A few more lilies in my garden

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

The first are a couple of unkown aurelians. They are very similar except for the intensity of throat color.

This one has a much darker throat. I have cross pollinated them but haven't seen any indication of seed set.

My favorite oriental lily is the Summer's End strain from the Lily Garden. Not a sign of damage from the 2 heat waves we have had this summer.

I liked Summer's End so much I ordered a couple more from the regional sale last fall. They had run out and substituted a couple of Sarabande OTs. I'm not complaining!!

Here is Sweetheart OT from a garden show sale this spring...

And Arabesque...

And Shez. I have a small forest of Shez. from my first scaling attempt several years ago. This stalk is the original mother bulb.

Black Beauty has a way of fitting in just about anywhere. Here she is with Star Gazer.

Centerfold is blooming now, a bit late I would say. It's in a pot in the shade, waiting to get planted out in the fall.

Gold Eagle clone. I also have a specimen from the strain, which was a big mistake. One bulb put up 4 pencil thin stalks that all drooped in a u-turn back to the ground. Staking didn't help. I will be digging it out and tossing this fall. The clone looks alot like Neil's sunburst aurelian. A very nice lily..

These two pretty Asiatics came in buggycrazy's mix last year.

One more for now, OT Satisfaction.

OOPS! One more I can't pass up. This beautiful white oriental with upfacing blooms came in a cheap end of spring sprouted mix, if you know what I mean. I dug a couple of holes and just dumped them in and pointed them up, figuring I would use them for cutting. Most turned out to have poor form and very low bud counts after 2 years so I suspect they are simply hybridizers' toss-aways. Anyhoo, I have crossed this one with Casa Blanca.

Very nice. Most all my lilies are done for the year. Things are really winding down as August approaches.

I know what you mean, Diann. I'm going to have major lily withdrawal when the few orientals I have finish up. I have some late blooming speciosums but they are dying back from the recent heat before the buds get a chance to open. If I get any decent looking blooms on them I'll post their pics.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I know what you mean too ~ I had many, many aborted buds on the Asiatics from the heat wave in late Spring. Everything is done here too, except for a couple of very late planted bulbs.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Yeah, I have late planted bulbs that are maybe a foot tall blooming. :) That is about all that is left. Siberia is putting on a nice show, but is just about to call it a day. I guess I'm off to the hosta beds to relax with those guys now. :)

I really love Summer's End. It didn't stand out to me in the Lily Garden's Catalog, but your picture sure does. I'll have to look at adding that one. You must have hundreds of lilies, especially since you do all that seed starting. Do you have your own lily sales :0) ?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

One of the things I noticed about Summer's End is the very heavy substance of both the flowers and the foliage. That may be why it has held up so well, even in our early spring hailstorm. I crossed it today with another (nameless) outfacing oriental.

I've never counted all my lilies but I think there are at a few folk here who have me beat by a long shot! And yes I have sold lilies but only for nonprofit fundraising. Over the past several years I have probably brought in $700-$800 selling excess lilies and other garden excess to raise money for my garden club (used to fund expenses for our Soup Kitchen Garden and annual donations to Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity), a garage sale to benefit a colon cancer victim (who passed away that same evening but the family had many expenses), my employee association group (funds city league baseball and other stuff) and even my square dance group (heeee haawww-- gotta pay that caller or no more do sa do!). I guess the point I am trying to make here is that we all have garden excess and it can be put to good use for good purposes. I watch the newspaper for little blurbs requesting donations (that's how I found the cancer victim). OK I'll get off my soapbox here.

No ~ that's wonderful! We gardeners always enjoy sharing our gardens and you've found an especially useful way to do it. Good going!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

pardalinum- What a wonderful way to share your garden. I have just given away plants to co-workers , neighbors and family. Your idea is a very thoughtful, kind way of sharing your love of plants while helping out humankind. Kudos to you, Pard.

Good for you, pard! Mama always says "what goes around, comes around". Your good deeds will find you Blessed in other ways.

I still have Casa Blanca, Mona Lisa and Schezerade blooming in a shady corner of my garden.

It's late.. I need to go to bed... but here are a few late blooming dregs from the garden...

First up is L. speciosum rubrum. I'm still waiting for the album version. When I purchased these I thought they would all bloom together but it looks like the white version will be even later.

From buggycrazy, White Bud. I like the wide white edge, similar to Starfighter, but low bud count. One bud on each stem. I think I will rename it One White Bud...

Also from buggycrazy, Late Pink. I REALLY like this one.

Another view of Late Pink with different lighting. I noticed that buggycrazy has started listing a few more lilies at her yahoo store... like 10 San Souci for $25. I wish it bloomed later, with the rubrums. What a display that would be!

Very nice, pardalinum. Buggy Crazy does seem to have some unique selections. Late Pink is a neat one.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Your Late Pink is gorgeous!

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Didn't see it listed in her listing on web site.
Am I missing something?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Her offerings are constantly changing.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Moby, went out and measured the Little Eve. It stands 3' tall.
Just brought in 2 blossoms for my dining room table. Having friends stay overnight.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

How nice! Thanks for the info.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I sure hope buggy adds Late Pink to this year's offerings because I want more of them!

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I thought she got out of the lily business.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I think that has been a misunderstanding all along. What she told me was they were getting out of the CUT lily business (which was a big part of their lily business). They had been growing cut flower type lilies to sell at the Eugene Saturday market and also selling the bulbs which would be mostly the Asiatics. I will simply suggest that those interested keep an eye on their yahoo store and see what turns up as time goes on. I also plan to turn some of my lily seed production over to her if she is interested so these may show up on her site if anyone is interested (if I get enough seeds, things don't look good now due to the hot summer).

I see buggy has quite a few oriental lilies listed on the Blooming Auction site. Click on "Bulbs" then page through until you come to them...
