angel trumpets? does anyone grow these and have pics?

Susan, they are gorgeous! Mine are failing fast. No rain. Even though I 'sneak water' a bit, they still look awful. The last lot of leaves all curled up. Hopefully we'll get rain tonight!!

Thanks G!! :) I don't feed them like I should, but they do fine.. They get hit with the sprinkler on our days that we can water, so I don't have to do much.

Hi Vi, dose the Velvet Rose have 2 colors both rose and white on 1 plant? It's a great picture! Wenny

Wow at the beauties. Mine are just now getting into the flushing stage. I have Dr. Suess, Insignis Pink, Blush, Miss Anna, Adora, and Cotton Candy with buds or blooms. The Insignis Pink has been blooming for a while.
Here's a new rooting method that I found to be quite good.
I have one that I got a seed from Susie French and it sprouted this way and also have some that I grew from cuttings this way. Some one on the Brug forum posted about it. Using clear cups and Spaghnum moss and keeping the spaghnum moss damp the cutting will root and you can acutally see the roots and know when they are ready. I also used the bubbler system to root some, about 50, and found it to be good also. Information is on the Brug forum for the bubbler system. Anyone interested I can locate it for you.

this past winter was my first experience at rooting brugs. I rooted several in clear jars with just water. They did great. I still have some in pots, is it too late to plant them in the ground? Will they come back next Spring if planted now?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

You should be okay to plant in the ground especially since you are in Savannah If you feel uncomfortable about it, take some cuttings for insurance before frost or right after the first frost. The stems will be fine through the first frost or more but the leaves will all be lost which is okay since they aren't necessary to make roots. I prefer rooting them in a good soil-less mix since water rooting requires too much attention to water quality.

I've had brugs in the ground and a big tub (one of those plastic ones with rope handles) for years and haven't had any problems with them coming back. They can be slow to emerge in the spring but once they do, they grow quickly and get larger each year.

hcmcdole.

Re the ones in the plastic tubs with handles, do you do anything special for protection? Do you cut them back?

Thanking you in advance for any info.

Hey Judy,

I had been taking the tub indoors for the last 2 or 3 years, but this past winter I just had it under our deck with no mulch, or any other protection. I took 4 cuttings for insurance purposes which all took with no fanfare.

In late spring, the shoots starting coming up from the tub and is now about 4 foot high. Hopefully I will find it a decent garden spot this month. I will take more cuttings as well. (After the shoots came up on both the pink one in the tub and golden one in the ground, I neglected my cuttings and most have gone bye-bye).

Thank you so much for the info. I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do with mine this winter which should arrive in 6 wks, hopefully not before.

I would pot them up (depending on how large the pot is when they come in), put them under lights, and keep moist but not wet. They can take a lot of neglect - just watch out for dryness and too much water. My cuttings last year were put in a bus tray (the ones restaurants use) using Perlite only and watered once in a great while since there were no drainage holes. They rooted sitting on the basement floor and used what sunlight streamed in during the day through a small window.

How could rooting cutting be easier than that!! Thanks so much for the tip.
