Another Caladium

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

These guys have just taken off in this spot. Not sure of the name something to do with Winter or Christmas? :)
Below is tradescantia spathacea 'Tricolor'
and behind are Siam tulips (last days of flowers) with yellow walking Iris.

I love caladiums and you have a great grouping of plants there. I just put in some Siam tulips and ordered a bunch more. I didn't know they came in so many colors. I'm making a whole area for them right next to some really nice bamboo. I hope they look as good there as in your group.

what a beautiful grouping! i have 3 of the 4 but not together (so they don't look quite as nice as yours). thanks for the pics...you give me great ideas. keep 'em coming! what's the variegated (?) plant behind the irises?

One of my favorites, its actually a copper leaf . It was knocked back to the roots after Wilma last year so I decided to let it grow out when it made its comeback, and since then the colors have become much softer. But its time for the chop again I dont want it to become too leggy

Here's the grouping in my front garden, im still looking for a home for the one aglanomia in the pot with the tag on . Another one of my favorites I have it in the back garden for years now and it has been my best performing Aroid(ish)? plant. I was cultivating the pups and then I found it at HD . I never seem have a picture of my garden without an odd pot , hose or shovel hanging out. I should take some glamor shots before the Winds come and blow it all away again.

Terrific combinations, everything looks great. I love those tricolor trads; they seem to really show off those caldiums.

that is so glam in my book! LOL i recognize the copper leaf now....it's huge! i had one picked out the other day and put it back because i'm trying to stay away from annuals for now. (probably not an annual for you.) you're making me want to try it anyway.....i can't even stick to any of my own rules. LOL i have a beautiful red one (in a pot) that has been so carefree, but I love those colors. our HD has really been impressing me with their selection lately. thanks for the pics! :o))

your photos are absolutely gorgeous. The name of the caladium you have growing beautifully is White Christmas. Who cares about the pot....your garden is still glam!!

Thanks MM
I knew it was something that . I was never a big fan of them untill I saw the pale white and green colors. Im not craty about the reds and pinks, Although I have a Thai Beauty (for the design) Now if they would come up with an orange one would all over it :)

Celt33040,

Most of your Caladiums are White Christmas although it does look like thre might be a bulb or two of Candidum which is very similar to the White Christmas. The couple you have with the thin green veins are most likely Candidum. It is tough to tell the difference!!

Hey Bill,
Im interested in exactly how you caught the difference. Is it these two your talking about ?I see what you mean about the thin vein but they also have a lighter quality is there a size or growth hasbit difference . I think the plant files are mixed up too, maybe you could have a look at them.

BTW is there an orange caladium out there anywhere.

Happy Birthday Bill

Celt,

Sorry it took so long to reply. I can tell just by looking at them. The Candidum has the thinner green veins then the White Christmas. The WC usually has larger leaves but both varieties will put up some nice size leaves. You can also get the Candidum Jr. which is a dwarf variety of Candidum.

Thanks for the B'Day greetings, it was a tough B'Day, I've been fighting a summer cold. Go figure, it's 95 degrees outside and I have a cold.

If you(or anyone for that matter) ever have any questions about your Caladiums, please don't hesitate to D-Mail me or email me at CaladiumBulbs4Less@earthlink.net

The pic is a pot of some Candidum Jr. I have.
