There is also a plant called Xerosicyos danguyi that has round leaves like that, but mine are a silver color. It looks very much like a hoya also. Maybe if it is grown in a greenhouse it would be more green like that.

I looked up Senecio
and they are succulents like string of beads and sting of bananas..I am pretty certain now that this is mislabeled..just need to try and find out who for certain :)
Lorry...I would be very careful about moving that plant out into the sun. It has probably been in a tropical greenhouse conditions up until now and will burn if you do. Try just bright shade at first. It looks very lush and "humidly/greenhouse" grown.
Try looking up images of that one I mentioned. See it that fits at all.

Lorry, This plant long, LONG time ago I bought it thinking it was serpens,little did I know ...it started a fight,I laugh about it now, but that was the year I really started collecting more hoya's and didn't I go and spell serpens as serpen? I learned the hard way not to spell hoya's wrong LOL,Well I still do to this day but try not too.it likes bright light and every joint will have a very tiny cute white flower,I never noticed a smell..When I lost my plant last year it was 5 feet long very heavy,on sum of the labels they call it string of nickles..

Lorry, I have this plant. I got it from Ted Green several years ago as a Dischidia but it didn't have a label on it. He decided to hack out big swathes of his Dischidias because they were taking over his hoya jungle, so I'm positive it's a Dischidia..which one? I don't know. He just sent me a big box and said they were all Dischidias. Would you mind if I sent these photos to Ted? I'm pretty sure he could tell you what species it is.

Marcy...I plan on keeping it under the covered area of the porch first which doesn't get direct sun :) it was in full sun at HD. I will also look up the plant you mentioned :)
I got this EA plant myself about 8 or 10 months ago. I sent the pics on to a Dr. Livshultz who has done a lot of research on Dischidias and she told me it is a Dischidia nummularia. When I commented it didn't look like the nummularia I'd seen pictures of, she said that nummularia is found in many different areas and is quite variable, and this was one of the clones. EA, of course, has it mis-labled when it calls it Senecio (which I knew right away as I have grown several Senecios...)
Anyway, it's been a little tricky for me. It has a super fine line between over and under watering. A tiny bit too dry and the vines dry out and die back. A tiny bit too wet, and the same thing happens! A nice plant when it's growing right, though.

I have this one, too, and also knew from day one it was no senecio.
I'd read your 'update', Denise, on GW, and was surprised in one way that it was nummularia, but on the other hand, the flowers are pretty much identical to those of nummularia.
Glad to hear you went ahead and sent that to her to get it's ID!
I've found that this one likes to be watered from the bottom, Lorry.....seems that whenever I watered from the top, I had dying leaves and vines.

Lorry;; I just got an e mail answer back from Ted Green on your plant called string of nickles. He says it is Dischidia formosana and he has huge plants of it, but forgot to include it in is catalog.

The description is on page 3, the photo is on page 4. I have this plant also. The nummularia has very small leaves and are extremely thick. In fact they are so thick, they look about the thickness of a pea (a green pea). The photo seems to look a little like the plant you have here but the two actual plants placed side by side, look totally different.
I also looked up Senecio. There were only a few species as examples but they appear to have a different growth pattern entirely.

I just got one from Lowes that was also labeled hoya bella (not). Great plants, but they really should check their labels better. Could cause many hurt feelings if someone tried to trade as such to someone who knows the difference, huh?

I have this Dishidia in question, and I also have a small plant of the nummularia....both are blooming at the moment...and the flowers, (to the naked eye....I didn't dissect either flower) are identical.
I took photos of them but don't have them uploaded to my computer yet....I'll try to get to it soon.
I wouldn't worry about the name, myself....but you're right, edenawaitsme......if one were to trade it.....the name becomes more important.

It was just a photo, but she was adament about it being nummularia. I had gotten the variegated one and the leaves were nothing alike, so when she said nummularia, I was surprised and wrote back and described the leaf differences in detail. She said that nummularia leaves vary quite a bit, depending on where it originated. As it turned out, Dr. Livshultz is right here in Omaha at the University of Nebraska campus, less than a mile from where I live. In April, my C&S club had it's meeting at the campus (where one of our members works in the GH) and I got to see Dr. Livshultz's Dischidia collection. She had another nummularia that was a little different from the two I have.
But I think I'll see if I can get Dr. Livshultz's opinion on the formosana. I want my tags to be right!
