A few flowers to show you...

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Here is Marion B. again. This tree is notorious for getting black tip in cool, damp weather, but the colors are bright, and the fragrance is sweet.

Wonderful pictures Clare thanks for sharing..
Your unknown pink/red looks like my wave rage when she gets heated by the sun..

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Robert. I have Suki's Wave Rage and can't wait to see it bloom. I think that this unknown might be Pinwheel Rainbow as it looks like my other Pinwheel Rainbow that bloomed last summer, but it is not blooming this summer so it is hard to tell. I like it -- whatever it is.

Hey, I've been meaning to post about your unknown. I saw another picture that I thought resembled yours. Emerson posted it and wrote:

"When I began bringing this cultivar back to the Houston Area in 1992, I called it Hot Pink, not because of the color but because it appears as such in ET's book on page 22.

It is a strong, rangy tree that is tough as a boot. It has to be to tolerate the conditions in the Fla Keys. You will find them from Homestead to Key West basking in the sun and paying no attention to all the storms.

Emerson"

Here is his picture. Does this look like one that you have?

Clare,
Your SCP is awesome!
Mine bloomed indoors and the inflo fell off lol!!
I have a 4 foot 3 tipped SCP,
I Hope she blooms this summer!!
Penang peach is still one Im looking to aquire in a trade f some sort.
My wave rage was a root stock last year and is now 3 foot wit 5 tips, c'mooon blooms!!
My Daeng Sayem has 2 huge inflos and Daeng Mang Mee is doin nuttin but growing.
Last count I had about 15 inflos pushing!! woot!! Many are new seedlings including
Pumpkin Pie a seedling from the aussie fruit salad tree
Her babies are named according to scent, this should be interesting.
I also won 'Kilauea' seeds from Dahu LOL!! ! has a nice big inflo pushing.
Its funny but after I won I was soo excited I posted on MPG and was shown that the pic was Jens LOL!!
Several of 'Noams' India varieties never before released are pushing inflos as well
I am sooo stoked!!
For now im enjoying a steady show from Tillie Hughes, Princess Victoria, Thai Rose and Paulas Slaughter Pink, what great bloomers they all are!!
Non stop show from all of them for over 45 days now WOW!!

Well clare it looks like my Lauderdale Lilac..
Talking to the owner of the 40+ foot tree that was more then 60+ years old and which my tree came from it would seem he has one of the oldest trees of this variety.I did not see this variety in the keys bigger then 20 feet and to tell you the truth i am not sure if it was the same without getting a closer look at them..

I really like to talk to Emerson and ask him about some of the local trees he registered..
As you know i do have some mix feelings with the fact that people can come down here on vacation and register our local trees and call them whatever they want.I am in talks as we speak with the PSA asking them exactly what are the rules on this matter and according to them stated in a email today they wrote:

"If you have a found plant, you are supposed to give information on where it came from, and obtain permission from the originator. The Cultivator can register the plant if the originator is unknown. As the person that registers the plant, he can choose to name it whatever he wants. You can also add and aka name to it, which could be Lauderdale Lilac, or whatever.Initials are not allowed. Also Lauderdale Lilac could not be used since the last word of the registered name cannot be another plant. For instance, Penang Peach is improper since it is not a peach tree, but is a plumeria tree. Lauderdale Lilac is not a Lilac plant. There are all sorts of rules that need to be followed when you register a plant. The Originator and/cultivator can choose whatever name suits. But they can attach an aka name which are allowed to be improper. "

This is sorta confusing to me because who is the orginator? Well the mother tree of my L.Lilac could claim he is because there is no trees of this variety older then his that we know of.The State of Florida or city of which it was found first could be the orginator.
My father planted the "South Florida Gold" or some say "Aztec Gold" in our old yard in the late 50's does this make him the orginator of that tree lol..
Anyways we don't want to get into that debate again hehe..

Clare thank you for the info like i said the pic looks alot like my LL what do you think?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Michael, your Wave Rage was rootstock last year? Do you mean it was grafted last year? Mine isn't doing anything. Congrats on all your inflo's, Man! Can't wait to see what your seedlings look like. That should be very exciting watching them open. You won an auction from Dahu? Are you feeling all right? LOL! I know that you know to be wary of him; right? I hope you get your seeds! Michael, SCP is awesome!

Robert, I haven't studied both pictures carefully, and it is hard to tell by comparing pictures, but it certainly looks like it could be the same cultivar at first glance. I agree that it is hard to know the originator, especially is the tree is planted in numerous places from Homestead to Key West as Emerson said. If the mother tree of your L. Lilac is the oldest of them all, then I would assume that the owner of that tree is the originator unless it is planted on public property. I guess the person who planted it there would be the originator. Yes, it can be confusing...;-)

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes so true Clare so true...
Paula and I were discussing if the Donna S. is a sibling of my LL but after she showed me her pics of the plant it is not related..

Mike where are the pics dude?
I like to see all your mad creations :)
I am so happy we finally got some sun yesterday and hopefully today..
30 days of non-stop rain stinks and some of my plumies are showing me
just how strong they are by trying to flower even thru all this rain..
..now i see a Tropical Storm who paths includes South Florida ;=/

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Robert, I just talked to Luc today in Homestead who mentioned that storm. He said that they don't say the "H" word anymore around there! Stay safe;-)

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I won Dahus auction in '04 when I first started doing MPG.
What I meant by root stock is...
The tree had been cut down for sale and all that was left was the root stock.
Root base and maybe 24 inches of trunk no branches.
It has exploded nicely.
What creations do you want to see Robert?
My grafts?
Ill take photos of them when the heat breaks
Heat index of 115 tomorrow, air quality extremely poor
Ill be the guy inside on the couch in the A/C LOL!!
I am NOT going out tomorrow!
Ill post more pics soon. ;^)

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

I know the feeling and i can't believe south florida has been the coolest part of most of the country.. can you say global warming!!
I think it's from all the rain everyday that has kept us in the low 90's and high 80's..
One thing tho the humidity is killing us.. both the temp and the humidity are in the 90's..

Yes Clare i wont say the |-| word because one more of those and i might have a fire sale..

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Humidity has been brutal here the last week.
We had dry heat and it was somewhat tolerable for the a week or 2 in the upper 90s.
Its going to 103 today, index of 115 yikes!!
Im not so sure 'bout 'global warming'
Ive seen several different 'cycles' of nature several times in my short life.
No doubt we have damaged the environment with polution but the atmosphere has the ability to heal itself also.
I have been hesitant to jump on the global warming bandwagon.
I suspect there is a bit of world class politics involved as I have done quite a bit of reading from scientists who say it isnt so.
Weve seen wicked hot summers and super cold winters before.
Who knows....
I do believbe we need to better manage our resources and be better stewards of Gods Planet, no doubt there.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Ah, yes, wise words from you, Michael!

Robert, you guys are bound to get one sooner or later so hand in there, buddy.

Marion B. again. I love this bright cheery flower!

I think this might be San Pedro du Lac. I got it from a collector in Texas, but C-Stars has a huge tree of it on their lot. It comes from Mexico as all their cultivars do, and it has 5+ inch flowers. The inflo's are very open and huge also. The fragrance is sweet but different than you might expect. I can't quite describe it; it's not really a floral sweet. It's more a smell one might find at the dentist if that makes sense.

Here is 'Playful,' a C-Star's Nursery cultivar. It too has 5+ inch flowers and a sweet fragrance.

I soo hope my SCP will bloom this year!!
Im sure my DSP will bloom
I have about 15 inflos in the waiting right now
Many are seedlings woot!!
Thanks for thinking of me. ;^)

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Great pics Clare all this rain has truely set alot of us back down here so its great to see other plumies blooming..
Thanks for the eye candy!

New Caney, TX

Clare your pictures are great. I had the spidery Yellow from Lyndi but I believe I lost it to rot. We head out to Hawaii next Wednesday. I hope to get a few new ones. :-) Last year I got a Yellow Singapore cutting. It still has not rooted well. I think I'll get another and graft it this time. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Tami

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Robert and Tami!

Robert, so sorry that you are getting hit with so much rain. Hopefully, it will let up soon so that you can enjoy some flowers.

Tami, I heard that someone else lost their Spidery Yellow to rot also. Maybe this one is more susceptible to rot than most. I forget now who that was. Ken maybe? I had a yellow Singapore cutting once -- Mele Pa Bowman -- that I bought from Florida Colors, and it wouldn't root for me. I think grafting is the way to go also. Thanks for your comments:-)

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Robert! Congrats on the appearance of the sun and the many inflo's! Yay!

I put this grouping together as I was rushing out the door yesterday so it is kind of haphazard, but you can at least see the different sizes of blooms, etc.

Here is the same grouping with labels attached.
