Hi,

I'm pretty sure this is your fellow:

(Check out the 2nd picture down... it looks exactly the same as yours almost)

So, it looks like a Blinded Sphinx moth (Paonias excaecata)... When I saw your pic, I knew I had seen it before and that is was a Sphinx moth, but I couldn't remember which one! :)

Hope that helps!
God bless,
Jeff

Therer are recipes for feeding the night moths - most include some form of alcohol & sugars... They also love Daturas. Perhaps you can persuade this guy to stay awhile :)

Could you please enter this species into the BugFiles along with your lovely photograph.

Common Name: Blinded Sphinx Moth

kennedyh - That's why I put the picture in here to get ID I've just been busy the last coupld days. I should get to it this weekend.

JRush - This was taken awhile ago, when I was over at a friends of mine. With the BugFiles I remembered that we had pictures of the moth and that the moth was pretty cool looking, so I decided to get it IDed. Though I would love to see what else I could get pictures of if I put out some moth food, though it would drive my cats nuts, do you actually have a recipe?
