morning glory tree

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

This is morning glory tree, also called morning glory bush, Ipomoea carnea. Mine usually gets about eight to ten feet tall but the drought has dwarfed everything. Right now it is about five feet tall.

It is beautiful! Did you grow it from seeds?

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yep, someone sent me seeds two or three years ago. It is perreniel and comes back each year.

Hi LIsa - I'm particularly glad that your photo includes an immature, but developing seedpod visible just to the left of the outside tube on the lower bloom...looks very similar to the seedpod of an Ipomoea tricolor visible here

I have several that have blooms for a couple years now and have never set seed. Any suggestion. Fortunately, they root super easy in water.

budgielover - The perennials have a much higher tendency to become self-infertile than the annuals...the remedy is to get seeds or another plant of the same species, but from stock that is not too closely related so they can act as pollinators for each other...

Nice looking seedpods as posted to the PlantFiles by htop here
