Good idea. I bet it would be really interesting as one of those candid camera type "gotchas." I bet it would make a lot of people think twice before snatching up someone elses treasured plants.
Stolen
I still can't wrap my head around this:
The same person that appreciates the splendid and innocent beauty of a flower-
can steal it.
Fact is, we will never understand, just adapt and smile on. At least they are only plants, eh?
I grow Ricinus, Ipomoea and Datura on my sidewalk border.
What I don't get is that usually if someone wants a plant all they have to do is ask. Most gardeners I know trade seeds, seedlings and cuttings once the plant is established and increasing.
I like the idea of a local news story -- not so much to discourage the bad guys but to encourage neighbors to become protective of each others yards. Jotting down the license plate would have been invaluable to the cops and you can do that without confronting the perp.
Unfortunately, I have my own story to add to this. :-(
I have a nice brick-paved path that goes off my driveway and around to the gate to the backyard. It's also lined with bricks.
I came home from doing errands today, and the bricks lining the pathway had been pulled loose and dumped onto the gravel in front. With some of them, they had to pull away some concrete to get them loose.
Now why would anyone do this? That was about the only part of my front yard that looked nice, too!

That is just plain weird!
Robert.
Someone turning bricks, looking for loose screws and lost marbles.
The neighbor's grandson, maybe? He doesn't seem too aware of invisible boundary lines.
