Pixie, bet that felt good! wonderful, wonderful, lilies!! they really are magnificent, aren't they?

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, gram. They are. Thanks for sharing their gorgeousness with us.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes Gram...that felt great. I love to post and share my pictures but the hard part was not being able to share with my daughter. I send her 1 or 2 collages a week of the flowers growing in my gardens. Her favorites are the big smelly orientals and she knows they start blooming the end of July first of August. Even her boss asked "What growing in Celeste's garden this week?" I now have to send them to her work so the Boss can get his "fix" too!
Needless to say...I have alot of catching up to do.

My Hibiscus bloomed again and it seems the flowers just keep getting bigger!

ummm, that hibiscus is a gorgeous color. love to see it in person! too bad you can't send the scent of the orientals to DD, but I'm sure she remembers their perfume. All I have in the front of the house is one stargazer and all I have to do is step out the door and breathe.

btw...cooler this morning and NO WIND! I was able to get out and spray some of that nasty nutsedge (thanks, Al, for the advice). tomorrow.....on to the horsetail!!!

Gram ~ I wish I could send the scent to DG...like you I just have to step out the door and I can smell them. I have a small bed in front of the ramp going up to the front door, then one about 6ft long running beside the driveway. A few more on the side of the house, and then some here and there in various beds in the back of the house. On a good night our 82 year old Aunt who lives next door, can smell them in her livingroom while she's watching T.V. (she always calls to say thank you for planting!) LOL

Kayellen ~ I believe the pink one on the right side of the collage is "Starfighter" it only grows about 2ft. tall (comes up to my knees) and produces an abundance of flowers every year. It is short and stocky so it never needs staking and I bet I get more than 10 flowers off 1 plant. It's the hot pink/red one with almost white edging. I call it my "Mini Stargazer".

Al ~ I love wiegela. Had one but it died after two years....I believe there was an incident with the lawnmower. I love the shades of pink in that one!

Glads are finally starting to open, here's the first one.

Ok...don't laugh but these are the flowers I have on and in my dogs fenced in area. I do this every year for a few reasons:
A. It gives some eye appeal instead of just a plain fence.
B. If my neighbors have company, the dogs can't see them and are less likely to bark.
C. I had to have a reason to plant more flowers.

it's hollyhock seed pods, they're loaded right now

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Al, you should have given us a little more time for the 'sci fi' question. I was reading down to see if anyone knew it was a Hollyhock and there you are....
Here is a close up of a Hibiscus.

I really should of paid more attention...my yellow & black hollyhocks are loaded too!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Al, the weigela bloom really does look like a daylily!

I think the hibiscus are actually little satellite dishes. Are you guys communicating with your home planets?

Pixie, do the dogs like blue & yellow? I love the combo. I've made a couple of quilts in blue & yellow with bits of white. Made the first one for charity and my DIL fell in love with it and I had to make another for her.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sarahskeeper ~ I really like the hibiscus coloring, it's much softer on the eye than mine. I love the phlox too, only have white growing, I may have to try that lovely shade of pink next year.

Gram ~ I'm not sure if the dogs like the color combo...I'm actually a blue freak, any color blue and lilies do not come in blue. Do you think thats why I can't be satisfied with the one I've got????? LOL

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Pixie, where do you put all this stuf? You have so many lovely flowers and plants.
Here is another shot from this morning. Same flower.

Sarahskeeper ~
I have a bit of land to work with....between Auntie's house and mine there is approx. 60 acres. Auntie only has 5 acres that she uses...the rest is free to do as I please. (*grin)
The more I plant the happier she is and I can't say im crying, only when I think of "weeding" does crying come to mind. We have plum trees, apple, peach, cherry, and pear trees. Also have wild raspberries, strawberries and black berries. I have blueberries too, but I had to plant those my-self. Have a Red Maple tree, Hacks, Pine, Fir and 5 different lilac trees: white, pink, light purple and dark purple. All I can say is someone upstairs must like me because I have been blessed in multiple ways!

Hi, Everyone,

All of your pictures are just beauiful! What a treat it is to see your gorgeous flowers. I'm so impressed.

Al ~ Thats gorgeous!!!!! Cosmo?

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Had to laugh at those of you who were rhapsodizing about the scent of the stargazer lilies. My mother received a nice floral arrangement from one of my brothers and his wife. It featured a couple of those big pink stargazers. By the time it had been in the house for a few hours nobody wanted to venture into the dining room or living room. We dubbed it the "stinklily" and had to banish the whole arrangement to the front porch as none of us could stand living with it.

I have some white stargazers in a tiny garden in front of my store, but they are (thankfully!) fragrance free.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

McCool, I can see that the stargazer scent might be overpowering in the house :-)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

McCool ~ I only bring 1 or 2 flowers INTO the house....learned along time ago to many is to much scent!

Mystic, CT(Zone 6b)

Bigcity- I though your hollyhock seedpods looked like an artichoke heart! Made me hungry...

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

New morning glory that was planted late....didn't think it would bloom this year. I have a blue one with white edges that I am waiting for also.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ok Al ~ what plant does this flower belong to???

Thumbnail by pixie62560
Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I have morning glories I didn't plant this year, just like my cosmos.

actualy I did seed the double click ones in here, the others ones were there already.

Thumbnail by bigcityal
Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Pixie - maybe butterflybush, I don't recall the black petals on anything though.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al ~ Not a butterfly bush...it's actually a Delphinium that I planted this spring and thought it had died but is blooming now. My light blue one bloomed at the end of June/first of July so i didn't expect to see it at all.
I didn't plant any cosmos this year, they just reseeded them selfs from last year. Same with the morning glories and sunflowers around the dog fence...reseeded too. But I did plant thar new morning glory in the photo above and some blue ones just like it but was kind of late getting them in. If they both bloom and reseed then it will have been worth it.

Delphinium " Black Knight"

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey - my Black Knight is a butterfly bush so I'm half right ;)

My delph has been long done - I left the seed pods on to reseed as a backup.

this is probably my largest dahlia I have - don't know the name

Al ~ Beautiful! I'd call it "Cotton Candy" if it were mine! Soft, fluffy and sweetly pink!!
