daphne x hendersonii "Earnst Hausser"

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

This plant is growing beautifully in my crevice garden. On a good day, I'm able to bend over far enough to smell the flowers. Wonderful fragrance! Like Viburnum x juddii.

Another daphne, Daphne x montansiena (or something close to that), is growing well but has not flowered.

Scott--will those two live here in Zone 5? I have 'Silveredge', 'Carol Mackie', 'Somerset', and D. caucasica. One can never have too many Daphnes(and Viburnums, and Carpinus, and Aesculus, and Acers and......).

Also, when you were here, you gave me a little tree in a gallon container, and you guys thought it was Franklinia. Did you ever figure that out for sure? Guy was here and his first guess was Nyssa aquatica.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Kevin, I've forgotten all about that. I know we brought some Franklinia up, and it is possible I might have grabbed some Nyssa aquatica too. I don't know. I'm sorry for the mix up and for not knowing.

I just thought of something that might help. Of the batch of Nyssa aquatica that I might have taken from, they almost all died back to about 6 inches from the crown.

no dieback on this plant--I'll take a picture one of these days

Hi Kevin,

This is a note to self for me to look into when I have more property (for zone 5):

Dax

Daphnes to look into and see what they look like…giraldii, mezereum, cneorum, ‘Briggs Moonlight’, caucasicum and arbuscula; ‘Summer Ice’ (I had 'Carol Mackie' in the garden but it died with no answers - a typical death for this plant BTW).

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

I have grown D. caucasica...and lost it, but I'm pretty sure it died from a root-rot due to insufficient drainage. Great plant though. Neat foliage and awesome fragrance. I will try that one again. I believe D. caucasica is a one half parent to "Summer Ice."
