the blooms & leaves are HUGE, nothing like any of the already blooming ones seen at all the nurseries
So along with the theme of this thread, sorta, I don't regret buying this one!

Kell, are we talking tomorrow Thurs. or the following Thurs. Either is fine with me, I will just have to take a few minutes to do my hand exercises at some point. I have to do them 8 times a day. And I promise you, I won't hold you responsible if a hoya or two are lost. They really are pretty tough plants.

Sue, your begonia's are gorgeous. I have decided that next year I want to try a few of the tuberous begonia's. My mom grows them every year and they are beautiful, however she has alot of semi shade, where I have very little.

Kell, have you shopped at Western Garden's nursery in Livermore. They are small , but every once in a while I find something interesting. I bought a few of my begonia's there.

Tomorrow Patricia. I have been going every 2 weeks to Kaiser. They love me. LOL

I have been to Western, you know it used to be over by my work in Hayward. I actually tried to go there last month after the Antique street fair in Pleasanton. And I could not find it! I have no clue what I did wrong.

I just remembered I need to pick up a jacket at Nordstroms that they ordered for me. Want to meet at the mall for lunch then go to the nurseries?

Wow Sue what a great show for us. THANKS

That sounds fine Kell, I just have to make sure I am home by 4:30 because we are going to some friends for dinner. Just tell me where in the mall to meet you.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OK, want to meet at Grain D'or for lunch at the mall? It is the only place I know of there. Let me email you and get your cell number.

Great photos Sue! Love the tuberous! you've done a great job with it. What the name on your abutilon? Love that peach color against the splotchy foliage. I've seen it, just never bothered growing them up here since they dont winter over.

I'll continue to keep you and your dad in my prayers! When things settle down for you, we'll do a get together. Still plenty of garden time before winter sets in.

Did you gals get a break from the weather yesterday? It never got over 65 in GG park. Then when I got home last night it was only 88. WOW what a difference a bit of fog makes! 115 to 88 in 48 hours!

Most of my summer squash cratered. Just too hot, despite the water. On the up side, the tomatoes ripened very quickly and now we have a glut of them!!

I love abutilons too Lali. I am shocked you get that cold. They usually can take frost.

Yes it was COOL yesterday. THANKFULLY!

That's an Abutilon 'Thompsonii', a favorite. I bought that second one. Here's my first one. It got huge leaves after I sprayed it with Messenger, never looked better!

Here's another cute little tuberous I planted in a pot by the front door. I bought for the near black leaves. It has been blooming for 3 months now, looks so rich against the green.

yup, I can only stuff just so much into the greenhouse and begonias take priority. LOL. I might try a few outside. Next time I hit Empire nursery I'll try a few (one in the greenhouse, and one out for an experiment -if it makes it, I'll do some more)

Kell it gets downright chilly here. as in all the rain puddles are frozen ponds by morning kind of cold. Lavatera generally make it, so if they are as hardy as that, then we might be able to have them.

Hi,

I just found Dave's Garden a couple of days ago. I LOVE IT. I love Begonias but have had no luck with them. I live in South Florida. Any one out there have any tips for me? Where to plant them, watering, upkeep, etc? I saw a beautiful Rex Begonia but did not buy it, it was too beautiful for me to kill ;)

Wanda,

A great source of begonias and knowledge is PHOE (Palm Hammock Orchid Estates) in Miami. You should be able to put any begonia in the ground there and grow it as a perennial as long as you keep them out of the hot sun and standing water. You should have plenty of growers in your area to give you advice. Check with your local chapter of the ABS. Begoniacrazii has put the link of the local chapters on her post about the ABS.
