Coffee...and for July 16, 2006 This is where we came from: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/626531/

Pull up a chair, grab a cup, and some treats from the counter, and let's talk about plans for the upcoming week. Jammies and the Sunday paper are welcome here.

Please excuse me, while I scuttle around the kitchen today, have to mix up some Ice cream for a social this afternoon, the day is packed with activities, and I will be flying around and by you. Please rest assured that I will check in as often as I can, and comment when I can, but feel free to linger as long as you like.

Verona, ON

Hate to rain on your parade Defoe especially after you have done so well these last few days but I can't get here from your link on the July 15 thread. Come on you can do it - you've proven you can!!!!!!! We are all behind you!
Dianne

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

LOL, But I found you anyways....

Susan
=^..^=

Yeah ... me too ... but I took the liberty and put the link on yesterday's thread. Hope that's ok Defoe. :-)
Ok ... I'm *really* off to bed this time!

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Am I the first one up here?

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Okay then,

Good morning all!! hope you finally got some sleep.

m5-I guess we can *all* spend the savings from Katy's fix of the car window! Maybe this could be a tradition like the 2x4. Throw any savings into the cyber coffee can, and we all go shopping! LOL

defoecat is still busy for 10 of us-or ten of me, anyway.

cece-I still haven't gotten "unlazy" ...what's the trick? LOL

It's foggy and muggy here and the mosquitoes are thick. Don't want to spend much time outdoors before church since outdoors requires a liberal dose of bug spray. After church a friend and I are going on a local garden tour. Also want to go to a daylily garden in Lake George, and one in Saratoga, but dont know how the clock will hold up. Sometimes I .......dally........ a little.

BBL. blessings to all and be well!!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Sorry folks for the goof, I know I have been forgiven, as you are that kind of group.

Taking DM to her church this morning, it starts at 9:45, then home for lunch, another church at 2:30, one of us will pick up DGD, and then a shower for a friend who was burned out of her house, and then an ice cream social at 6:00. Can anybody say, I'll be meeting myself coming and going several times today.

I am taking butter pecan ice cream, and sure hope that it turns out okay. It is soooooo good. It has no sugar in it, but 2 cans of Eagle brand condensed milk, whipping cream and half and half, pecans toasted in butter, and maple flavoring. Just typing that I gained 5 pounds!!

Well, off to get the day started, will check in as I am able to, enjoy yourselves today with whatever you decide to do.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

A hazy humid murky good morning to all the coffee klatchers. Sure didn't cool off much last night. Woke around three and wondered if the A/C had quit but it was just one of those hormonal surprises.

I don't have any more donuts, and it's too early for ice cream but I've got a banana chocolate chip muffin in the freezer, whispering my name. I have to resist because we're going out for breakfast....so maybe I'll have it tomorrow. I had a serious chocolate jones yesterday but I fixed it with three brownies I had frozen sometime in the distant past. Wish Sarv would get back, I don't know how long I can keep this up.

DH got up after I did, and came out with Olivia in his arms. I said "Don't let her fool you, she already had breakfast" and he said I must have given her tornado juice. She was giving him a good working over jumping on him. When 'livie says get up, you better do it or else! Sammi is positively sedate compared to her.

I'm so glad Maria is having a nice visit with Ernie. I'd like some of that fresh salmon too. By the time saltwater fish/seafood gets to the midwest, it's been frozen or en route too long. And my sister's DH isn't too generous with the fish he catches at the lake.

Ann, I hope your prescription helps with your cold. Summer colds are the worst. And you've got a full plate with your schedule.

Bonnie, I meet a friend at our Cracker Barrel for breakfast about twice a year. She's as far north as I am south, and not an early riser so we usually have breakfast for lunch. They have a huge assortment of t-shirts, cards, signs, giftware etc. I spend as much time browsing as I do eating. They don't have grits up here though, just home fries. I have to make my own at home. (No problem, Susan Elaine sent me a lifetime supply! )

Off to the shower. Might have to stop and pick up some more of those fifty cent geraniums......and who knows what else. After all, look what we saved on the window repair!!! A few weeks back I was trying to get my steering wheel unlocked after parking for a bit at a shop, and it wouldn't move. You know how you rock it back and forth, after you start the car? Well it wouldn't unlock. Tried and tried and tried....was almost ready to call AAA, but thought I'd try the dealer first. He said to do just what I had been doing, and I told him I had done that. He said keep doing it, and finally it worked....what a relief. Didn't save any money on that one though, so I'll just have to spend more of Katie's .....

Later

Well I am alive I think, Have had a migraine for the last couple of days and am starting to feel human again well sorta.
Frist I have read all postings and retained very little, that is nothing new, just I hope those who need rain are getting it and weeds are not taking over your corner of the world as they are mine. We won't talk about the gophers/moles here....UGH!! And every one on vacation is having a great time.
I have to water everything here and over on the property as it's not going to get below 105 for the next 10 days and start dead heading flowers and weeding and try to slay the laundry monster before work again and can several quarts of tomatoes, so I will be in and out today. So have a great day and try to stay cool.
Oh Zucchinni Bread on the counter hot from the oven.....Lauri

Edited to say...........Happy Birthday Ann............

Good moning, every one and a very happy birthday Ann wishing you a good one !
I am now used ro the three hour difference waking up my usual time. The temp. right now is 48' almost too cold, lol, but I love it.
I am having lots of wonderful salads right out of the garden, tastes heavenly since so far just had them from the market's produce sections,
I am having problems getting usd to this computer so I better wave to every before it goes poof into cyber space

Maria

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone and thanks for the birthday wishes. No big plans, but we'll go out for dinner later with DH, DD, SIL and grandtwins. I think I'll make myself a chocolate cake. Haven't had a birthday cake in a few years. LOL

It will be another hot one today and for the next few days. Had a good thunder storm yesterday and now my cocoa mulch has white patches of mold. That's typical. I just hope we get some hot and dry to get rid of it. Once it forms a crust, it works really well.

Cold is making progress, I think. Another sore throat had developed by last night, but I think it was from the coughing the night before. Anyway it was gone this morning. Very strange being on antibiotics that I take just once each day. I think I'll make the first two days a bit short so that I get round to taking them at breakfast by tomorrow. Easier to remember.

Looking back to yesterday's thread - Sheila, I would have wept if that had been done to my gardens. I think I'll have a perenniel sale if (when) we move from here - hopefully not for a decade or more. I've got too much invested in my hostas.

Dorothy - I heard on the radio that we have local fresh corn available. Haven't seen it yet and it's way early, but things seem to have been maturing early this year.

cece - your garden sound really pretty. Flowers and lots of them. I also have Echinacea blooming although a newer variety which I just bought is not blooming yet.I also have Shasta Daisies, Veronica, daylillies, regular lilies, some early Cleome. Have Lavatera but it's not yet large enough to bloom.

Darius - make good use of those pickling cucumbers. I've stopped growing my own but every few years I get a large basket at the market and make dills. I don't do the crock thing though. And I put a piece of cayenne pepper in each jar too. Should probably do some this year if I can still get cukes when we get back from Japan in early September.

Katy - so glad the cheap repair worked on the window and I hope it keeps on working.

Lauri - sorry about the migraine. Hope it is really gone.

Maria - you did just fine on Ernie's computer, but I know what you mean about having to get used to it.

Well I've played hookey from church. Think I'll go bake that cake and work in the garden a bit. Have a new rose which is more bushy than I though and needs support.Gotta do something about it. Might also work on the sweatband. If it works I'll post instructions.

And I've set myself a project to really sort out XHTML and CSS in terms of web page design. I took a course exactly a year ago and ended up walking out of the second day about 2 hours before the end because I wasn't learning anything that met my expectations. Have let it sit for a year now, but finally went to a neighbour who teaches this stuff. She supplied me with several manuals and one of them is excellent. The web design standards have changed and it's time that I updated my pages to conform once I figure out what I'm doing. Should keep me busy for awhile. LOL

Have a good day eeryone.

Ann

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

This is the deep voiced eweed lol yes it is 48 at the moment but in a few short hours it will be sweltering at leas 75 ugg but I do have red tomatoes and ripe sweet bannana waw peppers actually Banna Hybrid surpreme much bigger then the plain sweet bannana.

Maria loves fish and we intend on having it lots this is fish country and much better than thosee lake fish. Shame Crab season will not open while Maria is here . We went out the first night she was here and Linda and Maria had Halibut and I had four yes four count em Lobsters and they were good sized ones at the casino at one point Linda went on a little tear and was 400 up but finished only a little up I finaley broke down and tried my hand at the slots and ended up losing 10 lol that is the intent those games are designed to take your money lol I dont know where Maria ended up but think she left a little there after winning big oh well it was fun.

Sarv are you getting any boat time in?

Meez what a shame you don't have a reputable place to buy fish because I spent years in the fish business in Alaska and I know frozen fish products do not have to be of a poor quality. prime fish processed and distributed correctly should be almost as good as fresh.

Dianne get msn please Aim will just not work right for me.

Ok off to till have a good day all I will do the last planting today for the year except for the late winter hardy stuff I will seed today for trans plant I an goung to try for Dec broccli and Feb Cabbage and Cauliflower I did it once before depends on the winter. Ernie

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Okay, back from church, have fresh veggies for lunch, mixed up the ice cream to make later, kitchen cleaned, and I really need a nap.'

Know that I have read all, and will be back later to comment. Good afternoon to all!

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

I have been up for a few hours and reading your posts but have not commented yet.

Not sure exactly how much I saved on the window, but I was expecting it would cost a lot. (my dad is sort of a mr fixit type and he said probably would cost at least $100-$150 if the motor in a power window would have to be replaced especially since I would go to the dealership for repair and they usually charge a lot for labor) So I figured at least $100 got thrown into that 'cyber coffee can' as you guys put it. LOL

I managed to take care of a little of that last night at Wallyworld. Had to get some potting soil and fertilizer and a new pretty pot that I wanted to plant some moss rose in I got off ebay.

I have played hookie from church today as well but I think I will make it to the Sunday night service. went outside to see what all the flower beds and weeds looked like this morning everything looks great thanks to that rain yesterday evening I wont have to water this morning. The moss rose that I just recieved yesterday from an ebay purchase and potted last night already has blooms on it this morning!!! I couldnt believe it. I also got some chocolate mint at the same time from this seller and both the moss rose and mint were in great condition when they arrived regular mail. She had packed the roots in water crystals and I guess thats what kept them looking so good.

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

Sorry I forgot to say Happy Birthday Ann. Hope you have a blessed one. Go get your self something nice and charge it to the DG morning coffee can. LOL

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi again everyone....on the borrowed computer again - this is getting habit forming.... Yes, Ernie -I did get one boat ride last night at sunset= it was beautiful and very warm!! But haven't been fishing. Today it is supposed to be in the high 90's, but it is very windy- so I suspect no fishing today!

Happy Birthday Ann!! And how old?? DH birthday is next Sat. He is already talking about it...it seems he enjoys them more each year.. He likes the attention!!

Didn't have breakfast until real late- fried potatoes, bacon and eggs! Also had ice cream two times yesterday!! Oh life is grand!!

Had a jet ski yesterday for 3 hrs. DH and neighbor the same age went on it and they took off like a bat outta h*^^ - then we couldnt find them on the lake - they had seaweed get in the pipes- they were gone forever!! I was ready to send out the rescue squad!! Had me nervous for a bit...but they returned!!

I closed up my greenhouse when I left and am now worried- it has been in the 90's at home - it will probably explode or catch on fire. I was afraid if I left it open that it would blow away - always something...

Well, gotta go to wallyworld...see ya later!!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Help meee I'm meltinggggggggg....stopped at the garden center on the way home from breakfast, and they had purple cone flowers about two feet high for $1.88, well who could pass that up? Got four and some more cheap geraniums. Then I had to plant them. Whewww...not going out there again until I get visitors, (if I do) it's just broiling out there. Been inside in the cool air for half an hour and I'm still sweating.

Happy Birthday Ann, I hope you have a lovely day and it's not a roaster like it is here. Out for dinner sounds like the perfect plan. I have potatoes on for salad, but haven't thought beyond that.

Bonnie, read the condensed milk ingredients...Sugar! That's why the recipe doesn't call for any!! Do you have an ice cream maker? I have one in the back of one of the can't-quite-reach kitchen cupboards, and I have those nice raspberries from my neighbor...I'd have to freeze the container for a bit starting about an hour ago!

Ernie, we have one excellent fish market here but it somehow slips my mind when I'm out shopping. And they give a 10 percent discount to seniors on Wednesday, thanks for the reminder, I'll have to stop there next week. Four lobsters??!! You are my hero! Way to go!!
Maria is always lucky gambling, you should have given her your $10 to play with.

Laurie, glad to hear the migraine has gone away. That's a miserable feeling, I've never had one, but DH has cluster headaches (under control now with Depacote and some other Rx) but watching him suffer with them was enough for me. They are similar to migraines but rebound, sometimes for days. I literally dragged him to a neurologist and they finally found a combination of drugs that work.

Who have I missed? Just about everybody else, I think. So, I'll just settle for a ~~~ to Darius, Kooger, Elaine, Hope, etc. and go take a nap!!

Sheila

Well, just got back from the vet. Poor little Snowcone is sick. His eyes are jerking again, he had this in January and here it is again. Vet said it is an inner ear infection. Gave him a shot and pills to be given twice a day. Fun times for him and us for 10 days.

It is so doggone hot, I just gasp when I go out. Went out for about two minutes awhile ago and came back in dripping wet. ewwwww

Snowcone has to stay in the house for awhile until he is better. Right now he doesn't mind, but give him a few days and he'll be fightin' to get back under his hostas.

Here is his picture this morning by the water fountain. He was very thirsty, I don't think he has gotten up for awhile to drink. That really scared me, but he doesn't seem to be so thirsty now.

meant to tell you if you are, interested, I had my first cherry pie ever Linda made, it was jummy, she makes it with sour cherries that are only for pies, but I like to eat them right off the tree. There are also the dark and light cherries , all of them taste great. Right now I am munching away on their raspberris Linda picked for me, at least a quart of it

Hello everyone, I'm back from my ride, have a lot of reading to do here as usual to catch up with all of your doings since Friday.

9kitty, sorry to hear that Snowcone is sick. I hope he feels better soon. He is such a pretty cat.

So far that is all I have read, the picture caught my eye.

Bye for now, I have watering to do.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Well 17 quarts of tomatoes are history and will have to pick them and start all over again tonite..LOL I can't stand canned tomatoes but DH loves them so I can. Next is jalapenos as they are starting to go to town...
Sheila great buys, wanna come plant a climbing rose for me?? I still have it in the pot...
9kitty, sorry to hear your kitty is sick, hope he gets well soon.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, back from afternoon church. DSIL bought us an ice cream freezer at a yard sale about 2 weeks ago, and silly me, didn't plug it up to see if it worked, so got everything together and plugged it in nothing. So DH had to rush to another neighbor's to borrow one. It is now sitting in the sink, and is turning, so I think that is a good sign.

Told them at church this afternoon, that we should have had pool church, everybody in the pool, and we could have had a baptising too.

Seeml like the heat is universal, except for at Ernie's place. Okay, everybody pack your bags, we are heading to Ernies!!

|My gosh Sarv, do you have anything in the greenhouse, if so, it is toast for sure. I would have been frantic is someone was gone too long on a jet ski. Glad you got your boat ride.

I have been remiss, in not wishing Viann, a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Do have a good dinner, and pay for it with the funds in the cyber coffee can.

To everybody else, I'm~~~ for now, due at church at 5:00 for the shower, then the ice cream social, then to get DGD. I believe I will sleep good tonight.

I will be back to comment later.

Welcome Home Mary.

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi All. Happy Birthday Ann!!!!!! Computer took a vacation this morning and had to wait. I HATE to wait. While waiting I went to play trivia for a couple hours and then came home to water, water, and water. Thats just my back yard. Waiting til cooler to do front yard. I am so hot. I hate humidity! Why can't we have vegs heat? DH took me out there 3 yrs ago and said "I dont' want to hear one complaint of hot" He heard complaints though. I spenet most of my time out on the sidewalk. They keep those casinos way too COLD for my way of thinking. I froze in the hotel room, I even went and bought a sweatshirt jacket. It was cold. There's no humidity in Vegas I could handle that. And the growing seanon would be out of this world, hey????

Well talked myself out of the martagons. I just don't need more plants. (Yes the heat has me delirious.) Not this year anyway, although I have begun to pester DH about a pefect bed for next spring that HAS to be a pain to mow, between the house and the front walk. This one I can blame on olderDS. He put the idea in my head, I just carried it out further.
To Everyone I've missed I ahve a BIG wi HI for you. I've got to go find something to eat. Its been what 5 hours since I've eaten and I/m melting away to nothing now. Yeah right LOL
Will check back in a bit okay? Bye

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

Poor little snowcone. Hope he feels better soon. Our cat just had two kittens about 5 weeks ago (1boy, 1girl) and they are just now getting big and spunky enough to run around and play a little. They are so cute but I think we will have to get rid of at least one of them cause we already have too many animals.

You guys are making me jealous talking about your pools. I wish I had one out back to jump into after watering and digging weeds, etc.

DSIL came over earlier and brought her two kids , ages 23 months and 7 months. She really has her hands full with those two so close in age and I dont think her husband helps her out much. She comes over sometimes I think just to get some help since we all play with the babies and hold them, etc. I have offered to babysit from time to time but she has never taken me up on it. Anyway we were glad to see them come and stay a while and then we were glad to see them go.LOL!

Evening everyone
Whew, don't know if I can catch up with all y'all or not but did want to stop by and say happy birthday to Ann. Sure hope you have a wonderful supper out. Oh and what a marvelous idea of a cyber coffee can! Got a free latte the other day cause my card had been punched 10 times, so I'm throwing in the price of a coffee to help the cause. ;)

Mary, good to see you back. Can't wait to hear all about your trip.

Hi Ernie ... Mmmm I think the cherry pie sounds wonderful. Lucky Maria! She sure is getting treated like a queen. LOL ~~~ to all of you.

Defoe, so sorry to hear about the ice cream churn ... but glad your neighbor had one you could borrow. That recipe sure does sound gooood!

Wow sarv, I'd sure have been on pins and needles if that were me. Glad no one got hurt and everyone is having a good time. Sure hope all your plants are ok. Honestly though ... even if you were at home with this weather like it is it's a constant battle. Just have yourself a wonderful time.

Susan ... so sorry to hear about Snowcone. Hope he gets better with the meds.

Y'all guess what? We finally got some rain! It actually rained pretty heavy ... but didn't last. I'm not going to complain, though. Will take whatever I can get. :-)

Well, am ~~~ frantically at everyone else for now. Will try to come back later but need to get in the kitchen for now.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Surprise dinner guests coming...! DGS's inlaws are in town and they don't have A/C except in the bedroom, so I took pity on them. Threw together another cold salad, artichoke hearts, olives, mozzarella, pasta, tomatos, and vidalia onion dressing. Put a lava cake dessert in the oven and I'm ready to roll. DGS will pick up chicken on the way over here.

Poor Snowcone, if it anything like dosing my pets, you are in for a merry chase!!!

Cece, wait until Carat gets back to Vegas from her trip to their new home, she'll tell you all about the growing season out west. They'll be moving in January to either N.C or S.C, can't remember which. Brain got cooked outside today.

Lauri, I'll be glad to plant that rose....next February when we are up to our ankles in slush and ice. LOL

Well, every thing is ready, all they have to do now is show up.

Sheila

Cece, I can tell you from experience about the growing season out west. It is pretty short unless you are talking southwest because of the snow and cold temps. Also it is DRY deluxe out there. We lived in Colorado for a while and moved back to 'bama in 2004. We have been really happy in this house but will have to move to Tuscaloosa next year for DH to finish his degree. I hate to move, its like starting all over every time.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

ANN!! Happy Birthday!! I hope you have had a great day and stay cool!! i went on a garden tour today in the 96 degree heat, and boy do I love shade gardens now! I really got interested in them LOLOL. Anyway, saw lots of beautiful hosta combinations and heuchera and a bunch of stuff I'l have to look up. That will be my next venture, really working on good shade combinations.

Laurie- i cannot believe anyone could can in the 100 plus degree heat. i would think you would die. Or do you just boil the jars on the sidewalk?

defoecat - LOL at pool church! Wouldn't that be great? BUt we wouldn't have to wear bathing suits in public would we? :-) Our church is air conditioned, and boy i could've stayed all day today.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Oops hit send too soon. i'm delirious from the heat too....
Mary-how hot was it for your ride? I wish i could take the horses swimming today but i'd need some helpers. I can't lead three into the water!

9kitty-sorry to hear about Snowcone. Isn't it too hot for him outside anyway? My pets all stay in the basement on the cool floor in the heat of the day.

eweed-sounds like heaven out there....wish we had all taken darius' bus and were enjoying the cool air and all the fresh fish....Maria sure planned that trip wisely!!

Hi Susan Elaine, McCool, darius, Oz, sarv (sounds like a great day to be on the lake),katy, cece, Dianne, anyone else i've missed. CRS gets so much worse with heat.

I01 Hope your shoulder's better. And I hope Twyla is on the mend too.

Also that you're all keeping your cools!!!

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

Got one DS in bed early tonight and oldest DS is watching a PBS special on Killer Whales (he's the intellectual type).

Just going out to see if anything needs doing outdoors. I've been holed up in the house all day to escape the heat. Will catch up with you guys later.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi folks,

Well it was hot in Ottawa too today. We met DD and family at a Japanes restaurant - one we hadn't tried before and we had a nice meal. Always interesting, however, figuring out what the grandtwins will eat. A little of this and a little of that. Somehow they seem to eat enough. I was really feelling pretty crappy much of the afternoon and I think it's the medication (one which is hard on the stomach). Feel better after dinner though. We took some of the cake I made along and let them take it home. I've got some left if any of you want undecorated chorcolate birthday cake.

Hey I like the idea of a cyber coffee can for celebrations.

Susan - good luck with getting the medication into Snowcone. I had one cat which I was able to get meds into w/o much problem and another that it was nearly impossible.

Bonnie - hope the ice cream worked well in the end. somewhere in my crawl space I've got an old hand-crank ice cream maker. Should probably get it out as the grand kids get older. But I swear I could put on 10 pounds just reading your recipe. You might not add sugar separately, but theres gobs of it in the condensed milk.

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. ~~~ to those I've not addressed personally. It's getting dark and I have some things on the line which I'd better rescur before nightfall.

Ann

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

UNCLE!!! I give up!! I have had enough canning till next weekend and then it's jalapenos. Going to freeze some tomatoes whole and take some down to the Rescue Mission in town. Have to remember that I have jerky in the dehydrator on the front porch. In this heat it drys real fast. Well I am hot and sticky and smell like tomatoes and onions so I think I'll toss me into the tub and then bed as 2:30 a.m. comes early.
~~~~to everyone and have a great week, I'll try to keep up and comment if I can see straight...100 plus temps all week, 11 hour days...Look out traffic I will be grumpy!!!...Hugs to all Lauri
Ice cream frist then tub time.....:-)
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Evening everybody, there is no way that I can go back and comment to everybody. Today has been a marathon of going, going and going some more. 3 churches, and then a 30 mile drive one way to pick up DGD. Although I hate to give up helping the 2 churches, I just can't do this in this heat.
The ice cream social was good. We had 3 freezers of ice cream, vanilla, with lots of toppings to add, chocolate and the butter pecan that I made. Hate to say it, but if leftovers are any indication of what was good, mine was all eaten. The vanilla and chocolate you could tell had some taken, but not much. Someone brought some store bought, and some of it was eaten over the other homemade.
Viann glad you had a good dinner out. Wish I was out Ernies way, where the temps were cooler. My weather man is saying hotter the rest of the week.
Will be back later to start the daily, hopefully without an oops!
Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)
Heya! I'm waving at everybody and trying to catch up.... :-)
I wanted to ask a favor... I posted a thread in the prayer forum today for a new DGer who is having open heart surgery on Tuesday, and it seems like it's been a slow day over in that forum... anyone who is so inclined, I'd appreciate it if you'd wander over and add your support. Thanks!!
Along with a couple of "early" varieties that we've been enjoying a few fruits from the last couple of weeks, I put out an early 'Pennsylvania Pink' tomato... and today we picked the first sun-ripened fruit -- a big double one, too! I made a sandwich with sunwarmed tomato and cool, crisp cucumber... bit into it and nearly swooned! Delicious! DH grilled some great kebabs for dinner, but I think we needed to have at least 4 extra people over to eat it up. :-) I do love leftovers, though!
Hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday evening!
*HUGS*
Hi everyone
Well, have caught up on a few threads and wanted to come over and ~~~ to everyone before I hit the hay.
Twyla ... so glad to see you ... so good to know you're not hurting as bad. Take good care of yourself ya hear? ;)
Defoe, oh I hope I didn't eat tooo much of that ice cream. I tried not to be too much of a pig. LOL
Ann, that cake went *real* good with the ice cream I swiped from Defoe! ;) So sorry you've been under the weather today and hope you feel better in the a.m.
dmc your garden tour sounded like so much fun! It's been real hot here today also, but we finally did get some rain. I think it might have cooled it off a bit since it was after dark.
McCool, sure hope your DH is doing better tonight and isn't trying to overdo.
Well, I'm getting foggy so think I'll call it a night.
Evening folks,
Before I forget (since I'm so good at it) Happy Birthday, Ann! Sounds like you had a nice dinner at the restaurant. I hope that you can shake that cold real soon though.
Laurie, glad you got rid of the migraine. I've never had to deal with that, but have a sister in law who gets them badly enough and frequently enough that she has to inject herself. Your current job sounds awful! Is there any way for you to get out of the heat on breaks?
Bonnie, sounds like you've been a positive whirlwind today. Don't know how you do it --- especially in the kind of weather we all seem to be having.
M5, smart move postponing the garden tour. Hope you enjoyed your company this evening. Your impromptu meal sounded great.
9kitty, I hope that Snowcone improves rapidly --- and good luck to you in getting the meds into him! We recently had the great joy of giving all of the cats worm medicine because the new kitten, D.K. had probably given them all worms. Tangerine managed to spit nearly all of hers back into my DH's face. Nobody was real happy that day.
Hi Mary, hope the ride went well for your team.
Dmcd, at 96 degrees I'm very sure that the shade gardens suddenly became oddly attractive! I think I'd prefer an air conditioner though --- shade just can't cut it in that kind of heat.
I01, glad to hear that you finally got some decent rain. How's your shoulder doing? You seem to be typing without any problem today. (Does that mean that you've learned your way around the keyboard with the splint or that you "lost" it somewhere while you were on the computer?) Actually I was kind of surprised that you were told to wear it during the day. Those are generally just used at night except in the worst cases.
I'm told that the weather is supposed to be even worse here tomorrow -- higher temperatures, would you believe? I managed to pull a few weeds, water a couple of potted plants, pull up a load of lemon balm, dig some huge fungi out of the veggie garden, and spray a lot of things with neem oil mixture. Still haven't mulched most of the garden. It seems to be always either raining or broiling hot when I have the time to get out there to do it. Oh yeah, I don't think that I mentioned before that I bought myself one of those self-pumping spray units. It's great! I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands and that little spray unit that you have to keep pumping by hand and carrying around was really getting to me.
Managed to get stung by a wasp today and looked in my favorite herbal info book. It recommended witch hazel, lemon, cider vinegar, or plantains. I cut a lemon and held it on the spot for a few minutes. It worked like a charm -- redness and swelling disappeared almost immediately, so I thought I'd mention it in case any of you should get stung.
sarv, glad to hear that you're enjoying the camping and that you haven't had to go into withdrawals from being cut off from DG!
Well, I have to get into the shower and try to get rid of some of this sweat and grime. There's a mixed berry crumble on the counter, but watch out, it's still pretty hot!
~~~~~~~~ to katy, cece, Maria, and Ernie. Have a good night all.

Those darn dogs, catching my eye, distracting me....I LOVE them....... Thanks bunches for the onions too. I owe you some weeding so I can continue to wear my "Will Weed For Food" sign:)
