Seeds?

Kerhonkson, NY(Zone 5a)

There is a turk's cap (I think) lily in a garden near work ... an orange spotted one ... and there are what look like large seeds on top of every leaf next to the stem -- they don't even seem to be attached ... are these lily seeds and can I grow lillies from them????

yes! You can just plant them up and you'll get more lilies.

Those black thingys are called bulbils. Sounds like you have found Lancefolium. Certainly plant all the little black bulbils but make sure that you do not ever put them near your other lilies. This particular lily is a virus carrier. I love them and have lots for picking, but not anywhere near my lilies. In fact, they are in a garden down the street where thereare no other lilies. You might want to wait a few weeks before you pick them off. They will grow larger, thelongeryu wait before picking them off and sometimes they even grow a leaf or two.
