Turning a limelight blue

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Everyone,
I asked this at the main forum and didn't get any responses.
Is it possible to turn a limelight hydrangia blue. I have 2 of these in my moon garden. I am in the process of changing my moon garden into a blue garden and I'm just wonding if these will turn blue like some other hydrangeas do or if I should move them.
Thanks for any advice,
Sue

You will be a rich person if you succeed.

I'm pretty sure that the blue/pink thing happens with the bigleaf group (H. macrophylla, H. serrata, maybe a few others...but not with the H. paniculata group.

VV is correct, yours is H. paniculata so it's going to stay the color it is. If you want good directions on how to change colors on H. macrophylla though, check out the Hydrangea forum, this subject comes up a lot.

Cut them, dry them and spray with blue floral paint. Don't cover all the green. Absolutely beautiful.

Not of course what you were referring to. But in your blue garden, a pretty vase, and sprayed hydrangeas on a fancy table, ohhh.

Think that would grow in zone 8b? Every hydrangia around here is blue(acidic soil), if I could get this to grow it would be one of kind in my hood.

Spring Meadows, who intro'd it shows hardy up to only Z7. However, many places that sell it say Z8. I think it would be worth a try in your zone. Site in some shade, and water well in summer. Maybe someone else who grows it in the south will chime in.

I bought Limelight 'cause the catalogue showed it as a coral pink (just called it hydrangea, not paniculata)! It didn't bloom this year, didn't know as much about hydrangeas in February as I do now. Oh well, at least it won't clash with the lavender and the Brestenburg and Amethyst hyds it's planted among.
