LOL, Mary, I think you just linked this thread to itself...
We came from over here... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/624727/
Hope everyone has a good night, and I'll see you in the morning!
night all! I hope I can sleep with the coffee I drank. I might be back see if anyone else is here. ~~~~Cherie
Good Morn all, the early bird Corky is up planning her day. of course I have to start early here 'cause of the heat. I am making a memory garden up by the office so busy w/ that. Have to do a lot of soil amending here in Fla. Once i get that done i just plant away. hagd all bbl. Am on my second cup of coffe and sitting here giving meself talk meditation # 44 as in get up and move Corky. hagd all Cork
Good Morning all, I have been missing in action yet again. I have not read yesterday's all the way thru. DH and I took off for a road trip yesterday and with church on Sun. and the shop on Sat. so I am behind!!
Phone just rang. ~~~~~~~~to all.
Joy
Made it up early this morning myself. Sitting here with cuppa coffee. Looks like most of you actually slept last night. Congrats!!! Well just wanted to see what was going on and most of you must still be in dream land. LOL Must finish getting ready for work and out of here. Oldest DS and DH are staying home today (DH's off day) and working on a model car DS got for his birthday. What a great project. Keeps them busy for hours. :=)
Bye to all. Have a good one.
Katy
Good morning all, I'm sort of awake, but not fully functional yet. Drat, Bonnie, I thought we had it nailed last night!! Now I'm sure it's in your computer, some little hitch in the get-along....! Gotta give you credit for trying.
I need to pay some bills this morning before it slips my mind entirely, they've been sitting right here for a week, being ignored. Then, I am going to shampoo the carpets, which have also been ignored, before the temp starts heating up again. It's overcast and looks like we might get some rain. I think the down pour we had the other night came down so fast it didn't even soak in.
~~~ to all for now, check in later and see what you're up to.
Sheila
Hi all,
I'm still here with a bad cold. The aftermath of looking after grandtwins last week. I think it's getting worse rather than better in that it started as a cough and tickle and has progressed to a sore throat and cough.
So laying low, trying not to share this thing any further.
Twyla - get thee to a Dr. soon! As others have pointed out, your teeth are probably making you sick. A dental infection can lead to serious other helath problems. There HAS to be someone who is flexible on payment.
McCool, it you think we can get it organized, I'm game to make a contribution to a fund.
Yesterday, I finally finished getting the rest of the car waxed. something kept intervening everytime I thought I could do it. Got to the bank for the viola society. Now have to prepare some receipts - we had a lot of new members because of the Congress being held in Canada.
Did some preliminary updates on a web site, but haven't put the pages up yet.
Went to the store to buy more cocoa mulch only to find that they've run out before I've run out of garden. They told me they had phone the other stores in the area and couldn't find it. I know most weren't carrying it this year. So I sent an e-mail to the Hershey's factory in Smith's Falls about an hour from here. We'll see what I find out. Meanwhile, I guess I'm back to coffee grounds. I've got cedar mulch in large areas, but immediately around the plants I want a finer mulch.
Gotta go get breakfast. BBL
Ann
Good morning! 68 and humid and foggy here, and thick with mosquitoes-yuck. Have to start driving kids to work.
Ann-I hope you're feeling better. Sorry to hear you're sick...
Twyla-ditto on Ann's advice, get yourself Better!!
Hope critter and McCools DH are also on the mend...will check back
Here's my garden this morning. I guess my "style" would be called "a whole mess o' flowers" LOL
Good morning! Went out to check the coon traps (nada- but the fish was gone...) and then for my garden walk - ended up spending an hour in my jammies cutting things back. You wouldn't believe the huge pile of stuff I cut down! Things look a little bare now! Is it time for a visit to the garden center?? LOL When I return from vacation, I plan on putting in some more zinneas- they are a good fall plant here.
Well, the weather forecasters were wrong again. They said 'gully washers- 2 inch coming' - well now it has changed to 'maybe' a 1/4 inch- maybe...hmmm here come the hoses again!
DS/DGS stopped over last night for a swim. We had a fun time. DS showed me some stuff on my computer - that's what he does all day at work. - I didn't realize he was so proficient!!
VI- hope you feel better soon. If you feel the urge, my car is a total pig sty- from hauling plants around etc. I should clean it as I think I am hauling the boat camping - maybe I will tackle that today. I should wash the outside too, but just hate doing that!!!
Kat- going back to work - BLAH.... hope the day fly by for you!
lauri - good looking floor. Gosh you gals have talent!! Critt- fixing your dishwasher!! Man oh man!!
IO1 - milk the split- can't make the bed, do dishes, laundry, or make dinner... I chopped the end of my finger off years ago and believe me I made use of it - even tho it hurt like the dickins. Got my hair washed...didn't do dishes, laundry or cook for several days!!
Well, time for breakfast....wonder what is in the frig....
i just got done reading everybodys news and i'm sitting here with my fisrt cup of coffee. oh it's so good!!!!
haven't planned my day for sure do i weed and water or clean out my shed?
if i clean my shed i might be able to find stuff when i want it. also if it rains i can clean inside the house. aren't choices grand!
after today we are suppose to be in the 90's' so maybe i should do as much outside as possible. that sounds like a plan. have some breakfast and go do that.
hope everybody gets the weather they need today!
Good Morning...
I need to make a suggestion regarding raising some funds to help Twyla with her teeth. As you know, Dave forbids fundraisers here so if any of you decide to do it, please get private email addresses (not Dmail) and do if off DG. I caught some serious flak last year (and could have been thrown off DG) when we spontaneously raised funds for some "talking" gear for IO1 at Christmas.
Finally got all the necessary information for a new heating and cooling system. We'll have all new insulated duct work, a heat pump and an electric furnace for when it's too cold for the heat pump to work in winter. All of the working units will be outside so it will free up the cabinet in the hallway where the old elecftric furnace sits now. Installation is set for 2 weeks away. $5,000. But, it has to be done.
The plumbing estimate to run 2 new hose bibbs (spigots) on the opposite sides and end of the house came in at $375 but it will have to wait.
I have lots to do today and no energy to tackle it. Sigh.
Have a good day, ~~~~~ to everyone!
Wow $375 for two new spigots...the things we take for granted....
And 5,000 for a heating system...makes a running spring and woodstove look good! Although woodstoves arent very good for cooling!
Great suggestion Darius. Perhaps Critter can give those of us who are willing and /or interested, her phone number by Dmail and we can call her and give her our regular email addy, I dont want to put it my page here and start getting junk mail from some unknown source. Or maybe you have a better suggestion?
Paid bills, BIL went and got us breakfast at McD's...turning a new leaf?, but now I have to tackle the carpet.
BBL
Sheila
Well, I have had coffee, made breakfast, cleaned the kitchen, and will start canning beets shortly.
The phone didn't come back to life over night, so will have to buy one on the weekly shopping trip.
We had 1/2 of rain overnight, it is overcast and sprinkling, so it looks like inside work today.
Critter, are you serious about helping Hope? D-mail me your phone number.
Well off to get something accomplished, amoung other things contact a computer repairman, for the second time. Hope to be able to get things squared away, so my links will work.
Have a good day folks, don't work too hard.
BBL
Good morning all. Was up and out in the yard early this morning. DH got the frame in for my new garden and went & bought topsoil and manure for me but I couldn't get it in til this morning. I wanted it in before the rains came to help settle the soil. DD called around 6 yesteday and said her MIL wouldn't be picking up baby. Then she decided to go for a drink with a couple of friends after work. She gets off at 10:30 so it was after midnight before she got here. Ariana was a hand full too. I think DD's MIL must hold her while she sleeps til DD gets home because she refused to sleep unless I held her. If I didn't she screamed. I can't take that so I succumbed and held her and drank coffee all night. Finally fell asleep around one and up at 5 outside by 5:30. Everything is now ready for the transplants . Supposed to rain today and tonight so that will settle the soil for me. 90 by friday so any planting to be done will be early morning or early evening. But I am determined to have the new bed in by the end of the month. That will give them a good two months to get established before horrid cold weather sets in.
DH made the comment he hoped I was done for the summer anyway with planting new gardens. There's two more places out front I'd like to see gardens and 2 more in the back but I guess they can wait until next year. I've enough to weed and water now. Then I think I shall be done. Just the maintenance alone on all those beds will be time consuming.
I wish sometimes I could find a job. I don't know what the sense of obtaining a certification for something if one can't get a job. Sometimes I think I spent good money and what? No 3 years clinical experience so I can just sit and lose all the knowledge I obtained? If you don't use it you lose it. Plus I have to get my CPR recertification and haven't even a job. But I need to be CPR certified so oh well. Whats $30 to throw away? At least with my plants I get some sense of accomplishment and pride knowing I did it.
Coffee's gone cold so need to go upstairs and warm it up. BL ~~~~~Cherie
Defo---- Well 59. I wish I was back at 59. At 59 I could bench press 240lbs. I was forever and a day going. I was lucky becuase I did not know I should have been dead. At 60 they found full blockage on the left side of my heart and 80% on the right. I survived because my heart itself made some new small veins. So be careful with your flying around you might not be as lucky as I was. I have a life long problem with sitting still. I still go a lot at nearlly 67 but the heart and the dual knee replacement have me going for shorter times.
Dorothy, the new water lines have to be run 70 feet in the crawl space, and insulated. Then it branches off about 20 feet to the front of the house. I wouldn't crawl around under there for $375!
Dorothy - I LIKE your "whole mess o' flowers". Very cheerful.
Bonnie - meant to comment on the phone. These electronic gadgets don't survive getting wet very well. I did in our portable phone a couple of years ago by picking it up carelessly with a diet Pepsi in the other hand. Could only say that at about 12 yrs old, it was probably close to the time we would have had to replace it anyway.
Darius - new heating and cooling - expensive at the time but probably money well spent.
Sheila - let's hope BIL is improving. If it gets too bad, you can make a trip to Canada. I'm home till the middle of August. Was it you who had the thread starting instructions? I THINK I know how to do it, but maybe I should practice a bit before the beginning of August.
Ann
Bonnie and Ann-BTW digital cameras "work" about the same way. I carefully set mine on the counter and it slid off into a bucket of mop water I was just about to dump...Grabbed it immediately but it was deader than a doornail. the $400 mistake that took half a second and I knew it while it was happening...oh well.
Good morning. After running in circles last night (see above) I slept well, all that exercise! Thanks to the person who posted next and got it right.
Darius, knowing what kinds of bugs and snakes might be lurking under your house would be enough to cause me to pay somebody else to do it. Plus, you don't need to be stirring up dead soil which would give your lungs fits. It's probably cheaper in the long run to hire somebody and forgo that trip to the ER. We only have one outside fawcett, so it has a Y fastened to it to run two hoses.
Cherie, I think if that was my daughter going to have drinks after work instead of coming to pick up her child, I would say that was the last time. Ok, now I will remove my nose from your business.
The sprinkler is going in the vegie garden, Breezy has had his medicine and I have not heard him cough, hubby is off to work, and I'm going to do things inside while it is cool, then head for town again. Yesterday's run didn't give me time to do errands and grocery shopping since I wanted to get medicine into Breezy as soon as possible. Maybe today I'll get to check the nursery for a replacement echanesia (sp?) (cone flower) and a couple of other things. Small towns don't have much.
Have a great day, count your blessings.
V'ann, I got instructions from GG who has abandoned us for the Hosta fiends, I mean friends....and after I got the hang of it I must have thrown them out. It's not that difficult and I think the problem lies in the innards of Bonnie's computer, not in the operator. I had dmailed how GG told me to do it, but then turning it over in my mind I figured out a simpler way, and called Bonnie last night to tell her. She's on dial up or I would have walked her through it on line. Does everyone want them so they can print them or write it down? OK if you don't want them, don't read the next part!!
1. Get into DG. Go the the Coffee and thread.
Go up to the address bar and left click on the address to highlight it. Use the right mouse button and when the little box with choices appears, select "copy".
Now, Minimize that screen without putting anything in the reply box.
2. Now, get into DG again by opening a new window. (Yes, you can be in two places at once in spite of what you told your DH) , and go to directly to Parking Lot.
Start a new thread by using the subject and message boxes at the bottom. To put the previous day's address in the message area, click the right mouse button, and select "paste".
Add what ever comment you wish to make. Go up and fill in the subject line with Coffee and....if you haven't already done it.
3. OK. Deep breath. Send it. Then, go back to your new thread, and do the copy thing with that new address that is showing in the address bar.
X out the new thread, and go down to the bottom of your screen,where you minimized the prior thread, and restore it. Now write your message in the message box, right click the mouse, select paste, and "tomorrow's" thread address will smack right into the message box for everyone to see. .
I wait to put in the message because sometimes the addy jumps into the middle of a sentence! Once it appears, you can move your cursor around to write something before it, or after it.
OK, the rest of you can start reading now. LOL
I gotta get off this chair and finish the carpet, I'm not even half done and I haven't had any volunteers.
Later dudes!
Sheila
okay ... so it's afternoon already. I've been up although I will admit to sleeping in for a bit.
I'm not even going to try to comment on everyone's post. I can't possibly keep up. I still haven't found my right shift key but did locate my apostrophy so am making progress. LOL I would like to say ... Darius ... I'm sorry for anything you went through because of last year's fund raiser. I was certainly not aware of it ... and am sorry to learn of it now.
Well, I just relized I have found my lost caps. LOL Am waving to everyone xfor now. I'm going to *try* and be good and stay off the puter for a while.
Hugs all way round
Afternoon everyone! Just got back from town. Went to Best Buy to get a new camera case for the new camera- of course it wouldn't fit in the one I already have...bought an Andrea Bouchelli cd while I was there too!
Next stop was Sam's Club to develop a load of pics -pick up a bunch of water (how silly to buy water!!) and then onto Hobby Lobby. Now sit down, you just won't believe this - they were putting out CHRISTMAS merchandise!!! Now I expect it before Halloween, but before Labor Day? Oh come on..... Oh at Sam's, since I had to wait an hour for the pics, I was forced to try out their ice cream- only had soft serve white, but I wasn't fussy!!
And would you believe - it is raining a little here- just a soft rain, no downpours - thank goodness!! I had just immunoxed my dahlias and brugs as I have the mother of all white fly infestations....but since it had been on for over 2 hrs, I think the stuff will still be effective
Weather forecaster said we have a heat wave coming- three days in the 90's with heavy humidity... oh mhy poor gardens....
M5- I need to write down your posting instructions.....carpet cleaned yet? BIL still hanging around?? Why don't you just give him the boot...or put him to work!
Yikes on the story of phone/cameras!! My camera is sitting on the bar right next to my dishes that are soaking - I better move it pronto!
Well, no one did my dishes, so I better tackle them....
Sheila, thanks. I'm in regular contact with Kelly on the Hosta forum. LOL I'll give it a try, but I don't expect any difficulty. I sometimes have three windows open when I'm catching up.
dmc - which is worse - soaking the camera or a DH who leaves it in a rental car in Germany?
Been busy all day working on the International Viola Society web pages making them sort of XHTML /CSS compatible. Wasn't gonna do that yet until I couldn't figure out what kind of crappy code I wrote that gave me different size headings.
BBL.
Ann
Sarv, haven't you ever heard of Christmas in July??
Is that like a half birthday???
Afternoon coffee break. Yanked out all the remaining peas and planted pole beans on the trellises, and still need to mow. It looked like it was going to storm, so I came in. The garden is really dry.
Ann-Well, I could smack the DH with the 2x4 if he left the camera in a rental car in Germany, but I pulled a few muscles and got my back out of whack kicking myself for being so stupid! (Although if I hadn't washed the floor, that water would not have been there!!)
sarv-yep, learn from others' mistakes! LOL. I've heard of kids whose cell phones drop in the toilet from their back pocket in the restroom...with hundreds of dollars still to pay on the contract. Shudder. I CAN NOT think about winter or Christmas...I live for summer. Glad you're getting a good rain. I dread that 90's and humidity, please dont' send it on when you're done with it.
Hi,
Just dropping in quickly this time.
Darius, thanks for the "heads up". I didn't know that it was a problem, just felt bad for Twyla. If anyone does want to contact me, use the link on my page to go to one of my business websites. There's a toll-free number and email address on the Contact Us page of the site. Also realized another little problem as she doesn't seem to be in the address exchange.
M5 and V-ann, I'll D-mail you my e-mail address and we'll see what happens.
Has anyone heard from Twyla today? Don't know how much we dare even say here, but if we seriously want to help, it would also be a good idea to find out what amount of $ we are looking at. I guess any further discussion should be on regular e-mail.
Ann
McCool, d-mail your e-mail address to me also.
I haven't even checked in during the day. I canned pickled beets today, it is not hard to do, but time consuming. And after looking at the amount I produced, I really don't think it was worth a whole day's work. Only 10 pints.
I am so sorry that I am lagging behind with commenting to everyone, maybe when the canning slows down, I can get back to it. Just know that I have read all, and am really interested in what you do, just can't fit in the response time.
I have a desk full of bills and bank statements now, that needs to be tackled. So I will be back after a few hours on paper work.
BBL.
Me again. I survived town, got a bunch of shopping done and left some of it for another day. Would you believe that in a town of 9000 which is a supply center for a large rural area, that nobody sells kitchen curtains? Do I really have to make an 80 mile trip to find them? That's the way it is. Now if I wanted plastic I could buy a shower curtain and cut most of it off but I'm not going that route.
Another way to handle the correspondance of helping would be to form a yahoo group. But first somebody needs to investigate to find out things like is there any type of public assistance available? Maybe her county health department could answer that question. What about her church? Churches usually have a fund to help people in need. It could be that she is reluctant to ask, but I think her health is certainly at risk and she might just be so sick that she just isn't up to finding out. Do we have anybody here who is at least in the same state?
A quick weather report for you, especially those who are dripping. It's 95 here, wind 16 mph with gusts to 25, and 14% humidity. It feels like sticking your head inside a dryer. You can emagine how it pulls the moisture out of plants, but it is wonderful for drying clothes on the line, and the farmers are all putting up hay so they are loving it.
defoe, your pickled beets sound good. Our beets are just the right size for baby beets and greens now. When they get about baseball size I can pickled beets. One year I canned some plain and some pickled, we ate all the pickled ones first and then one by one the others got pickled on the stove top by adding vinegar, sugar and spices to the beet juice. They were ok, but I like them better after they have been sitting in the pickling soloution for several months. We are still waiting for somewhat local corn. Mine hasn't started to tassle yet.
What are all of you having for dinner? I bought some brots to put on the bbq, and might do some foil packages of potatoes with onions along with them, have spinach to cook, and might also make more fried zucchini. It's time to do all of that, hubby gets home about 45 minutes from now.
Somebody asked recently about the ~ sign, it is just to the left of the numbers along the top of your keyboard. Probably it is good for something else, but it make a dandy waving to you sign. ~~~ bye.
Mary- your dinner plans sound yummy. The kids and I just finished our dinner (DH has school tonight). We had cubed steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, and steamed squash. Had to make DH a plate and sit aside or there wouldnt be much left. That meal is one of my kids' favorites!!
I am just about to put my youngest DS to bed and then I will have to tackle the dinner dishes. I let my older son stay up later, especially in the summer. Have already given them baths and they had some fun in the yard earlier playing chase while I was watering everything and pulling a few weeds.
Today was a better day than yesterday. I am feeling a little better each day after the oral surgery last week and getting back into the hang of things. Actually today was the first time I have cooked dinner since the surgery... just realized that. The boys and DH have been surviving on cardboard pizza and corn dogs, etc. for the past few days. LOL
Not a big fan of beets of any kind. They dont have much taste IMO. But they sure are beautiful in color.
Mary, you're right that it makes a good waving sign. It's a "tilde".
As to what else it's good for, well my family web site address uses it. www.magma.ca which is my server and then because they are hosting a web site for me and I don't have my own domain name, it is
/~username If any of the rest of you have web sites hosted the same way, you probably use it too.
Just for fun I Googled it.
Here's the Wikipedia listing on it -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilde
A history - http://diveintomark.org/archives/2002/10/04/history_of_the_tilde
and lots more.
I still have a sore throat. if it's still sore tomorrow, off to the walk-in clinic I go. haven't done anything other than work on the computer and walk around my yard a bit this evening. I had a couple of zucchini that I thought I might pick. SOMETHING beat me to them. The neighbourhood groundhog maybe or a raccoon. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
Think I'll sign off for the day.
Have a good night.
Ann
