Knowing your ability to find the unusual, it could be anything! Looks like a cross between Camperdown elm and sugarberry.
Any hints?

You're getting warm....

Here's a pic of it last year.

If there was such a thing as a pendulous Eucommia ulmoides, I'd count on dybbuk to have it.

You know, VV, I was thinking the same dumb thing...that looks like a weeping Hardy Rubber Tree. Surely, there can't be such a thing, right?

There COULD be.....and stop calling me Shirley.

I'm still thinking Celtis/Zelkova genes are in there somewhere. Is it up there in Chicago or have you been doing some tropical travelling?

That is one impressive gnarly beast! What is it and where is it?

Yes, it's Celtis sinensis. A weeping monster. The parent plant is in Japan. It's super hardy. I have 2 of them growing here in Chicago.

That's cool looking, does it take a 100 years to mature?

You should post your info and picture in the plant files.

Niles, MI(Zone 5a)

I did. Put a bunch of my weirdos in today....

How old is yours? I am guessing PendulousPlants.com Did you see their Weeping Mimosa, Albizia julibrissin 'Pendula'. Simply awesome :)

Yes it's from Pendulous Plants. It's 2 years old. Extremely strong branches. Impossible to train as they are like steel. I'm just going to have to let it do what it wants.

Lombard, IL(Zone 5b)

That is a good amount of growth. You might not get too many more years out of that before you'll have to move it to the farm. That is gonna be the freakiest arboretum in the country in a couple of decades.

Yeah I was surprised at it's growth. Really filled out and calipered up quickly. I'm documenting all my new trees as they grow each year. My 'Ross Moore' Ginkgo is winning at the moment.

New photo....filling out nicely....

"Moo-ha-ha" What is that? An evil cow? ;)

Lombard, IL(Zone 5b)

An evil plant, especially to a one Evilibrium.
