Hi: anyone still planning to add some more of their creative results to this thread? I am looking forward to seeing what's being done. I am swamped at work and as such have had to slow down on my pot painting. Let's not stop posting on this thread! Having a creative outlet is good!
Thanks,
Renate

I think I'll be trying this over the winter. Work is crazy for me too & I ordered WAY TOO MANY
bulbs (something like 1100) so I'm gonna be one busy lady planting 'em all when they come.
But I look forward to see everyone else's handywork in the meantime!
Tam
Tammy,
You may be breaking some kind of record for number of bulbs planted in one season. Are you planning on using heavy equipment to do your digging!!! kt
Thanks Renee for the encourage ment - I confess I am very timid about trying anything - which is sad.
Runktrun - I've been planting around 1000 bulbs each fall since I bought this place. It was
frustrating the first few years 'cause they seemed to have so little impact (its a rural property -
pretty big). I am using heavy duty equipment - my spade & hori hori knife! LOL
Tam
Tammy,
I am truly in awe of your perseverance and would love to see some photo's come spring. Even if your canvas is large your display must be amazing . I ordered a couple of hundred while in Amsterdam this spring and thought that was a lot!!! kt
I love sharing pictures so be sure you'll see 'em in the bulb forum this spring.
This year there was a four, five or more part thread with everyone sharing their
spring and then summer bulbs. I suspect there will be something similar next
year. I look forward to seeing your display there too!
And as for perseverence... my DH seems to think its more like an obsession.
And I've got plenty of relatives who agree. Its a good thing there are so many
other "normal" people here on DG. LOL

ah_hoya, that pot is beautiful! Love the color combo you used and the way the color bands are at a diagonal. Very, very pretty.
Love those painted pot's from all you crafty plant people! Just Beautiful! I think I'm going to try my hand at it, except I will have to use stencils as I can't draw a straight line! I can't draw or paint freehand .... no talent at all!
But, please tell me: WHERE do I find "patio paints"? I've never heard of it. I remember many (@28) years ago my husband bought paint at Home Depot and painted our garage floor. Special cement paint. Is that what y'all mean by patio paint?

Hi staceysmom
Thanks for the kind words. I'm presently moving several plants to concrete pots.
I have 3 hoyas that are so top heavy that the heavy crete pots work very well.
Cheap to make as well. The pot pictured cost under a Dollar to make and took about a messy hour to complete. :)
ah-hoya you should post a thread on your techniques! I would love to learn how to make them!
I happen to have 12 bags of concrete leftover from yard repairs!
::sigh::
I have no "crafty" painting skills like ya'll do. My terracottas are plain terracottas.
::sigh::
Sissy: the Fenestraria is commonly called "baby toes". I've kept mine outside in full sun all spring and summer long. It tried to die on me when kept inside, and I really thought the whole thing was dead (it looked really pathetic). I left it as it was, and it sprouted back to life. I water it when I think about it (and when it hasn't rained in a while). I must have done something right because I noticed these strange stalks sprouting up about two weeks ago. Sure enough....flowers!!!!
If it lives in arid areas, it sure doesn't mind the muggy south!
Hi gaiadisciple
You can do pots like mine. No painting at all because I'm horrible with paint.
The color goes all the way through so to keep them looking new for years you just scrub them with a wire brush.
I'm cheap..er...frugal as well. This 14"w x 11"h x 9.5" back to front oval beastie cost between 2-3 dollars in materials.
I've been asked to post a how-to on these easy to make critters and I will as soon as I can get some pictures together.
ah_hoya...very pretty!!!!
Hi All! Happy New Year! It has finally calmed down enough for me to catch up with you all.
Plantladylin: You can find Patio Paints at Michaels and maybe Hobby Lobby. I load up at Michaels. I bought just a few colors every payday so that it was more affordable. After a few month I had a nice color collection.
Ah-Hoya: Love the pots you create. Have you started a 'how to' thread yet?
I have been embellishing Christmas ornaments and tops with crystals. In the middle of winter it is hard for me to think about painting flower pots, but it was really sunny yesterday and it was all I could do to prevent myself from ordering sempervivums at the Squaw Mountain website. First I need to find a way to move the plant cuttings I have right now. Talk to you all later.
Yikes! I HAVE been 'away' too long. (Sorry, started with an injured hand that summer and then life just got the better of me.)
Anyhow, I'm back and hope others will be, too.
I don't know if some of the questions asked - loing ago - got answered, so here is one answer at least: Patio Paints can be purcahsed online at crafts outlets, as well as at many crafts stores. The stores tend to only sell very small bottles - at marked up proices - and usually hav elimited color selections. So, I recommend going online.
Very nice Sissystars! You've been spending your time very well. :-)
I love the planting of the first one- good with plants AND paint. Clever girl.

Oh thank you, Tammy. I take no responsibility for the man in the hammock at the back of the first picture. :-)
I missed him ... I was focussed on the plants & container. LOL
He looks quite comfortable.
