The flowers are ginormous! I took this pic too late, and only some of the flower is still intact, but you get the general idea of its ginormosity. I also have 'Rogers', which is supposedly has even larger flowers, but the one flower it has this year is nowhere close to this one. These are too long actually, and flopped over with the first big wind. I hope that trait diminshes with increase in plant size/age.
Aesculus parviflora var. serotina
Kneevin, where is that plant? Did I see it while I was taking the nickel tour up there?
Guy S.
That was straight back from the deck, near the fence, nestled between 2 'White Tigress' Maples, underneath all those old oaks in that line of giganto-yews. I don't think we got but a passing glance of this plant from afar. I was showing you the 'Rogers' and pointed 'over yonder' at this other one that had huge flowers. By the way, they are also pleasantly fragrant.
How much sun does the plant get? My flowers are not nearly that big but I believe it's because they get more shade. It's a great plant.
Victor
I was mistaken--this is actually Aesculus parviflora var. serotina 'Rogers' which is known for these ginormous flowers.
