Root Stimulator

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Can you give this to cuttings that are rooting - or have started to root? If so how much?

Any help?

I have given new starts root stimulator fertilizer. I am no pro but I give it to all my plantings, I usually dig a bit of bone meal in all soil around new plantings as well. But I am wondering if you used a rooting hormone when you took the cutting? If so then root stimulator fertilizer would be overkill, I think. What are you rooting? And is it planted in soil yet etc?

I am not sure what root stimulator you are referring to. I have used mychorizzae on established plantings, trees, shrubs, perennials etc. with very good results. Now I use it at planting time for all the aforementioned. Mychorizzae isn't a fertilizer. If you are referring to stuff like Ortho Upstart and that type, I think it does work. I don't use it on trees however. I don't think any fertilizer is good for any tree the first year after transplant.

These are all types of rooted trees and shrubs - from Oleander to Mulberry. It is mychorizzae and no I do not use anything of rooting hormone.

A fall 2005 application of mychorizzae to the lawn, trees, shrubs and perennials here, (of which I have a lot crammed onto a small suburban lot) did quite a noticeable job. I am impressed with it. I have not fertilized a single plant this year. The plants, trees shrubs are very healthy with good growth, no legginess or other overstimulation symptoms that can come from fertilizer. The application was done professionally by a tree and lawn service. I believe I got my money's worth. The most noticable growth has occurred in the tree peonies. I have added mychorizzae (from Gardener's Supply) to the backfill for stuff I put into the ground this year. It isn't possible to tell yet if it was beneficial. We have had so much regular rain that you could probably root a broom handle. I reccommend it.
