Coppiced Populus

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Populus coppice? The complex I live in just cut down an ugly, messy Populus. They left a 1' stump which I suspect will grow back with hundreds of suckers.

Yes, it will

. . . unless they treated it?

It probably still will . . .

Yeah, they can be tough! A couple of years ago I carried a hardwood cutting from P. usbekistanica 'Afghanica' (no, I didn't check the spelling!) around Turkey for a whole week, loose and dry in my luggage, and it rooted successfully when I got it home! I just moved it out of the nursery this spring into its permanent location.

It was cut down by "professionals" but I guess they failed to advise the complex of the suckers that follow felling. I've already offered my 6' containerized Davidia involucrata as a free replacement. They hummed & hawed - "It's not native" one lady said in the office.

Once the tree company cut the tree down, they had their money. They probably didn't care about the suckers.

Growin, did you beat her with a "stupid" stick? Ken
