Coffee and ... for Thursday, August 3
Bonnie guest admitted with canner in hand lol.
Maria no fair showing unflattering pictures of me you have pictures far better than my fat tummy to show lol oh well I yam what I yam . Maybe they would like to see the Decption Pass pictures better.
M5 there are two secretes plant till it hurts and keep on planting, and fertilize every time you water use a very dilute solution.Aditionly a green house helps. Also plant so close the weeds are stiffled. I have been at this a long time and always end up saying I should have or next year. When I grow up I will get it right I hope.
Kathy funny thing about my onions I bought to many starts Alisa Craig, Big Daddy,Sweet Sandwitch, Mars, Red Burgermaster, Copra And Cipolini. I also started several types but after planting 540 feet decided to give my starts away. Last night looking at an alisa Craig on the scale that read 3.5 pounds I had to say Judy you spanked me with my own onions Lol every last one of hers was bigger than any of mine hmmm.
Ann at lat I have found another concert lover don't you just Love Bob Dylan, Niel Diamond, and the likes of Carley Simon wunderful wunderful lol. Hard to beat Roy Orbison either.
Sweet Jenny is tired and wants to go to bed night all . Ernie
Good Morning,
Woke up with the dogs whining. Got up and found the neighbor was here to borrow a split awl. Can you believe we even have one to loan Haaahaahaaaa. Jeremy was talking to the guy so fibured it was good he was up.
Time to paint the roof before it gets too hot. So he is getting ready now. The dogs have been out but need feeding, as do the birds.
McCool, yesterday when I stopped into the hardward store in Archer, I put my business card on their bulletin board and there are some other places to do that as well. I was hoping my internet store would take off and I could phase out of the painting business, but that isn't gonna happen anytime soon.
Bonnie, The fish was wonderful. Sprinkled the triggerfish with Bay Spices, put them in the roasting pan in the oven for 30 minutes and they were done. Fresh salad with that and it was a deal.
Jeremy made biscuits yesterday, but we have no gravy or sausage today. Maybe just a biscuit egg sandwich for breakfast. I really need to get to the grocer today to restock the pantry and freezers.
Well, the animals are complaining at me, better get to it now.

Morning All! These temps are some much nicer. I also never thought I'd say the 80 temps are nice.
Had a fun evening last night. DH and a young guy from work hauled home the the new bulldozer[now what is he going to take down?] The other guy had his little girl with him. A 2 1/2 yr old named Emily. A little blonde bombshell. We got to pick flowers for her mom[who was at work] tried to get fishy kisses but the fish were to shy. Tried to get Dawson kisses but he was to excited for a little one like that.He forgot his manners. What a pleasure having a little one around for a bit. I am so envious of all you that have little ones around.
Was watching the hummers this morning. Yep! I think some of them are related to the Pudgies. The battle was on again this morning. They are just amazing.
I've got to go. Have to head to town today. See how much of DH's money I can spend.
Hi and~~~~~~~to everyone and hope you get the weather you need and that you feel better today. Vicki
Hi all, some HUGE relief here, it's 71 this morning. It was up to 89 in the house and 96 outside with thick humidity yesterday. Unpleasant is an understatement! I think the worst is past. Time to check the gardens-tomatoes are ripening fast now.
Glad others have relief as well.
Ernie-I only planted burgermaster this year, but they're nice and big, and boy are they good. I think i'll do more onions next year. How do you store all those, or what do you do with them? I wondered about dehydrating, but I guess I wouldn't do it in the house, i think I'd get sick of the smell.
Molly, roof painting does not sound like a fun job...how hot is it there?
Dorothy it's only 74 right now. We have a couple hours before it gets really hot. It is also allowed to spray the hose on the roof when it gets too hot and then paint, but we'll quit and wait til tomorrow morning before we do that maybe.
We'll see how it goes in the meantime. Jeremy is pretty quick with the roller.
Got the birds and dogs fed, now I need to make some h'bird nectar. Juja gave me a feeder last weekend, but I haven't felt up to doing anything outside. Time for it today. Jeremy has spotted that hummingbird again so we need to make that little flitter happier.

Good morning to all of you, it is going to be another hot day but I did throw a few balls for Samson just so he gets a little exercise, after 4 balls he stopped by himself, that was a good thing'
Happy you enjoyed the photos, I want to add Linda does a lot of work to with helping Ernie, she loves planting flowers in the spring, her favorite are Dahlias and lilies also lots of sweet peas.
Sheila do not feel bad about your garden it looks very nice from the pictures you posted but I thought I was a gardener too till I saw Ernies achivements, he is one in a million. His harvest is shared with his extended family, friends and neighbors plus Linda's and his co-workers, they are such good and kind people.
I'm getting rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Falling nice and steady for sbout an hour now. Was 68 on the paio at 7am and I'm likin' it. Last night we got about 10 minutes total of rain. Went outh of us Big Bend, that area. Real dark to the south but oh well. Hey M5 did you get that rain??????
S'posed to go to State fair, that seems to be on hold at the moment. DS's birthday today. 23..........he thinks he's etting old. I told him hush before I smack you. Old. My auntie was old...............101 when she died and I'm hoping to take after her.......
Good Morning Everyone. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
I wonder if I can grow up to have a garden like Ernie? Love the photos, Maria.
Some good news this morning. I talked to the Virginia Dept. of Agriculture who oversee selling home canned goods. It appears that after I go through the paperwork and they inspect my kitchen, I can sell my jams & jellies legally. They do not require a commercial kitchen, just at least a 2 bowl sink and a separate storage area (cabinet) for things like sugar and canning supplies. I have to give them recipes and label everything with ingredients as well as a business name and town, and keep my fat cat out of the kitchen when I'm canning.
I have just 2 more runs of peach melba to do once I get my lazy self to town for more lemons.
Had a lovely long visit with my yard man last evening. He took the loss of my yard work nicely. I know the yard will look awful in another week or two but it cannot be helped. I don't even have my push mower here yet, not that I could mow all this yard with a push mower. Mike WILL help me with the storage building inside the barn as I have money allocated for that. (Hope it's enough money!) Just need to get cooler weather.
The AC shut off after dark last night and the temp. in the house is still below the thermostat setting so it's not on yet. I may get used to a cooler temp inside the house when it's so stiffling outside! I don't think I want it as cool as the setting (78º) though. Maybe 80º or 82º.
VAnn, the concerts sound wonderful.
Gracie came home for dinner last night, and breakfast this morning.
Good morning, DGD made blueberry muffins for breakfast, help yourself.
Ernie, yes I believe I will start admitting only those folks who have come to help me with whatever task is at hand!! I think that is a sure way not to have company. Great garden, why don't you come to Kentucky and teach me how to have one like that. The veggie garden (DH's project) is so full that it is providing it's own shade.
Maria, thanks for sharing your pictures with us.
Molly, I can't believe it is hotter in Ky, than Fla. Our low last night was 80.
dmc, glad you are experiencing cooler temps.
ves, I have to go refill the hummingbird feeders also. I was out just a bit ago, and they are visiting an empty one by the front walk, and they just hovered in front of me, as if they were saying, okay, now go feed us.
|Now really, I am going to post that picture I threatened you with the other night!! May want to get out the blindfolds!!
Yes, Maria, I thought so too.....and I do subscribe to his "plant close and fertilize all the time" but he has outdone us all! DH and I differ in how we plant, he likes nice orderly plantings with space between and I like helterskelter crowded beds with things growing in every direction and taking up all the space so the weeds can't even get a hint of sunshine. Different strokes....With the landscape fabric we put down, there's not much weeding in those beds, and with my crowded gardens and all the grass clippings being dumped in them, the weeds are down to a minimum there too. Much less bending and stooping this year.
And, this morning we have rain and cooler temps! What a relief! Not supposed to hit the east coast until Friday, according to the weather channel, and I hope that will be the last we see of the terrible temps for this year. Not so sure of that, we have all of August in front of us.
Ves,we have one lone hummer that comes to visit, in spite of hanging the feeders early....and it's the same little drab guy who came last year, or one of his close relatives. He must be the ugly duckling of the hummer world! My DS gets them by the dozens and there's always a hummer squabble going on around her feeder, sounds like a beehive.
Olivia goes in for her last in the series of shots today. I'm still finding the occasional flea on her, but not on the others. They are getting treated three months in a row, they had their second dose the other day. And Souky found another mouse in the basement, and I threw him/her in a bucket to drown. Told DH they must be getting in through the lower garage because those doors do not fit as tightly as they should. He bought more sticky traps for downstairs, but just for the garage where the cats aren't allowed. If we have them now, imagine what will happen when the cold weather starts! They will be having mouse-a-palooza in the basement.
Molly, I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm sure putting the cards up will have an effect eventually, but it's a slow go until you start getting some word-of-mouth referrals.The roof painting should help. LOLed about your biscuit sandwich...I made an egg sandwich one morning last week but by the time I piled cheese, and lettuce and tomato on it, it was so big I didn't need to eat lunch!
V'ann, a wedding to plan!! Congrats to your DD. That will give you something to do instead of sitting around and twiddling your thumbs. (LOL)
It was such fun to have my DS and his bride use our house for theirs, and the weather cooperated nicely, so it was a wonderful day. Your successor at the Food center is still lagging behind your energetic management. They must miss you desperately!!
And yes, Ernie, I want a greenhouse, a real one with glass and fans and vents and heat (Dear Santa.....) but it isn't likely to happen. I live vicariously through the ones you have and Robert's great trellises and such. I consider myself lucky to have been able to establish the beds we have on our acre.
Need to get moving, ~~~ to Elaine, Bonnie, Darius, hope, Misty, Somer, Suzie, Dorothy,Sarav, Cece, and Mary, and anyone I've skipped...have a cool day, and fresh tomatos!!
Sheila
Just missed you, Bonnie! ~~~~ and heading for the shower.
Sheila,
DD#2 lives in Vancouver. We are here in the east. Don't know yet where or when the wedding will be, but at 32 in less than a month and her fiancé is a bit older, I think we will give them a lump sum based on the cost of DD#1's wedding (plus inflation) and let them make their own plans.
Can't comment more yet. Have to catch a bus a bit before 10.
Ann
Morning everyone.
I sure thought I heard someone say they had murdered the laundry monster? If so ... you didn't do a good job cause he just ran to my house. I am tackling him today. I'm doing all the other boring but necessary stuff so I won't list it. My doc app has been changed for tomorrow at 8:45. I will be glad to go back so we can figure out what's going on with my arm.
Cece ... glad you are getting rain, but sorry you have to postpone the fair. Maybe you'll still get to go.
Twyla I think I saw where you didn't feel good yesterday? Hope you are having a better day today.
Maria, ~~~ at you and Samson. Looks like you're still having fun posting pics.
sarv, speaking of pics, you haven't posted any with your new camera lately.
Meezers, I enjoyed your bed making story. Sounds like you have your hands full.
dmc, how are things going at your house? You posted last week about them moving it to a new foundation or something? How are your horses doing in this heat?
What about your horses Mary? I do hope they are both well now. I have missed a couple of days, so I'm not caught up on the goings on. :-) Seems like I do remember your ride is canceled due to the fires in your area? I feel for the people out there. I'm terrified of fire.
Oh by the way ... dmc, I forgot to ask you ... how is your DD doing? Isn't she the one that's a missionary?
Defoe, enjoyed our talk yesterday. I always look forward to Wednesday. :-)
Well, I know I've done poorly at responding to everyone but our group is really getting big, so I'll just wave to everyone else. Y'all have a good one and try to stay cool!
We finished the entire roof and are off to Bronson for a well deserved breakfast in a sit down restaurant.
We just put one coat on it and will wait for another day to second coat it. Later when it's cooler and I have more money, I may get some elastomeric roof coating tinted to the Bleeker Beige color of the other roofs and re-coat this one. The elastomeric is like putting another layer of roofing on. It seals up all the cracks and makes it a solid, yet flexible surface.
TTYL
P.S. Oh yes, the previous color was charcoal black composite roofing shingles.

We're still going to the fair. DH says he took the day off he's going rain or no rain. Its hard to get him to not go to work. The man is a workaholic from the word go. Be there 7 days a week if they'd let him. Holidays too. My first husband was afraid of work and this one............... one extreme to the other.DH is going to leave without me ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Cherie
Molly, I'll bet that will make a BIG difference in cooling the house! The elastomeric coating is a wonderful idea.
I just paid $3.99 plus tax for 5 lemons that are hard as rocks. Yuck!
Well it has been a busy morning. I have planted 12 iris in a bed, 3 blackberry lilies, went to the garden picked a 2 1/2 gallon bucket of green peppers, chopped and froze them, picked 12 heirloom tomatoes, just saved seed from them, froze 6 pints of lima beans, and have about 4 quarts of green beans on blanching now. Changed the beds, am washing the sheets, unloaded the dishwasher, and making hush puppies for tonight. Whew!!, I am bushed and it isn't even lunch time. Still have plenty more to do, and it looks like I will run out of day, before everything is accomplished. Gotta get moving, this was a break, with a cool drink. ~~~~ to everyone, BBL
|Molly, roof looks nice.
Already it's noticably cooler in here. And thanks Bonnie, you are right, looks pretty good for only a first coat.
This coat was intended only as a heat deflection, nothing more, nothing less. That's why I bought the cheapest paint on the market. The white does wonders on cooling down. Coverage on these was supposed to be about 2000 square feet per 5 gallon, but I knew I wouldn't get near that on this roof. That's why I bought 3 buckets. We used 2 1/2, 5 gallon buckets on the first coat.
The elastomeric is a lot more expensive and will take a lot more paint. Coverage for that product is about 75 square feet per gallon and runs about $80.00 for 5 gallons. And I WILL do that, but it has to be later. This winter we should be able to swing it and it will be a lot better weather-wise to put it on.
Back to projects now.
Molly
:^)))
Good morning? afternoon, whatever you have.
The first job this morning was to spray 7 wasp nests with Raid, the kind that shoots a stream so I didn't have to get on a ladder. When I went back half an hour later to check there was no movement. I waited until morning to get the most wasps in the nests and so they would be less active with the cooler temperatures. Goosebumps this morning again, partly because of the breeze. The thermometer reads 60 now and the sun came up 3 hours ago. The breeze from the north is nice. High forecast for today is 85 or so if my memory is right. Anyhow, we take what we get and I am glad it isn't dangerous.
Yesterday I rode Breezy for about 1 1/2 hours and Patch for an hour. Breezy is off his medicine and still has some coughing but I think he is getting rid of the residue so I want to keep him moving. I think if I ride him every other day it will be enough. Patch seemed happy to be going somewhere besides the road and the hayfields, but was a bit lazy because of the heat. As a matter of fact, so was I. The plan is to ride him about an hour for 2 or 3 more times, then increase the time by half an hour for a few more days. Then increase it again, gradually bringing him back to his pre-injury level over several weeks.
The fire about 40 miles to the east of us is still active but 60% contained. It's burned 53,600 acres as of this morning's report. Mostly the smoke from it has been going into Idaho, and a friend down there says it is very smoky where she lives. She is also about 40 miles from it. We only had smoke from it one day, and then smoke from another one way to the north for another day.
Late yesterday afternoon I went to town, met my hubby for dinner, he brought home half of his and half of mine. One restaurant has a pasta night special on Wednesdays, so popular that reservations are needed. The customers go along one side of a row of tables laden with ingredients and the chef puts your selections into a pan. It is cooked right there on portable gas hotplates, then they bring it to your table. Meanwhile there is the salad bar. It is just too much to eat, so we bring about half of the main course home, which helps to justify the high price. But the ingredients are fantastic, shrimp, smoked salmon, bacon, ham, all kinds of fresh vegies, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, choice of pasta, choice of sauce, and 2 kinds of cheese. So, no cooking tonight either! Such a deal! After dinner I shopped for a few groceries.
Ernie is indeed an amazing gardener! I guess the fertilizing is what I need to do, some of mine just don't look good, but with the heat they are in survival mode and will not grow any more. But I will have to remember that for next year. Some of the perennials need to be lifted and have compost put under them this fall. I have some iris and daffy bulbs that need to be in the ground. Maybe today?
VAnn, how nice to have a daughter getting married! Maybe you'll be making another trip to the west coast.
Meezer, your cat finds the mouse and you drown it, something wrong with this picture!
Molly, going from black to white on the roof will show some immediate difference in your house temps. I can't emagine anyone putting black on a roof in a sunny climate. I'm glad you are feeling a bit better. I wonder if it would pay to put an ad in some local paper? And don't forget laundromats and other places where there are bulletin boards.
It's time to get moving, dog walk is first on the list, then riding Patch, watering and all the rest. Have a great day everyone.
oh the pool looks so yummy be in one all time ,i love the water to my neck cannot swim.. have tried to just can't get it. ...i can face float for 30 sec.lol.. I do not feel much better its just hose painful days having it will ease up some till next time have the super tireds when have so much pain. it will be ok.. used to it kinda.. i can't take morphine once while i will makes me sick- sicker.. allergic to so many things. I made bowl tuna salad again last night so will eat some pretty soon be breakfast, lunch.. need to clean the cat last night tore up everything kitchen and l.r. chasing a pet.. on everything and in.. then she went back out side no show so far.. good..
Have great day everyone.. be well, safe...
Twyla
Molly - great idea coating the roof. I can just imagine how much heat the dark color soaked up.
Cherie - hope you enjoy the fair.
Bonnie - I don't know how you do all that.You need a bigger break.
Mary - glad to hear of the progress your horses are making. And I bet you're glad to get rid of the wasp nests. We have a restaurant here which sounds similar, but it's stirfries rather than pasta and they weigh your selections to determine the price. That way, though, we're unlikely to have many leftovers. Re the wedding, Mark's family is also from Ontario - a bit west of Toronto. don't know yet whether they will want to be married in the east or in Vancouver.
Hope - the tuna salad sounds good. I've decided NOT to go to the 5 pm concert; so may get cracking on something like that. think I need to get out to the grocery store.
BBL
Ann
Yippee! Just took the LAST batch of peach melba preserves out of the canner!!! But now that I know I can sell them legally, I wish I had more peaches and raspberries. I didn't get as many pints as I hoped but that's because the cooked recipe with no pectin calls for 4 cups of sugar whereas the sure-jell recipe calls for 7 cups. Sugar really fills those jars, LOL!
Now I need to go root in the barn and see if I can locate my cat carrier. Tomorrow is THE DAY for Gracie.
BBL
I want a pool!
Ernie~ Sorry the crabbing stunk yesterday...just Dave and Darren went out...got 4 in 2 hours...I guess if you were going to buy them that would be around $32+ so not too bad beings they just go out from Fairhaven. Gas is only about $10 and you have a relaxing evening on the water.
I think Dave may have the boat sold. Someone wanted to trade for a 25' nice sailboat moored off Vancouver Is. DH has always wanted a sailboat. But mooring costs, ect. ect, sailing it down........he is going to look at it next weekend. It's worth $3000 more than our boat....do we trade and try to sell??? OR....He has also had a couple calls wanting to purchase it. He says since he will be doubling the money spent...good deal. My dad has a bay boat we can put a little money into and it will be fine. My Uncle also has one......Anyway....hoping to get you some crab next week. We have a family reunion at the Oregon Coast Fri-Sun...then one in Ferndale 11, 12 & 13. Had one last weekend...I say we all go to the same place on the same weekend!!! My DSinL and I leave Aug.26-Sept.3 for a trip to see our girls in Vegas. Whewww!!! August is busy!
Almost have Dede Dodo done. Not exactly what I was hoping for but too much going on.
And speaking of the laundry monster...He is HERE! Working on that today too. One of my DSon's friends dropped her daughter off at 4 am...DThing wasn't having anything to do with going back to sleep. So couch, blankets and Nemo here we come. Got a once through Nemo nap, on the fourth time around right now. My DN just came...
Well, now Nemo is over, DN went to a friend's DM is cleaning the kitchen...we're off to Cash and Carry...have a great day everyone!
PS...Mary~ my DMinL has a horse named Breezy too. Not the one she fell off of.....She is out of her casts now...poor thing. Hope that fire stays away from you guys...the smoke too. That is nasty stuff.
Darius~ If you need any pointers on the jam business my DMIL did it for awhile. She had Hollee's Berrie's and put out two jam cookbooks...."Jam Journal".....;really cool with lots of recipes in which to use jam and journalling pages. And "all that jam" 101 Recipes to Make with a Jar of Jam......Hollee Eckman and Heather Higgins. She knows all the ups and downs and is the sweetest lady ever. She doesn't do it any longer, quit last year. dmail me if you'd like more info.
A thought for today.
LARD
Rendered and clarified hog fat. Lard is richer than many other fats, and makes superbly tender, flaky biscuits and pastries. The drawback is that 1 tablespoon
contains 116 calories, 13 grams of fat and 12 Mg of cholesterol.
Since we've become so health conscious, have you looked around to see how healthy today's children are lookin? :-) There's a higher rate of obesity and Diabetes in today's young people. Sometimes I wish we had our old way of eating back! LOL
Okay, you can tell I've been reading today. Off my soap box. Think I'll go have some ice cream and read some more of my diet book! *grin*
Everybody has been super busy today. Finally got to sit and rest about 1/2 hour, then had to bread the fish for tonight's fish fry, and make the hush puppie batter. Went out and cut fresh flowers to grace the table, now all I need to do is get in the shower and get dressed. So will check in when we get back tonight. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. You all take care.
Elaine - As I people watched on the bus this morning, I had cause to think about today's young people nd wonder why it is that the young girls wearing pants that barely come up to the crack in their behind all seem to have excess lard around their middles. At least the one I saw today has a shirt that came to the top of the pants, but that's rare.
First time I could get in here today- I was up at 4am, but my server was down. At 11am I finally called them in a snit - good grief - don't they know I HAVE to have my morning dose of DG??? Ended up taking my mom to get her library card and almost got on the computers there...but didn't...
I took my mom out to her 86 yr old sister's house. My aunt had made me a quilt and it was all finished. The colors are not to my liking, but it drips with love, so I shall cherish it. I'll send a pic of it in a minute. When those two get together, we all end up laughing so hard. They are both hard of hearing and get things so mixed up. Then I took my mom for a long ride past the house she grew up in and two others my aunt lived in. Down memory lane.
When I got to my DM house, she wanted me to come in. She had a bag of 8 bras she wanted me to have - can you imagine....She said they were just like new (NOT!) I took them and will dispose of them here. Then she stuffed something in my pocket- a 50 dollar bill for my trip to the casino tomorrow....sure hope I win!!
Darius-congrads on having a cooled house. We keep our air conditioner at 73 - seems awful low to me, but it sure feels good! We've only had it on for three days this summer - turned it off this morning. We had rain overnight and off and on all day. Gloomy out, but temp is down, although humidity is still high.
I went out and gave the brugs a shot of fertilizer - Ernie- you fertilize EVERY time you water? What strength do you use?? I have 40 or so dahlias too. Tell Linda they are my favorite flowers....I have one that is purple and the purple/white. Very strange looking!!
Vi - congrads on the upcoming wedding!! We gave both of our kids $$ -much easier that way!! I think for their 5th anniversary, we'll give them 500 bucks...I don't give them anything for yearly anniversaries. If the make it to 5 - then we'll celebrate!!
Molly, roof looks good. Sure hope the plant/paint business takes off for you. Takes time to build up a reputation tho...hang in there.
Mary- pasta dinner sounds great!! Reservations tho? I love bringing leftovers home - almost a 2 for one price!! DH is making a 'slop de bull'dinner tonight. He chops up veggies, potatoes and meat and throws it all together. Our kids won't touch it, but we kinda like it!! We never serve it to guests tho! LOL
Somer- sheesh- how many family reunions??? Three?? We have one in August, but it is so poorly attended, that I am not sure they will be having it. We haven't gone the past 4 yrs as DH refuses to talk to his DM...families.....
Defoe - cool looking pic..relaxing on the raft...ahhhh. I would take one of me, but I wouldn't show my lower quarters!! LOL Our pool is up to 89 deg- hottest I ever remember it being...
M5- mice eeeeekkk- keep them at your house- I hate them....
Well, time to watch Oprah!!
Well, I found the cat carrier in the barn after moving a ton of stuff, and a towel to put in it. No sign of Gracie since breakfast and she didn't eat much of that.
There is a Sam's Club 38 miles from the Vet's office so I may make a side trip there tomorrow after I drop off Gracie. Then about the same distance in the other direction there are supposed to be many farmer's market stands. Looks like an expensive day, even with just gas and the Vet. Figure I will drive about 240 miles. Ugh because my truck gets lousy mileage and has neither AC nor a radio.
I have lots of fresh zucchini to grate and freeze for fall zucchini bread and cannot find my graters... any of them! Of course I still have about 30 unpacked boxes of kitchen stuff and the ones my sister re-packed to save space are basically unmarked as to contents. Big help, huh?
Anyone heard from Blooms?
Sarv, your tale of 2 older women hard of hearing and getting mixed up reminded me of a family story. When m y mother and her sisters were teens, they had an elderly aunt who wore the old kind of hearing aids that you tucked into a bra. The connection would often be faulty and you just banged on it.
Well, this lady loved gossip so one day the girls started a seamy story and when they got to the good part, they just started moving their lips, no sounds. That lady almost broke her breastbone thumping her hearing aid!
LOL Darius!!! Poor old gal!! My mom and my aunt were telling of 'naughty' books they had read...I almost got embarassed....they thought it was hilarious!! Times sure have changed..
Almost the end of the day. Been a steady but easy week. Glad it's alomst over though.
ViAnn - I Like your starting the thread with the "on this date" stuff. Congrats on DD getting engaged.
Darius - Good luck with Gracie tomorrow.
Defoe - You look sooo relaxed in that pool. You definately deserve it with all you do.
Molly - That roof looks good and should make a big difference in the heat.
Elaine - hope the Doc says your arm is progressing.
Supposed to cool down tonight. It's still about 96 here. Just hope we don't get wicked storms when the cooler air comes in.
~~~~~at everyone. See ya later!
Vi~ Weddings are fun but stressful as you already know. I actually agreed to make some of the bridesmaid dresses for my daughter's wedding!!! Was still doing it 1 hour before wedding. One girl who was having someone else do it, brought it with her in two pieces, "Can you help finish this?"..Uggghhhh....I took the Maid of Honor shopping, "Said your the MH, colors are green/pink, BM are wearing green....pick a pink one." Lesson learned........We had the wedding/reception in Vegas and another reception here in WA. Vegas was outdoors and WA indoors.
Mary~ Reunions...DH, paternal 1st wknd Aug. Nahalem Bay about 140 attend. DH maternal was last weekend Portland, we skipped...all the people that were going we have just seen, will see this weekend or live here. We are not making two trips to OR two weekends in a row. My cousin, paternal has one for his Dad's side last weekend in July. Since my dad's siblings and families don't get together, my parents and siblings are invited to that one. Plus DD and DH work for him. Next weekend is just a small get together, camping, with my DM two of her sisters, their kids, and grandkids. As with any of them anyone is invited. So to DH's this weekend my brother and his family, DM and our close friends are going with. whewwww that was a mouthful!
Sarv~LOL...the Mom, Grandma situation....Darius~ would have wanted to be there for that conversation LOL....Here's one....my grandmother, who will not wear a hearing aid and is deaf (now 91), having a conversation with DA who had a stroke 4 years ago, who knows what she wants to say, but it's like charades or thinking of the poor checker at the grocery store with DA trying to help DDG check out! It's a crack up. When we're together DDG will look at me puzzled, what's she trying to say???? me...."SHE IS TELLING YOU ABOUT GRANDPA AND HIS COUSIN!!"....DDG, "What?"...."SSHHEE IsS Tellllllling you .........................................." Life is never boring in the Bowden household....NEVER!
the girls this am
I think it's great! Lucky!
Sarv, the quilt is great!
Okay I'm on a roll, maybe # three is the lucky number? Just hired the young man across the street after 2 weeks of recommendations from my next door neighbor. Seems like a nice lad, strong and willing. He will start with tilling the newly turned veggie patch, then on to building my shed inside the barn, and many other odd jobs including MOWING! I just have to go get gas for the tiller and mower. He was willing to work for $5 an hour but my conscience wouldn't do it, so to start, $6 an hour. He's 16, looks 18, tall and strong.
It's suppertime and Gracie hasn't shown up yet. Makes me nervous.
