The Northern California Cactus & Succulent Association will hold its annual cactus and succulent show and sale at the San Francisco County Fair Building, 9th and Lincoln Way in Golden Gate Park. It will be open Saturday and Sunday, July 22-23, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. This is the largest cactus and succulent show and sale in Northern California, and admission is free.
The show and sale will feature hundreds of rare, weird, wonderful, exquisite cacti and succulents on display and thousands of plants for sale from many different vendors from as far away as Arizona. In addition, there will be several free drawings each day for a special cactus or succulent. Free seminars will be held on such subjects as care, potting, propagating, using proper soil mixes, and showing plants.

NorCal Cactus & Succulent Show & Sale - San Francisco
Hi Marilyn! So good to see you here. I bet Sue will want to go. Are you working the sale?
Nooo, I can't look/buy anymore!
Hi Marilyn!!!
Hi to both of you! Thanks! Yes, I'll be there, all day both days.
Sue - don't you need just ONE more plant? LOL
Kell - you should come just because you'd adore all the plants in the show. Bring your camera!
I'm most likely going to poke my head in on Saturday Marilyn, so If you see me flag me down and say hello!
(p.s. I'll be the one being a spaz filling up boxes of plants like it was my job)
Woo Hoo! Nice ta meetya!
this is me (on the right) http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2485991
Zuzu and I did a bit of damage yesterday at Lone Pine too! I got this very nifty Sansevieria cylindrica and some other goodies. (we were on a Cantua buxifolia 'Hot Pants' hunt and found them!!)
Hi!
I see we know some of the best people! LOL Are Sue and Zuzu great, or what?
I take it you volunteer at the SF Botanical Garden? I volunteer at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden! Don Mahoney is a really neat guy - we've been acquaintances for many, many years.
Awesome find on the Sansevieria! Yes, they are considered succulents.
If you're interested, I just found out that one of the vendors from Southern California will be bringing quite a few caudiciforms.
Thanks for the posting about this sale. I headed over Saturday morning and have you to blame for the $250 of plants sitting on my porch!! Those little pots for under $10 sure do add up fast. Now I have to figure out where to plant them, but that's the fun part.
Me Too! but not quite to the tune of $250, And I got all starry-eyed at the few begonias for sale too! Woo hoo!
I picked up Sanseviera's, philodendron, begonia and a few odds and ends. WAY cool caudex plants eh?
I looked for you Marilyn, but the place was packed and once I'm in the presence of lots of cool plants, my brain flies right out the window and it's hopeless! Would have liked to find you and meet you in person!!
You're both very welcome. I'm glad that you were able to come to the show and sale and that you found some great plants to take home. I'm just sorry that I wasn't able to meet either one of you.
tom: I'd like to say "I'm sorry," but I'm not! LOL Glad you found some great plants.
begonia: Were you the lady who was buying all of those Sansevierias? If so, I was the one at the cash register. Petra's caudiciforms are to die for. I sure wish I had the money to buy a whole bunch of them! I did get one tonight at our auction after our banquet. I was trying to bid it up and got caught, so now I have to pay for it. But I got it for really cheap, so that's OK.
I don't know if you're interested in going to the Berkeley Botanical Garden, but it's a really cool place and we have some rather interesting plants to see and to buy there too. I'm usually there on Tuesdays and Thursdays from about 10-4.
Hope to meet you someday. Maybe there'll be another Roundup in the Bay Area at a time when we can all attend.
I picked up three sansi', looks like they were grown by Jon Dixon (same tag as the gesneriads for sale which came home with me too!) so I don't know if in the same lady or not. I'll come back to the October sale in Santa Clara if I can.
I love the caudiform plants and have a few caudiform begonias, one adenium from a Daver and one other that I got at Lone Pine last week but the name is lost on my hard drive (brain!) and I cant seem to recall it at the moment.
So which one did you get?
I took a few photos and I'll post them a bit later on.
The show is still on today for those Nor Cal folks trying to escape the heat! Great place to do it is SFO! and what better excuse than a COOL plant sale! At the arboretum no less!
Was that when you were on the phone with me Lali? So what do I do today, go to Novato. I am such a duh girl. And I got home and it was 95 degrees here, unheard of!!
Oh Marilyn. Lali wants to go to the Berkeley Bot. So do I . So we are coming sooner than later. I will email you when we get it together.
I wish I could have gone to this sale. I would have gone nuts, so good I didn't. I so love those caudiform plants. And a friend sent me the coolest sansevieria last week so I am suddenly interested in those too. I bought myself a blue one a month ago.
You know I would have had to have that PINK splashed bromeliad. LOL
Lali, your pics are fantastic. I so enjoyed them all.
Lali, I can't find me in your picture anywhere. Yes, those were Jon Dixon's Sansevierias, and the Bromeliads belonged to Marilyn Moyer, if you know her from the Bromeliad Society.
Weren't Petra's caudiciform plants just wonderful? I think she'll be selling every year at our sale now. I look forward to seeing her more often.
Kell, I look forward to seeing both of you up at Berkeley Bot. Jon Dixon donated a bunch of his plants to the Garden, including several Sansevierias, so they should be on the plant deck in the next week or so.
Please get together as soon as you can. I miss seeing you, Kell!
Now that the heat wave is over, we will be coming soon!! Maybe this week.
Great! I'm usually there Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I certainly can come up any other day as well. If you can come on a day other than Tuesday that would be best. I have volunteers on Tuesday I need to keep busy, so that's not such a good day.
