Frustrated for Lavender!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Randa, no luck here. I will follow Arias' advice (just above your posting) next year. I am dying for lavender!............or are they dying for me?!? Every time I buy some more I say I am looking for my next ex lavender plant! :o)
Thanks Arias for that explanation, BTW.
Hi, I am new at this too... I had 3 lavender plants going this year... I can't believe that 2 almost died and the third o one I planted on a deep pot with a very soft potting soil and tons of gravel on the botton in july (actually I do gravel on the botton of every plant that are on containers... my mother's secret).
I moved that pot everywhere to get the most sun as possible. I got the english lavender (hydicorte) which they say is better for humid weather...and winter hardy... believe me we had so much rain it was scarry.... anyway 2 weeks ago I finally planted on soil (soft but with more gravel on the botton of the hole... the plant was root bound already... so much that it held all the gravel that was on the botton of the pot! it was only a 4 inch little thing when I planted... it grew like crazy....)
Since I am new, I don't really know what I am doing so I sprayed every plant I have with Messager, every 4 weeks, sprayed Fish Food (http://pharmsolutionsinc.com) and water didn't water the plant from the top... and they are doing fine... they flower (which I didn't have the courage to cut...) but messager helps to build the plants immune system and the ones that almost died, I mean they were really horrible - came back... I just looked at them yesterday and I see new growth and they are going to make the winter according to a friend that has experience with that...
and to my stupidity I got 2 plants on a mail order and they are white french lavender - which are not winter hardy and I am going to have to bring the pots inside my house... if they survive it will be a miracle... my den will be a jungle this year... 5 micro mini roses, 2 stevia, 2 lavenders, 2 fuchias and 4 christmas cactus//// plus an aquarium with 5 baby turtles... so I figure that since I will have to set a basking light for the turtles the roses and lavenders may benefit from this also... I will keep using messager and hope for the best.
Kassia, good work! What is this Messager? I have never heard of it.
Messenger is a plant hormone that supposedly helps plants ward off insects/disease and grow bigger/stronger and have more flowers. If you do a search on it, there have been a number of threads about it so you can find out lots more info.
