A few of my recent tropical pics...

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Here are a few of my plants I photographed recently

First is one I've wanted for years and finally tracked down. I just received it last week. It's Philodendron goeldii. Such a cool phile - it's a self header, like the common Philo. selloum

Here's a leaf shot of it...

An old favorite, Grewia occidentalis.

Here's a named plumeria, I just can't remember the name off the top of my head. Flowers are large and fragran, maybe 3" or so across.

The small flower of Bauhinia grandidieri. It's only about 1" or so. The foliage is tiny. This is an arching shrub.

One of my favorite philos, "Painted Lady". I love this one (please ignore the scorched leaf of my Philo. 'Jupiter').

Ficus 'Bengal Tiger'. This one is very bright! The leaves are getting large, too, probably at least 8" long. The seem to get bigger, too, though I think they've about topped out in size.

Last for now... Ficus 'Sunspray'... this one brightens up a shady area!!

I wasn't aware there were so many different Ficus out there, i'm so tired of seeing the Golden Ficus (?) used for hedging everywhere here in Florida. I love that philodendron , the form is like a spiral staircase , very cool.

Carter, very nice. How big does Bauhinia grandidieri get?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

carter, ficus sunspray, fantastic!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Carter, great phillo. I almost got one a year ago and it slipped outta my hands. Great plants. :-)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Great plants, Carter. I just bought the Bauhinia. Cross your fingers that I don't kill it. LOL

Thanks, all. April, I'm not sure how big the bauhinia will get. Some sources say 2' to 3', others say up to 10' or 12'. I think probably somewhere in between. It should get wider than tall, though, as it's a very wide arching, airy shrub, (seemingly) much like B. galpinii (only with leaves and flowers on a much smaller scale).

I love my new philo. It's so completely cool - the leaf is wild. I have a thing for philos. Here's a not so great pic of another new philo aquisition that I think is a pretty cool plant... P. cannifolium (I think recently renamed from P. martianum).

carter, beautiful plants! i love all your philos. i'm finding myself buying more and more these days. there are so many unusual ones...love them! thanks for the pics.

thanks, April.

Ada, granted we are in different climates, but my experience with these are they are pretty rugged - not so much in cold tolerance, but drought tolerance and mistreatment. I've got one that's been in a small pot for about three or 4 years now. It's never flowered (none of my bauhinias have ever flowered in a pot), but it's still alive and well after being severely neglected by me. (I know, "Bad Daddy!")

Vossner, Ficus is another of the genera I collect. I love the different varieties. Here's another... F. aspera 'parcellii', aka, Clown Fig. Supposedly, the variegation will get much more dramatic (to being the majority color of white with green spots and flecks) as it matures.

LOL Carter, mine should do well then. I hate to hear they won't flower in the pot. LOL
