Thanks Donna. I got several plants from the packet I planted. And yet the one I overwintered is doing poorly. Go figure.

Last year the winter of 05 I started some yellow hardy hibiscus and gave so many away. I did keep two plants and had them in the ground and they just bloomed like crazy all last summer. But neither one of them came back this year. I didn't mulch them and since it was there first year maybe I should have. But we had a pretty mild winter. My flowers were small are yours. Is yours hardy or tropical? Yellow is my favorite color next to purple. Your bloom is gorgeous. The leaves look so very healthy, you are doing a great job with it.

Don, I have tons of seeds of your yellow hibiscus if you want more or anyone else on this thread dmail me and I'll send for SASE.

Donna, hibiscus really are easy to grow from seed. Here is how I do it. I use a window box and fill it with ProMix BX (peat based potting mix .. absolutely no dirt/soil) then sow the seeds just underneath the potting mix. When they put on their first set of true leaves I transplant them into its own little pot. When I see roots coming out the bottom it gets a bigger pot or put in the ground. Ever since I quit using dirt for potting up plants and starting seeds I have had much better results.

The picture below is of seeds I got in a trade last week. They were coming up 4 days after I planted them. I transplanted them into their little pots today.

I think starting from seed is much easier and faster then trying to root cuttings. I have done cuttings and it seems like it takes them forever. I do them in water, never had any luck with using the rooting hormone and placing in dirt. Always rotted.

X are your seeds the hardy or tropical?

My yellow like this was supposed to be hardy, but actually they just reseed all over the place.. It is an okra hibiscus...And believe me, they do reseed like mad..

I wonder why mine didn't reseed? I know it had plenty of seed pods on it last year.
