Moby, you've been home for AT LEAST 24 hours.
Ginny
NALS report
Come on Moby. Spill.
HOW did you know?? lol 26 hours to be exact! Tired and pilfered some lilies on the way home so I had to get those taken care of today.
NALS....well, talk about swimming with some big fish! Wil Ronald and Frans Officer were very, very nice people. Sandy Venton was there but awfully busy, and Ted Sobvoitch I visited with only in passing.
The Lily Nook folks were there ~ didn't run into the parents but visited with Nigel briefly. He's very sweet and a bit bashful it seemed. A cutie, too. :)
Sue (llilyfan) scored some test-tube babies!
Moby--I can't wait for a full report (with photos, I hope!)
Hope you had a great trip! t.
Your favourite is a real pretty one, Moby. Something different.
So you met him, eh. Hope you didn't get anything behind you pinched. You have the nerve to tell him what you thought of his writings? no, of course not, you're too nice.
I was prepared ~ then chickened out at our first meeting. Then I steeled my resolve and was ready to charge ahead until the sight of him repulsed me nearly to the point to nausea.
Giggle, chuckle, guffaw.
Oh well, you saw some lovely lilies.
Oh-- this is so nice to come home to after a hard day at work!! I love those Charlie Kroell goodies; black hearts and purple flecks!
Moby, is this the guy that said to soak lilies in a bleach solution and then to plant them on their side??
Diann
Yep, that's the one.
excuse me, but I was hiding under a rock when this came up--what is NALS?
Hey voss, how ya doin'? It's the North American Lily Society annual big get-together.
Lots of very big names in the lily world. Kinda of fun for lily novices (such as myself) to ride their shirttails for a while to listen and learn. Hundreds of lily stems for show and seminars and garden tours.
I was swimming waaay out of my depth. Big hybridizers were sitting at our lunch table and discussing the future of lilies. Lilies, lilies everywhere. Moby and I were up one night until 11 pm photoing the show entries.
Sue (lilyfan) , Moby and I went everywhere together--even to a mall so I could grab a toe ring to match Moby's.
Sandy had a fantastic reception for us first night. She cooked wopnderful food for 150 people and had a beautiful garden to boot! Wonder woman! She was EVERYWHERE at the convention hosting and solving problems.
Marie joined us for lectures and fun each day and Maxine came for the garden bus tour. We had a great time visiting gardens and chatting.
We ate too much, laughed too much and fell asleep with visions of lilies in our heads.
Ticker,
You DO - or should - soak all incoming bulbs (& iris I just must add) in a bleach solution for minimum 30 mins.
The big deal is that our fave writer said that it was to get rid of virus in the blub. NO WAY. If you have a virused lily, nothing will remove the virus. You have to remove and trash -NEVER COMPOST - the bulb and all lily parts of it. If it is a must have lily that you can't easily replace, then self it to get seeds from it and plant those. Any seeds will be virus free.
Ianda, depending on where I get the iris, daylily and or hosta I do dip them in a weak bleach soloution. I haven't ever done so for lilies, tho. It's probably a good idea and I may have to do that in the future. Thanks.
Diann
