What color are you going to use? Don't your plants get spider mites from being too close to the woods? Mine sure did last year.
Rhapsody at night
I don't know what color I'll pick, Jnette. This is the first year I've seen any spider mites.
Knock on wood I haven't seen any yet. But, I do have aphids. I treated with systemic a couple of days ago so guess I will know pretty soon if it worked on them. Normally a good strong spray with the hose works, but these are up on the kitchen deck, second floor up. Kinda hard to do that without making a mess.
Altho, Kin told me they weren't aphids. I can't remember what he called them. Will have to go back and look. See if the label sats anything about them. They are a sucking bug tho, so it should work.
Jnette, I hope you can get rid of whatever they are.
Me too. What are you treating your spider mites with?
Jnette, I use Kelthane, Di-syston or Avid.
I have never used Kelthane and Avid is too expensive. I did buy some Floramite from Brugie but have not tried it yet. And it was expensive.
Is the Kelthane a spray or something you put in the soil like the Di-syston? I like that because I truly hate to spray.
The trouble with Floramite, if you are going to spend so much money, is that it is not effective against broad mites. So I rather get a spray that does many more kinds since I get both the red sider and the broad mites. Though right now, no broad mites yet!! Avid is fast losing its effectiveness against mites here and in other places I read due to overuse.
Jeanette, I am afraid Di-syston will lose its effectness if that is all you use. I sure wish there was a couple more soil systemics to rotate.
I am going to spray Neem Oil all over later today to try to get more control, then do the insecticide later this week to catch those I did not get with Neem. I hope that is all it will take.
Kelthane is a spray, Jnette. I think it was $12 for the bottle that you mix in a sprayer.
Kell, this is the first time this year that I have used the Di-syston. Then today I sprayed the ones that I am sure have spider mites with the Neem oil.
But Kell, tell me, these are really strange mites. I have never had them do this before. They start at the bottom of the plant, not the new leaves in the center of the plant.
What do you think about that? Do you think that maybe they aren't mites? I thought I saw webs, but then wasn't sure if maybe it was those fine hairs the plants have.
