Dai - a cupped flower with "crepe" leaves

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

I started this plant very late and it is now beginning to flower. It has the "crepe" gene which creates a cupped flower, where the lower part of the corolla tube doubles over itself creating the unique look. The leaves of these plants will also be wrinkled, much like crepe...

Here you can see the corolla tube doubled up, much like a finger of a rubber glove.

This is a flower from another plant.

Great photos of a great flower! I find it hard to get a good exposure of a white flower in bright sunlight with my camera, good job!

Nice revealing photo of the outside of the tube showing how the inner 'protrusion' is created...the longer the inner protrusion is,the more difficult it is for most insects to reach the nectar at the bottom of the flower, although the extra long tongue of a butterfly is still long enough...and undaunted bumblebees will slice through the base of the outside of the tube to obtain the nectar...

TTY,...
