Well guess who brought her babies tonight for supper?
I was beginning to think this litter didn't make it..
Seems to be two of them but they all scrambled back into the woods so I didn't get a good look..
They make the cutest little noises..
Hope I can get pictures later..
I'll have to try popcorn and dog food..
Tonite they had a big stale bag of trail mix..
Uh Oh
Psssst! .. You guys do know, that they jes LUV sardines, 'ey? ... (hee)
And natur'ly, they'll try to wash 'em if there's some water nearby.
Caution: (if you haven't witnessed it already, that is) - the cooners tend to get a bit testy about getting disturbed, when they get 'use to' being presented with sardines! .. heehee ..

You're so lucky!!!!
Yes, go out and get sardines right away.
Or overripe canteloupe. Just put it out whole: you'll find the remains the next day, big melon totally empty with just a small hole they dug to access the goodies.
Bananas and watermelon and reeses peanut butter cups and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and bridge mix and cupcakes and oatmeal cream cookies and chicken ... lol! It is fun to watch them try to carry a boiled egg in the shell. They bat it around like a soccer ball to get it where they want it.
Their tummys can't handle sour citrusy type stuff. I put out some strawberry gummy bears type candy. They scarfed it up and then got sick and made coon pukies everywhere. Now they are more picky about their candy. Poor little critters.
Princessnonie ... lucky you. New babies! How wonderful :)

Ya know, I think this is one of the "new" mom's and not my original mom..
So far, whoever she is, won't let the babies anywhere near us..This leaves me wondering where Old-mom is and if all is well in the Racoon Kingdom as far as she goes..
Sigh
We've got a coon that comes by at night foraging for food. Apparently, she sometimes brings the babies. I hear the little ones on the roof in the night. After those nights, there's always damage outside in the yard. They dig in pots, knock things over and sometimes break stems on my plants. I've seen that sort of thing before with the little coons. But I just found out the other night that there is an armadillo living on the property! It's using a den in the ground that's been there for years. No wonder I've been noticing that some of the ground outside the fence looks sort of "churned up"!
If I don't feed the Racoons they do all sorts of things to plants, pots, etc.. Little scoundrels..
We have Armadillo's too, but I never see them..
Once I planted 100 Daffodil bulbs..The next day I went out and all 100 were dug up..Some neatly laying beside the holes, some in the woods, some in the street, etc..I found them all over the place for months..I never knew if the Armadillo's or the Racoon's did it..
Yeah, I've had bulbs dug up before. Last fall I planted a couple bulbs in pots, then had to go do something and never got to planting the rest that day. Good thing I didn't. The next morning the two bulbs were gone! So I planted the rest in pots and put a "cage" over them...made with some leftover welded-wire fencing. I planted the plants out in the garden early the next year and they haven't been bothered yet. I think they like those newly-planted bulbs the best!
The first 100 bulbs I planted with bone meal and when I found them all dug up I thought it was the bone meal the robber was after..But I have since planted without bone meal and what-ever-it-is still digs bulbs up..I kinda think it's an armadillo as the problem doesn't occur in my fenced area..
I like your cage idea..
Squirrels and chipmunks love bulbs, too, and have done in many many of mine. You can get a nontoxic taste repellent called Ropel, soak your bulbs in it for a minute before planting, and nothing will eat them. The stuff doesn't harm the wildlife, but must taste horrendous. Good for spraying on young plants, too; deters rabbits from munching.
Good Information..
Thanks..
I lost a Cedar Sage to a rabbit, I think..One day it was there, one day it was gone without a trace..
