Hello
What is the name of this MG? I got the seed as yellow flowering Ipomoea from South America.
Dietmar
ID PLEASE!
Dietmar, Don't know the name but it's a beauty.

Yes, they are from South Africa. I love these little morning glories. Thankfully mine are coming back from dropped seed. I forgot to plant some on my own!!
Sweet, aren't they?

Hi Dietmar,
I'm wondering if the flower you posted has a dark maroon colored base at the bottom of the inner tube...all of the Ipomoea ochracea that I've seen so far has the dark maroon bottom to the tube...like the photos in thePlantFiles here

Ipomoea obscura has an Orange-Yellow form from Ethiopia as seen in the PlantFiles here
Ipomoea obscura

and there seems to be a smaller flowered form of Ipomoea obscura from Kenya...called in Japan by the name keniaki...keniaki can refer to a yellow colored flower and also allude to the geographic origins

What color is the inside bottom of the tube and what is the bloom size in relation to the full grown leaves(?)...

Ron
This is exactly the same plant as I had, and I was told from a plant/seed hunter person that this is a form of Ipomoea ochracea. Obscura is lighter, and has a very different "look" to it. I'm not sure how to describe it...but the flowers of obscura don't open as "flat" right away, and they have more pronunced segmental lines.
These are much rounder in shape, more evenly colored and darker. The tubes are very short.
The only difference between this plant and what is "typically" termed as Ipomoea ochracea is the darker tube inside.
Can you see what I'm "talking" about?

Hi Dietmar,
Thanks for the sideview closeup showing the details of the sepals, because the sepals are not either Ipomoea obscura nor Ipomoea ochracea, but apparently an entirely different species that has a flower that looks similar to I.obscura and I.ochracea...
I haven't yet seen the sepals of the similar looking yellow flowered species from Kenya called by the term keniaki in Japan,so you may have the keniaki type...

Hi Dietmar,
The seedpod pedicel is clearly fully reflexed most similar to the seedpod pedicels of Ipomoea obscura, but the amount of hair present on the sepals, entire inflorescence, stems and leaves would strongly indicate that the above pictured species is neither Ipomoea obscura nor Ipomoea ochracea...although it may be a somewhat closely related and as of yet unidentified Ipomoea species...
Thanks for the additional clarifying ID photos...

wow what a pretty morning glory....
Joseph, I probably sent you seeds for this one last year. There should be a photo of the flower on the seed package if I did sent one.
Mine are just starting up from re-seeding. In this drought, they haven't stood much of a chance to take off on their own. I love the way the leaves are small but very, very tightly twine to cover things like a chainlink fence.

DietMar do you have any seeds for that ? thanks Paul
Hello Paul,
Thank you for your interest. I have some unripe seedpods and a great demand for the seed at the moment. I get in touch with you again if the seeds are ripe.
Dietmar
