CLOSED: Found a critter

Does anyone know what kind of beetle this is. I found it sucking the figs on my tree with the snout nose butterflies. It didn't seem to be hurting anything other than the fruit.

Looks very much like what is pictured as Trachyderes mandibularis here... http://bugguide.net/node/view/60562/bgpage

That beetle is the Horse Bean Beetle (Trachyderes mandibularis) http://bugguide.net/node/view/42430/bgimage

It would be great if you could add this beetle and your picture to the BugFiles:

Common Name: Horse Bean Beetle
Order: Coleoptera
Family: Carambycidae
Genus: Trachyderes
Species: mandibularis

~ that's a big bug ~ the bugs up here don't come that big. Though I did have a Lunar moth outside my back door for about a week. Wish I could have got pics. He just parked it on my backdoo frame and stayed. Left one day and haven't seen another since. ~ Sherry

Thanks for the ID everyone. After some research I also came up with a name for it and it is totally different. I came up with "Dendrobius mandibularis" Here is the info and picture I found.

deeskitchen,
"Dendrobius mandibularis" proves to be an earlier synonym, for the same Long-jawed Longhorn Beetle "Trachyderes mandibularis".

We will soon have the facility to add synonyms to the BugFiles entries and can then see that both names are registered,

Thanks Ken. I didn't think of that. My figs are covered in them right now. They love the ripe fruit.
