HELP ID: Ohio Ipomoea

Zanesville, OH(Zone 6a)

If you live in Ohio or Zones 5 or 6, perhaps you can help me. I do not have a computer or a digital camera, so I'm going to have to describe the vine in question. It is covering a hillside in an alley behide my bank. It is also sprouting in several other places in that neigborhood. It has a 2" to 3" white bloom that stays open all day. From the looks of it, it spreads and the seeds survive our winters. Can you name this ipomoea LOL? My husband stopped to check it out because the blooms remained open all day and asked me to try and find out what it is. Any suggestions would be appreciated :~)

Sounds like bindweed to me. It resembles morning glories, but it is white, like you said, and self seeds every year. Invasive, but pretty on a hillside.

I think bindweed is probably right. I took another look at it today and here's more info. The white bloom sometimes is tinged with pink. It has arrowhead-shaped leaves and a smooth stem.

that would be it! I have a ton on the berm behind my backyard.

Has it tried to travel into your yard? My husband wants to get some for our property. We don't need another invasive vine. We already have honeysuckle, grapevine and poison ivy that were allowed to run rampant before we bought the property a year ago. I know the chances of getting rid of those thugs is slim to none, but we're at least going to whack through a hillside full of it (and all twisted through invasive wild roses) this fall :~)

No, luckily, they are still about a yard away from the 8' fence. I'm thinking next year they'll be seeking out the fence, though.
