I save that job for the cold weather months.
Mary, it's good news that Breezy is doing so well. Are the fires contained now or are you still getting smoke from it?
V'ann, you have really been on the go with all the concerts, you'll need that vacation to get some rest. DH has been to Japan but I passed on that trip, as I had other commitments. He didn't enjoy it much, but that's no surprise because he hates to travel. I think that was a major factor in his changing jobs within his company, and now he doesn't have to go at all. Pity, because that was the only time I got to travel with him.
Molly is cooking? Mark this day in history!! LOL Has the Michigan flu gotten out of your system? I used some baby diaper liner stuff in some of my pots, and some of the soil I picked up this year had the water absorbant crystals in it, but I don't see much of a difference as everythng has dried up quickly in this summer's heat. I'm taking Ernie's advice and giving everything a shot of fertilizer today. My hanging baskets look awful.
WS, last year and the year before someone on DG had posted photos of the quilts at the Paducah Quilt Show. Some of them are just unbelievable. I don't have the patience, and probably not the skill, to attempt a quilt. My stepmother and her sisters were all expert needleworkers, and I have one of her old handstitched quilts, much faded and worn because they were made for use, not for show. I have some of her other needlework, tatted edging on handkerchiefs, crewel pictures, and embroidered tablecloths which will go to my older DD eventually.
Perfect timing for the new colt, Fireball!! Will we see a photo of him? I don't expect we'll hear much from you for the next couple of weeks, what a schedule!! And good for you, getting a new realtor. Some of them just don't want to work for their commission, wasting your time and expecting you to do their job. A lot of people are not even using one anymore, just going to the Multiple Listing Service directly, and posting on the internet. But that takes more time and effort on your part, as you become your own salesperson. Good luck with the new one.
I better go move the sprinkler, eat some breakfast and start the bachelorette weekend. Didn't I just say I wished he would go away so I could miss him? LOL Should have wished to win the lottery!
~~~~ to all, have a great Saturday, Oh, by the way, Sarv, did you come home richer or poorer from the Casino????

Sheila

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Okay, I am up, although reluctantly. DH's terrier woke me up wanting out at 6:30, she is a "barker" and barks at anything that moves. When she barks, we mostly ignore her, because she does it so often. Well, she was really telling us that the old arthritic pony "Rusty" had decided to escape the pasture again. He is a master at that! Then the neighbors started calling telling us that Rusty was visiting them. Rusty is a beloved neighborhood animal, that everyone looks out for. DH has captured him, and he reluctantly returned home. DH is now out checking the fence to see where he decided to breach the fence!! Most usually he escapes when DH isn't here, and is very obstinate when I try to lead him home.

Last night was spent hulling lima beans, so that is the first order of business this morning. DH asked me last night to be very careful and only put enough in each freezer bag that it will be one meal for 2. He said that as much work as they were, he wanted to make sure that everyone was eaten!!

After that I may head to Louisville to that daff/daylily/peony/iris/hosta societies joint sale.

Darius, Gracie will eventually forgive you, just keep putting out the food. Hope your tummy settles down.

lauriewilson, thanks for the news on the foal. Appropriate name also. Don't envy you of that work schedule for the next bit.

Molly, is that product something that can be added to existing plantings? I thought that was only used when planting in pots. Oh, company coming. Hope you enjoy it.

Sarv, I don't like those egg crate things. If you just started using it, that my be the reason behind the back pain today. DS coming, here that wouldn't necessitate much cleaning. She knows how my house looks, and if I spruced it up, she would know that it had just been done! LOL Wise choice driving to the event today. I don't like anyone who has had anything to drink drive me anywhere.

ViAnn, I imagine the concert for the volunteers will be fun. Hope you enjoy it.

Woodspirit, the event and venue for your evening sounded interesting.

cc hope you get to functioning better soon, I know that feeling of wanting to go back to bed, but forcing yourself to start the day.

Okay, better get something done with these beans, and then a good thorough mopping of the kitchen floor. One more day of canning, and there will be a real danger of getting stuck to it!!

BBL

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Sarv,

Watersorb crystals, yep, you have the picture, but they are supposed to make you have to water less. If you are watering your pots everyday, then it seems you have wasted your time putting the crystals in.

I don't keep too many pots of plants except when I am starting cuttings. Okay so I have some orchids and a couple tender tropicals, but that's my story.

Sugarweed has been using these: http://watersorb.com/faq.htm
So anyway, I got some too. Figured it won't hurt to try. I bought 10# and at the rate of use, it will go a long way and last a long time.

Darius, I did NOT give that bug to you. Maybe you had some visitors from Michigan? Sounds like that virus, not just an issue of lazy nuitrition. You need to take care of yourself at this time. Push fluids, chicken soup, power drinks specially. I didn't have the throwing up part, but I had the other part. You have to keep yourself hydrated until it runs it's course. Just be careful.

Molly

Hi all! A little cooler here thank God.

lauri-Congratulations on Fireball's safe birth! I'm so glad to hear it and would love to see a picture!

Ann-Thanks for the today in History!

darius-Take care and stay hydrated...Hope it passes quickly

sarv-sorry to hear about your back.. I can barely stay awake until 11, in fact I'm usually zonked by 10 and wouldn't wake if the house were on fire.

I guess I need to read up what happened yesterday. I was "on the road" collected DD#2 from a week long trip, did all my medical/alelrgy stuff, and waited for DD#1 to arrive from Nicaragua, although when she came in a 2 am I was sound asleep. Dh said she told a few stories of scorpions in their beds and killing a coral snake in the compound when they arrived. She's a better man than I, I do NOT think I would want to go to a place like that. The mirrors we sent were a big hit, they gave one per family and the kids were all excited to see what they looked like! DD evidently thought the best part of this trip was the hiking through the jungle to deliver the goodies and food to huts all over. I guess a contingency of 20 or so kids went with them.

I'll catch up and be back....Blessings to all especially you who are not feeling good today.

I bought some Spray-N-Grow from QVC and only used it once on this plant. It gets the early morning sun and is protected by the house.

Whew, I just had an exciting adventure! Went outside for a smoke and saw a steer in my front yard. Called my neighbor (they are theirs) and Charlie wasn't home. So his wife came over. You shouldda seen 2 old women trying to herd an energetic young steer. He finally got up on the hill behind my house, still on my side and by then Charlie came home. He took down the "water gate" in the creek and got the steer back across. Now he's fixing the water gate better. At least I don't have a flower garden in the front yard yet or I would have been upset.

Too bad I didn't have a video camera although I couldn't have taken a video of myself. It would have been too funny!

dmc, sounds like DD had a great adventure and educational experience. How wonderful about the mirrors. :)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Sheila,

Okay, okay, Jeremy, cut the sirloin up last night and put them in to marinade. I showed him where the back up teriyaki sauce is kept. I also put the corn in the salt water to soak and I know today, I will make a spinach dip. Jeremy won't do that.

We're have shish ka bobs. We got the peppers, onions, mushrooms and steak. Jeremy will grill them.

What I really meant to say was, my dsil won't be bringing all the food this time and cooking it for us, although she is a most excellent cook!

I really do need to get up from here now.

Wow, it's been active here this morning! I'll scroll up to catch up more completely, but wanted to comment on a couple...

Laurie, great news about the birth of your new colt!! And Mary, I was so glad to read that Breezy is doing better. Yippee for Darius' cat, too! Lots of good critter news recently. :-)

Those crock pickles look delicious! I made a small batch 2 years ago, hoping to be able to do some again this year. I just took the row cover off my vines, hopefully left it on long enough that they won't get CMV... lots of blossoms and tiny cukes starting to form, so if all goes well we'll have a nice crop for pickles of all descriptions! I lost quite a few plants after they were set out, but I planted a second round (started them 3 weeks earlier) last week... since cukes will produce until frost (or cuke mosaic virus) hits, that should work out fine.

BTW, for anyone with an overabundance of nearly anything from their garden or orchard... you must check out Linda Ziedrich's book, _The Joy of Pickling_ http://davesgarden.com/gbw/c/186/ It's scary to imagine this book in the hands of somebody like Darius... I've gotten a little carried away from time to time also, but if you've never pickled grapes or blackberries, you should try those recipes too! Needless to say, there are all sorts of cucumber pickle recipes in there also.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Morning all! Slow start today. Sore neck but it is feeling better now that I've been up a couple of hours lurking.

I made a decent breakfasr for us. Scrambled eggs,sausage patties and toast. I pretty much only cook breakfast on the weekends. Have to figure out too many other meals to fix during the week. Wouldn't a personal cook be good at times. Hummmm! Maybe they could do some laundry or something also.

Hope whoever is getting off to a slow start has a wonderful day. Whoever isn't feeling well gets better fast and for those that have big plans for the day have a great time.!!!

I don't know if we are going shopping today or monday. Both would be nice. I can always spend his money.

Taking a break- just finished cutting the lawn with DH. He rides the big 'John' and I ride the little one. I snuck in and popped 4 frozen cookies in the toaster oven - I already ate 3, I'll leave him one..He's out trimming around the pool (he never does this unless I get nasty....)

M5- I bought some little Indian children several outfits of clothes for school LOL - yes I LOST!! But man on man, do I love playing the slots. Good thing we don't have a casino closer...I could become addicted. I have a dear friend that is so addicted - she put a 2nd mortgage on her house to pay her gambling debts. Next time I go I may play black jack...

Darius - you sound (type..LOL) like you are feeling better. Chasing a steer at your age LOL Wish I could have seen it!

sg -that's some datura - is it more than one plant? I have several that self seeded in my veggie garden - they do much better than the ones I plant in my flower gardens!! I have the purple stemmed doubles planted -if you need some seed, I'd be glad to send you some this fall. I also have a double white that I started - hope I get a pod from it to get more seed. I almost like daturas better than brugs because they flower almost non stop for me. Brugs seem to come in flushes.

dm- glad DD made it home safely - bet you will enjoy her tales of what she's experienced.

oops, gotta go, here comes DH!!

Hello everyone! I havent been around here in a week or so and I have no idea what has been going on so I will have to start over! It would take me forever to go back and read all of those days posts.

Got some laundry going now and will have to start washing the dishes shortly and probably will make some brownies this afternoon for the kids.

DH and I went on a trip this week to Tuscaloosa to check out the college and apply for housing and check out the schools the kids will attend. Still not sure where our youngest will attend. He is in that in between daycare and preschool age and we want him to end up in a day care where they actually do something educational, not just do nothing all day. Oldest son will be in a good elementary school. We wont be moving there until next year but it's necessary to start early or we will get last pick of everything. So that is what I have been occupied with and of course going to work and looking after DH and kids.

How has everyone been doing? Any news?

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

darius-hooray on the pickles! Dh is excited about doing them, ours are coming in slowly right now. Maybe I should go buy a bushel at a local farm (20 miles east, in the Champlain Valley, they get their stuff almost two weeks ahead of us). Though then I'll probably end up with mine rotting on the vines.

LOL about the steer. I remember one was in our yard when we were kids and my brother ran in and grabbed the cover for the bird cage and tried to play matador!! I was scared to death.

critter-did you do crock pickles? Have a good recipe? Thanks for the link to the pickling book. Getting started on any new venture seems to involve lots of reading .

Tomatoes are coming in fast now, will have to start simmering sauce and maybe dehydrating the plum tomatoes.

DDs are still sleeping, we've been weeding all morning and I potted up my iris shipment. I think I got 10 bonuses....didn't even count em all. Need to make a big lasagna bed at the farm for these.

McCool-wanted to say,I'm sorry about the DH job. I had to get orthotics and the bills for all were almost $1000!! I still wear them constantly (although I can, after 9 months, get to the bathroom at night without putting shoes on). Our insurance covered part of it. I can NOT imagine how people are supposed to get by without medical care, or work a job without being able to stand!! I will be praying for you to get good news and get out of the Catch 22, and for DH to feel better.

Clinton, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi, all! I haven't been on for quite awhile and I miss everybody.

Darius-I have your nigella seeds ready to go and will mail them out on Monday. If anybody else decides they want some, I still have plenty, so let me know.

I had a very exciting and expensive day yesterday. DH and I went to a used car sale that a friend told us about. He got a flyer that said no down payment and $89 a month so we decided to check it out. The cars were bank repos and lease cars that were returned when the lease was up. We got there after driving an hour and the sign they had up said $89 down. We talked to the dealer and looked at several vehicles that we knew were definately not going to go for $89 a month and finally ended up buying a 2006 Ford Taurus for $14,000. ($12,000 under the sticker price.) We did get a good deal on it, but we didn't plan on spending that much. We really did need a new car because all we had was my DH's truck and the fuel pump is going out on that, plus it was a tight fit for all of us to ride together. My brother also bought a car, but he went a little cheaper with a 2002 Grand Prix (only had 20,000 miles on it) that was also a repo car.

After we spent all that money, I went grocery shopping. Our local grocery has a huge meat sell every few months. The owner also owns a butcher shop in another town, so I think he has a surplus occasionally and sells it off at his stores. I ended up spending another $80 there but I got alot of meat. I bought 10 lbs of hamburger, 10 lbs of sausage, 15 lbs of butterfly pork chops, 15 lbs of ribs, a 10 lb ham, 5 lb bag of boneless chicken breasts, and several other things, so we're stocked up for awhile. My brother went also and spent about $130 but his tastes are a little more expensive than mine. He bought 16 lbs of ribeyes, 20 lbs of pork steak, and 20 lbs of boneless chicken breasts. Our freezer is now full of freezer bags of various meats and nothing else. Anyone want to have a cookout?

I'm sure you could probably tell from my mentioning my brother but I think I forgot to tell you all before. DB has now moved in with us. He's my baby brother and is only 20. He went thru some really rough spots over the past couple of years, but I'm proud of him now. He's really straightening things out. He went to college for a year and got in trouble and kicked out of the dorms and then didn't pay his bills at his apartment, so dropped out of school. He moved in with our mom and then got kicked out by our stepdad because of drugs so he moved in with a friend for awhile. Since then, he completely quit doing drugs, lost 90 pounds by diet and exercise, signed up for the Air Force, got a good job as a line mechanic at a factory (same as my DH), and is paying off all of his past debts and paying us rent every week(only $30 a week so he can get back on his feet) He really is a good kid, but hasn't dealt well with issues in the past. I really think the Air Force will help him a lot. He leaves for boot camp October 3rd, so we will have him here until then, but it works really well because I work days, he works 2nd shift, and my DH works 3rd shift, so we don't have to get a babysitter now because there is always somebody here with the kids.

Also had a new kitten show up here recently. She is very skittish and doesn't want to be touched, but is slowly getting better. That brings the count up to 2 inside, 3 outside, 4 strays that don't want human contact, and a dog. I think I'm going to try and trap the strays and take them to a shelter. We have a no kill facility close by that takes in cats and will keep them indefinately. They get them all fixed, get all their shots, and have them in big rooms with lots of toys and cat trees so they can play around and they are never kept in cages. They also have volunteers that come in and interact with them everyday so they get used to people and are able to be adopted. I volunteer there whenever I can.

Well, I have written a book, so I think I will stop for now.

~~~s to all.
FlowerChild, thanks!
I just finished another noxious kitchen chore... grated a bunch of my zucchini for the freezer. I have enough to make at least 32 mini loaves of zucchini bread this fall, maybe more. It makes nice gifts for the nursing homes at Christmas and I always sell a few. Froze it in 2 cup portions. I need to learn to use the FoodSaver my sister bought as soon as I can get my VCR hooked up and watch the tape (or read the manual).
Unpacked a few more kitchen boxes today and now have stuff strewn everywhere until I can get extra shelves cut for the kitchen cabinets. I may run down to Lowe's (a mere 40 miles) since they will cut to size and I won't have to get my saw out. I have also decided we need a china cabinet but have NO idea where to put it unless in my sister's LR. I don't know even if she's planning to bring the etageres our mother had. They are of poor quality but the curved glass is nice.
Later Gator...
flowerchild I''ve heard of those places for cats. Isn't it great that people will do that for animals? My DF called last night. She got a kitten from someone else that couldn't keep it. 3-4 wks. of age. the lady said it was eating for her but my friend was having problems. I went on line for her and finely found formulas and one was perfect.
Did you know kittens need to be burped if hand fed? It was well worth looking up that stuff because I never know when I'll have to rescue kittens again. Never feed them on their back either.
Good deal on the car. Sounds like it was fun.
It's always nice to hear thar someone is overcoming their problems. Sometimes all it takes is the right person to help.
OK folks. Call me a sucker and cross your fingers for me. Just got in and found a message waiting for me - would I be emergency substitute house manager for the closing concert this evening? Well, I said OK! Someone's got to do it. I haven't managed a house in 3 years - swore off it after they left me sitting at a church for over 30 minutes after all the other volunteers had left with DH impatiently sitting in the car and fuming. Well there's only one concert this evening; so that shouldn't be an issue. The big thing is I'll have to be there by 6 instead of 6:30. Wish me luck.
Lots of luck and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed (that'll get me out of weeding, too, LOL)
VAnn, good luck!
dmc, my pickles are still burping so I assume 14 days wasn't long enough. I hope I didn't ruin them by opening prematurely, don't know where my book is at the moment.
Hooray! Just had my vegetable garden area tilled. It was not an easy job, as I didn't find anyone to come disc it after it was plowed. However, the young man across the street fought the big clods and got it in pretty good shape for this fall garden. I posted photos here:
Good luck Ann, I'm sure it will go well under your sure hand. And Darius!! What a great start! You must have picked the right neighborhood, you've found a number of willing workers. I don't grow zuccini any more, but my egg plant is doing well in the container! I don't know how many we'll get off one measly plant but I'm sure we'll eat them all up very quickly. I'm broiling two lamb chops, those, and a baked potato will be my dinner since I'm all alooooone......LOL Usually if DH is gone overnight, I treat myself to a steak., but these needed to be out of the freezer.
Have a pleasant evening everyone. Keep your ears open, kittens are popping up everywhere!!
Okay, I DO NOT have the Michigan Flu. It seems I have a tooth abcess which accounts for all the yuckiness this morning. Boy, can I identify with Twyla a couple of weeks ago with all her tooth pain! Not fun.
I'm baaaack. Been MIA all day. I didn't get to the flower sale, decided that I didn't want to drive an hour each way, by myself. I froze 15 pints of lima beans, cleaned the kitchen, mopped the kitchen floor, Then went to DM's and power washed her front porch. She has a porch all across the front of the house, white vinyl siding, with black wrought iron trim, but she has gazillions of spiders, and boy do they make a mess. So power washed the porch, and in so doing,some of the paint on the concrete floor flaked off, so will have to do some painting the first of the week. Then went to the garden, gathered some more green peppers, and heirloom tomatoes, I have many jalepano and haberno peppers that need to be picked also. Then home, ate a bite of lunch, and by that time it was 2:00. So rested on the couch for a couple of hours, no one here, no telephone calls, no interruptions, so it was good. Fixed supper, all fresh veggies. DH got anxious to see if the sweet potatoes were doing anything so he dug a hill, and brought in some small ones, so I baked them, boy were they good. Went to see Mr.B's puppies, they are going like little weeds, then went to collect rent from our no good renters. Got some sob story, about messed up pay checks, etc,etc. I get this everytime I visit there. Told them if they were not caught up by the 15th of this month, they would get official notice to vacate. They are about $1,500.00 behind. I am too soft hearted, but jeez, it would seem that rent would be the first item I would pay, in order to hav a roof over my head!! So am home now, and have a stack of bills, bank statements, etc to sort through and get taken care of.
To all, I have read everything, but can't remember who did what, so will refrain from embarrasing myself by wrongly commenting. I'll be back later, maybe after taking some notes. Speaking of kittens, the cutest little calico showed up at DMIL's house, and DGD named her Anabelle. She was sort of standoffish at first, but now is the official greeter to anyone who stops by. Will try to get a pic and post here. DMIL asked me tonight if I wanted her, and I said that when the puppies are born I will trade her a puppy for a kitten!! LOL
Can't believe that between 9 and 11:30, no one has posted.
I have visited all the forums I normally watch, and am calling it a night. Hope everybody has a good night, and awakes refreshed.
Well I'm back. Will tell you all about an interesting evening tomorrow. The Concert was LONG (till 11) and complicated, but we survived.
Will be back to put up the new thread.
Have a good night,
Ann
