Is this Clethra acuminata?
Yes it does. Although the inflorescence are a bit long, but still it looks like C. alnifolia...oh you said acuminata...it looks more like alnifolia to me.

Some of the Clethra alnifolia clones have big old blooms; 'Chattanooga' has up to 8" long white flowers.
What I can see of the bark doesn't look like the cinnamon clethra (Clethra acuminata) I've seen. The pictured bark looks gray like summersweet; cinnamon clethra will have browner to cinnamon bark, with some extent of exfoliation/peeling.
