drdron, is your sat still down? You would know the answer to this question, but there may be someone else who knows...anybody know of any extensive public collections of salvia south of Santa Barbara? I know of Rancho Santa Ana and the Huntington, maybe any others? I've always had salvias, but now I'm feeling drawn to them in a big way. Want to go check out some that I haven't grown.....soon. I think I feel a new life path coming on! Just what gardeners need....a new obsession. I won't tell my dh just yet.*giggle*

salvias
We love this one.

Did you get everything planted yet? Made me tired to watch you load up Lol!
Janice
frogs, re: loading up----it wouldn't have been so hard if I hadn't been so greedy! I'm 10 miles door-to-door from Las Pilitas and I've been assuming that they don't have the salvias that I'm interested in, but yes, I should take another look at their listings. I was just there a week ago. It's on my "loop". If I'm out digging and think of something I want to put somewhere, I can skip down to Las Pilitas, Tropic World, Plant World, Buena Creek, Green Thumb,Ganter and back home in a short time Obviously, I try to keep myself from doing this very often. I'm wanting to go research some salvias this weekend, but it's so horribly hot. No, my plecs are shaded, I got salvias from drdon that I need to decide on and a lot of other stuff that needs to go into the ground, but will wait on, too hot. I was hoping to have more taken off my hands at the R.U.
I think I remember a college in Thousand Oaks as having a good salvia collection, too. Thanks for the Pilitas mention, think I'll check them out now.
Sherry
Hi Sherry,
Yea, that Don can sure turn you into a Salvia nut, that's for sure. lol
I am growing several of his also and they are beautiful. Did you get a Salvia madrensis from him? I got one last year and it is now 6 ft. tall and 4 ft. wide. It is loaded with beautiful tall yellow spires. He did tell me it got big, so I put it in a spot where it could.
I have Crystalspin and Blooms coming for lunch today and to see my small gardens. Oh joy. :-)
Donna
Donna, yes, I got a madrensis and some other goodies. They're all doing well and looking healthy, can hardly wait for the heat to die down some so I can plant. I have room for the big stuff and those are the ones that I really go nuts for. Enjoy your time with 'spin and blooms.
Sherry
Spin and Blooms are coming for lunch? What fun!
Sherry, Walter Anderson will also order about anything you might want. Poway is probably not on the beaten path but is not Nebraska either Lol.
Thanks Janice,
What I'm looking for right now is display. To see what plants look like in full growth and various settings. To make a list of which ones I want. I've got about 25 now, but it's a very large group! I'd kinda been dithering about which direction I wanted to go and I think it's salvias.
Sherry
Ahhhh that might be a bit more difficult to come by. Good luck. I am melting today-how about you. I got all of the shoveling and raking that I wanted to do finished by about 8:30 this am. I am thinking it will be a good day for a movie. DH is just happy that the pile of bagged steer manure is getting smaller. I could probably have picked a better week. He will like the smell better when the mulch goes down. Lol.
Oh, Janice, it's too hot to do anything! Watering, that's about it. I've got to bring in a load of mulch and a load of potting soil and compost, but severely lacking energy to do it...maybe wait til it's some cooler. I had wanted to go to Huntington and Rancho Santa Ana this weekend, but......Had pizza for dinner last night and wondering if I'll have to cook tonight....
