Coffee...and for Saturday, July 8,2006
Thanks Elaine, I got half of it, still need the link on July 7 thread to take us to this one.
What time is it? Nighty-nite all.
Well, I guess Elaine and I can claim a joint venture in thread starting. Since I am making progress, by the end of the month,I should have it all down pat. My hat is off to everyone who has had this job. It sure is harder than I thought.
Thanks Elaine for the support, and "being there" to catch me when I fall. ((( ))).
Don't believe it, but it looks as though I'm the first real morning person today (if I send this soon enough). Great job, Bonnie.
I'm gonna send this and then go back and catch up on yesterday.
Ann
Morning everyone - all dressed for my garden tours in the ritzy party of town - all is except my hair- went to bed with it wet and it is sticking up every which way - get the picture!!
Maria, what a beautiful lawn!! I love looking out and seeing all that greenery -ours however is quite the brownish tinge this year.
DH set the live trap last night with a big hunk of salmon - something came in, had dinner and left! This is the first time he has used the trap - something isn't working correctly. We'll give it another try tonight!!
suz- I just heard your state is back up and running!! But with a 7% sales tax - ouch! (or was it 6?) CRS right now.
Defoe - that is a load of beans to do in one day. Our whole garden is so late, it will be Halloween by the time we are harvesting. Oh well... Here's the pie crust recipe and believe me it is so easy that even I did it easily.
1 1/2 c flour
3/4 teas. salt
1/2 c oil
3 Tbsp water
sugar to sprinkle on top
Mix flour, salt, and oil with pastry blender. Add water and mix with hands or spoon (I used spoon) until ball forms. Divide and roll between sheets of wax paper. Peel off top paper and invert pie crust into pan. Peel off second sheet of paper and prick bottom of crust with a fork. Add filling and top crust. Cut vents and sprinkle with sugar. (I was concerned with the pricking of the bottom crust, but the gal who gave it to me insisted that she does it no matter what kind of pie!)
Well, I have to get off the phone as it is time for my sis to call me long distance for our Sat gab fest.! Check ya later!
Wa-ahh! I have to work a half-day. My boss at the cemetery where I work is also a minister and he is on a mission trip. What hardship! The poor guy's in Hawaii!
I have one fellow employee that absolutely thinks she is an expert on everything. While she clearly is smart, she gets on her soapbox about everything and she's so loud and adamant! And only 30 years old.
I have another whole week of putting up with her. She is giving the office a thorough cleaning while the boss is gone. I have a couple of places to point out and I'll bet she rebels.
Meetings! I am involved with 3 historic preservation groups and the chair of one of them. We are going to do a S.W.A.T. and are planning that now. A S.W.A.T. means Saving Worn-out Architectural Treasures. We are going to raid a house built in 1828, clean up all the junk and the yard, nail plywood over the windows on the lower floor and try to prevent further deterioration until it's sold. We have a state-wide group called Preservation/NC that will market it with protective covenants and a schedule of restoration work attached to the deed. The place is a mess and hasn't been lived in since the 1950s, except for various vagrants.
I have run a group of drunk men out of there twice. LOL, don't know how I had the nerve. But the first time I ran into them by accident. They were all holed-up in a back room on the second floor. I knew running would be useless so I just kinda swelled up like a confronted cat and told them, almost with the proper English disdain, that this was private property, a historic site and they had to leave. They filed right out
The second time I had this great young gal with me that had just given a presentation to a group and she was in heels and a tight skirt. It was fun getting her to crawl into the window. Then when we got upstairs, there was the same group. Her eyes got hugely wide with fear. I put my hands on my hips and gave kind of a "huff." One of the winos nudged the other with his elbow and said, "She's gonna make us leave." So they did.

Catching up now -
Sarv - the cat barf is one thing I don't miss at all about no longer having pets. Re the computer, have you tried hitting the escape key? Sometimes it might work. Might also help if you can figure out what key you are hitting that causes the damage. Good on catching the coon.
Hi Joy ~~~
Molly, hope you had a good get together with GardenGlory.
Hi Georgiaredclay - new? Welcome. Look forward to getting to know you.
Hi to ves522 too. Look forward to getting to know you as well.
Sheila - loved your comments about wall papering. I've generally found that I get on much better if I do it myself w/o help. But only have one room with wall paper at the moment and it's a small bathroom that was done 15 years ago. Still looks OK; so I'm keeping it the same though DD#2 will throw her hands up is despair that I've not modernized it.
Hi Cherie ~~~
Maria - hope your dentist app't went well.
To those who live where it's too dry, we in the east would gladly share some rain with you. Actually, it's been a pretty good week with only a few small showers since a HUGE storm on Monday afternoon dumped record breaking, basement flooding amounts of rain on us.
Sheila - when and where are you going on vacation?
Welcome Katy - nice to have a few GOBs in training with us.
Bonnie - do you eat all those things you can? Makes me tired thinking about them all. But good for you getting it done.
Darius - nice paint job. Sorry about Mr. Slow. Hope you got all the peaches done.
All you and your talk of hot dogs - it's one thing I can't eat. Dunno why. Methinks my mother did something awful to them when I was a kid, but I literally gag on them.
Twyla - is there some sort of social service agency that can help you with the teeth? You've got to get them taken care of.
Gotta go for breakfast - DH said coffee was ready. Will be back later to catch up.
Ann
Good morning all, still in jammies, and have just finished reading the paper, and am on my last cup of coffee. Slept like the provebial dead last night. Need to make a trip to the library, DM is out of reading material. Then the prep for the fish fry begins.
VIann, yes we do eat what I can. However, this year I am canning for my DM and DMIL as they enjoy the garden produce, but can no longer do the canning.
Woodspirit, I can just see you "puffed up", you are probably like me, when angered, could tackle a buzz saw, then later think about the consequences.
Sarv, going to the ritzy part of town, please behave like a proper lady, and no snitching from the gardens.
Well, things won't get done, if I continue to sit here. So I am off to the shower, and then to the library.
Will catch you all later.
Morning all, I am waking up slowly. Should be fully awake come tomorrow...LOL... Read all from yesterday and wow everyone is busy!! Only one eye open so can't comment on all...just WOW.... Well going to take coffee out with me and rake mimosa blooms from the lawn befor it hits 106 and roam the yard...bbl.....Lauri
edited for temp.......

Rec'd a call from DH yesterday at work, friends invited us over for a cookout last night. That was a most welcome invitation, by the time I get home there is not much of fixing supper & we just make do. Anyhow, Vel always goes all out, her DH had grilled steaks & vegies. Then a garden salad and new potatoes roasted in the oven. So so good. After supper we played Shanghai Rummy until midnight. And my bedtime is 9:00, so definitely slept in this morning.
This must be out social weekend, as a nephews adopted son is having a birthday party (another cookout) today. They live about an hour away. Haven't seen them since Thanksgiving. These 2 kids have had a lot of grief trying to get a family started. She has had numerous miscarriages, then they had a beautiful little girl that lived 3 months. This was my sisters first grandchild. So sad when they lost her. Anyway, they adopted their son just a fewmonths later. Now Mama is pregnant again.
We have 16 grandkids & the 8th great GK is due in September. What a difference.
Have been invited to a granddaughters surprise birthday party at the lake for later this evening & then overnight. Probably will pass on that as it is an hour away a different direction. Will see how all works out. Must get out & water my potted plants before we get gone. Had a few sprinkles this morning but that is it for now.
Just looking out the window at my cannas. They have grown up to the eaves & have 2 or 3 more months to grow.
BBL
No problem at the dentist Ann, only a cleaning
Frankay, welcome lol so suprised to see you here, how are things in 'down' Maine? What have you been up to? Come back and tell us!
With all that rain we had the yard still is green but eventually it wil burn too, thanks Bonnie and Sarv, always appriciate a compliment
Woodspirit holy mackeral,to run into some drunks good thing they where "nice" ones or you would have been in trouble.
Petra, my goodness, you do have a large family, what fun!
Larie, how to you stand that heat?, yuk
Another lovely day but I do not think it is going to be as cool as yesterday grrrrr. I am cross with Samson, he dug a whole right on the edge of the vegetable garden ruining the edging, it is so big he could burry his whole head in it , such a naughty boy, will he be surprised when he is in his "hotel" and there will be nothing to dig, ha ha
I did water earlier and gave the petunias in the window boxes a very good trim, they have practically reached the ground, now the do not look as nice but will again , at least I hope so
Hi Elaine, are you up yet? lol
....and Ernie, does your head get sore some times lol, don't let it ! You know we love you most of all your pictures of your gorgous gardens!!!!!
I'm at work and it is quiet. I'm the only one here. Probably all I will do is straighten files and piddle around.
My meeting yesterday turned out to be fruitful and I got 2 thank yous from attendees. We decided on all the displays we will be doing at our fledgling museum for the rest of this year and 2007.
I have also invited a speaker to the next meeting to teach us a little about accepting appropriate historical materials, cataloguing, storage, etc.
Hi yourself Maria ... yes I'm up! LOL I'm still drinking my coffee and catching up. *smile* Poor Samson ... he just can not help himself. Maybe he needs a brother or sister to play with? Then he wouldn't be so naughty! LOL LOL
I'll be back to say hi to everyone else. Got to get a refill on the coffee. I'm still brain dead. LOL
Okay wanted to come back to properly respond to everyone I missed earlier.
Ann, you do so good with going back over and responding to all you've missed. Yes, I'd say you did get the worm this morning! LOL Hope you're having a good day.
Frankay, I'm not too good with names. Have you been here before and have I already said hello and forgotten? It might be CRS has set in or perhaps you are new? In either case ... good morning and do come back and chat. :-) I always put on a fresh pot of afternoon coffee though I think I'm probably the only one in the group that drinks it. LOL
sarv, yuck on the garden tours in the ritzy part of town ... of course *wonderful on garden tours. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, right? ;) Hope you're having a great time! The pie crust recipe looks simple enough. Hmmm, wonder if *I could do it? *Not! LOL The DH says it looks like I've murdered the Pilsbury Dough Boy when I take out the flour. *grin* Think I'll just grab a piece of yours. Mine is toooo fattening anyway. Plus I'd have to clean up that mess.
Woodspirit, so sorry you had to work today, but gosh your work does sound so interesting. History is one of my loves. :-) I do feel so sorry for your boss, though. Poor guy!
Defoe, once again ... there's no need in the constant thanks. You are always looking up info and doing research on plants for me. You are a good friend. :-) The fish fry sounds wonderful. We are having an icecream social at church tonight. It's a great day for homemade ice cream. Sounds like you are having a bumper crop of beans. Oh, and I love pickled beats. You'll be all set come winter.
Hi lauriwilson ... I just love mimosas. Those blooms are messy but gorgeous! I still remember how beautiful my Grandma's was. Oh, and the smell! It's to die for!
petra what a lovely invite you had last night. My kind of menu! Sounds like you'll be busy all week-end. :-)
Suzie, I too heard your state is back up and running. Congrats on that good piece of news. Hope you're having fun today! LOL
Maria ... is Samson still being nauty this afternoon? Give him a pat for me. You might have to wisper in his ear. LOL
Darius, meant to comment on the beautiful choice of color you chose. That sounds soooo pretty. I think you could do all sorts of things with that color. Blends nicely with your neck of the woods! :-)
Well, just finished tuna subs with fresh peppers from the garden and of course sliced tomatoes and cucumbers. Didn't want anything toooo heavy. Don't want to spoil my appetite for tonight's ice cream! LOL After all, thought I'd eat extra for sarv. ;)
Mccool how is your DH today? Hope he is doing better and showing signs of improvement.
Okay, got to get up from here. I just can't seem to get comfortable in this chair.
~Elaine~
Hi Folks,
Back after a morning of gardening and a few errands. Still catching up on yesterday. You were all a busy lot. Do you all still have Radio Shack in the US? Here in Canada, all the Radio Shack stores became Circuit City a year or so ago. We have one of those wind-up radios from Radio Shack, but I think it is a name brand. Would have to go find it to be sure. Anyway, it works very well. kept me in sound for a whole evening 3 years ago during the big black-out that hit the east in August.
bonnie - we got only one side of the garden edged. Still have to do the other. Maybe this evening. It IS in shade now, so I could work this afternoon, but I'm stiff from working in the garden this morning.
Sarv - hope you enjoy the garden tour in the ritzy part of town. I bet they all have gardeners.
woodspirit, your work with SWAT sounds interesting, but potentially dangerous if you oust vagrants from buildings very often. Still, it's good that someone is trying to look after historical treasures.
Yesterday we had new carpet installed in our screened porch. All furniture out on the patio and it's leading to a clean-up. We found a table and chairs - Indonesian plantation teak. All fold down. The table is an octagonal gate-leg which we will leave only half-way up most of the time and if we can find a way to hang the chairs on the wall, we'll probably keep two of them stored in folded postition when we don't need them. Gave the old table (42" round) and chairs to the neighbour across the street who has a large deck and no furniture for it. I'll take a picture in the porch when we get it all set up.
We started out making a batch of bread. DH will help knead it since he eats most of it. I could probably be happy with some store-bought bread over the summer. It's now rising for the second time. When I finish writing this, I'll go check on it and can probably shape it into loaves. (makes 4 loaves at one time which is why I've never wanted a bread machine).
Spent the morning out in the back garden in the sun and got it mostly weeded before it got too hot. Still have an area at the side of the yeard which needs lots of weeding. then I'm gonna move some plants around. Might lose them, but more likely I'll just lose any more bloom on them. That's fine. They are totally in the wrong spot. Has anyone ever divided an Astilbe? I have a couple which are getting too large for their location. Are they easy to divide? I guess I'll dig them up and find out - but a bit later after the bloom fades. I have a couple of hostas which need to be moved around too. Since they are pretty forgiving and since they are mostly in the shade, I think I'll do it fairly soon.
For now, on to the bread and maybe relax a bit before heading back outside.
Ann
PS to Elaine - I don't think I'd have success with the pastry either. It take a totally different touch to make good pie crust than it does to make good bread. Kneading bread, I'm sure, kept me from beating my kids at times when they were young.

Well good afternoon everybody. Back from the library, had to go grocery shopping for DMIL, home, made 20 pints of strawberry preserves, and then did the prep for the fish fry. Have a 2 gallon container full of hush puppy mixed up, and about 30 pounds of fish breaded. DH wanted to try some fried green tomatoes, so we are doing that also. I am going to try to sneak in about a 45 minute rest before we have to leave to go to the church.
DGD has been with DS's GF all day. They just came in, and they are in the pool. Don't know whether DGD will go with us tonight or want to stay with Teresa.
Lauriewilson, I imagine you awoke pretty quickly this morning raking the mimosa blooms.
Petra, last evening's meal sounded wonderful. Gosh when you have a family get together, you really do it, if numbers mean anything.
Maria, glad that you got the dentist thing out of the way before you leave on your trip. Oh, just let Samson dig all he wants, you know that he will not have the opportunity to do that where he is going. He will be so glad to see you when you return.
I01, hope your ice cream social is good. Now that was a dumb statement, any ice cream is good, what I meant was hope you have good fellowship to go along with the delicious ice cream. I actually laughed out loud about DH saying it looked like you killed the Pillsbury Doughboy. I can put a cup of flour on the counter, and can manage to almost coat the kitchen with it before I accomplish what I meant to do.
woodspirit, isn't it a good feeling when you have a productive meeting? I used to sit in meetings, where about the only thing on the agenda, was when we were meeting again, time, refreshments, etc. I could not stop thinking about all I could get accomplished in the time I spent in those meetings.
ViAnn, you have been busy. It has been so long since I had an opportunity to get out and weed. One of my beds, looks like it is more weeds than flowers. I hope I have a day this next week that I can devote to outside things.
Well, gonna sneak in that little rest, then do another shower and off to the church. I will check in when I get back, and let you know how the fish fry and concert went. The concert is by my DM's minister and his family, and they are great.
Have a good afternoon
Back from the garden tour - would you believe it was a tour by a landscaper (he had done all 5 homess!!) what a disappointment. Everything was manicured and looked totally 'done'. Only one of the 5 was a 'ohhh' type of garden. They had big drifts of plants- stunning. The rest were new homes with that 'new' garden type of look. Oh well, the money went to a woman's shelter - so that's a good cause.
Stopped at my favorite greenhouse on the way back and picked up a lacecap hydrangea that I'd been wanting and they had all their geraniums for 25 cents - now can't beat that!! All their perennials were 1.75, not a good selection, but I did find one that I wanted!! All in all a great time despite the disapponting tour!
Defoe - where do you get your energy - hope it isn't with something illegal LOL
Maria - I laughed at that naughty Samson - he is a stinker for sure. Do labs ever calm down and just lay around? Maybe you need a little 'shitzu' (spelled x I am sure!) That is what I want, but DH of course said nay on that.
VI, I still can't figure out what I am hitting to make things disappear - the only keys are the shift, ctrl, fn, alt and some key with a flag on it. I need to play around with something useless and hit all the keys and see what happens! Will try the escape button when it happens again tho!
Hey try the pastry - honest indian, it is so easy. I am even thinking about another pie - and I NEVER make pies. I only dirtied one bowl...
DGS called and asked if we could babysit him tonight and if he could spend the night. He is such a sweetie - I am going to whisper in his ear about the new ice cream shop down the road. If he asks DH, we'll go for sure!
wood - you're working on a Sat??? Now that's a crime....you should be in your garden! You were brave to tackle drunks -I avoid them at all costs!!
petra- what a social butterfly you are!! I'm jealous...It seems like we are asked out many times in a row and then sit home for months with nothing to do..I actually don't mind it as I am a home body anyhow.
Well time to get the decent clothes off and my comfy ones back on and hit the garden!! Need to plant those geraniums asap...
see ya later
Sarv - too bad the garden tour was a disappointment. But it sounds as though you had luck with sale plants.
have fun with DGS - hope you get the ice cream.
Ann
Finally managed to get to sit down. Started out this morning by removing the screens and cleaning them, and then washing the inside of the windows, which you can only reach when the screens are off. Figured I might as well do it before I got showered as I would just work up a sweat doing it and have to start all over when they were done. You wouldn't believe how much fuzzy stuff was on the outside. I had to keep cleaning out the little brush thing on the vacuum. Nice to see outside though. Hung sheets outside and did a little thinning of the Valerian, which was getting a little too enthusiastic and starting to cover up some of the smaller perennials and impatiens.
Then, DH wanted to run errands so I grabbed a book and tagged along while he went to the recycling center, lumber yard, hardware store, etc. Was hoping he'd suggest breakfast or lunch but no such luck.. Came home, made sandwiches, and cleaned up the kitchen and it's almost 3 pm already. Leftover pizza for dinner, you guys got me going yesterday with your cardboard pizza comments!
Petra, nice invites for food and socializing! I like any outing that involves food that I don't have to cook or clean up after. DH is not very social, and if I elbow him into doing something he really doesn't want to do, he is not pleasant company.
Hi Frankay! Nice to see you here. Have you been one of our lurkers? I see we have a lot more views than we have replies, even allowing for those of us who check in without comenting, just to keep up....this is the biggest kitchen this side of the Chatahoochie, you might have to bring another chair......or hop up and sit on the counter.
Maria, your lawn looks so peaceful and serene...wouldn't it be even more attractive if Samson were allowed to do some landscaping for you? Some dogs just Lo-o-ove to dig. Golden Retrievers usually aren't as bad as some of the terriers who, genetically, are predisposed to dig. And naughty Elaine, suggesting you get him a companion!!! Double trouble!
WS, amazing what we dare to do when our adrenaline is up!! Lucky those weren't belligerent drunks, as they often are. Your work sounds so interesting. I would love to get into some of those old houses and rescue woodwork, etc. You can't touch that kind of work now, and it 's a shame to see it damaged or destroyed.
V'ann, vacation? Not happening. DH cannot bear to be parted from his computer, his cars, etc. He never wants to go anywhere if he can help it. I travel with my DD and my DIL when I get cabin fever. Although my DS invited me up to what is now her son's place on the lake in Michigan, (BIL is doing remodeling for him until he retires and moves his family up there permanently) but my memory hasn't gotten bad enough yet that I've forgotten that miserable sagging mattress in the guest room, the black flies, or the lack of air conditioning. Since the son and his family will be there through July on vacation, I wouldn't be welcome until August...dog days........uhhhhh....think I'll pass.
Laurie, 106* I would be melting......... like the bad witch. I cannot imagine going out and working in that kind of heat! Whew. I think that's why Carat is so eager to get out of Vegas! We got a brief check in from her, last week, but I imagine she's got her hands full.
Elaine, an ice cream social is just the ticket for a hot summer evening! Have a good time, and after you have some extra for Sarv, have some for me, too!
Sarv, it's too bad that garden show was just advertising for the landscaper! I would have been disappointed in that. Professional landscapers seem to do very neat work, but don't seem to be very creative in color and texture. One of the local ones here wins ribbons at every garden show, and DH and I look at their work and it's just BORING.
Bonnie you've been so busy in that kitchen! I'm not even considering making jam until I turn on the AC...so far even tho' the temp is high, we've had a nice breeze so it's comfortable in the house. I had to laugh at your comment, and Elaine's about flour everywhere. When I set up my kitchen I used the short counter/cabinet as my "baking station" and had my marble slab put there. Do you think I actually use it? No, I just carry the stuff over to the long counter, and dribble flour, sugar, etc. across the room! I'm sure you are enjoying the pool, but probably not as much as your DGD!
Time to make a run for the early editions of the Sunday papers. And maybe a little ice cream stop along the way.............a girl needs her chocolate, ya know.
~~~ to Hope, Ernie, Bal, Joy, McCool, Molly, Cece, and etc. see ya later.
Sheila
Ahhhhhhh.... I'm sipping a cold iced tea, brewed with Lipton's plus a good sampling of different mints from my deck pots, with an added wedge of fresh (albeit very sour) lemon from my own tree! I just did some weeding in the raspberry bed, but not too much, so I'm pleasantly tired, and only a little scratched, and I have that satisfied feeling of accomplishment, LOL. On my counter is a pint bowl of red rasberries, and I ate about the same number right out in the garden. I also picked 7 more early tomatoes that were showing good color (hate to leave the first ones in the garden too long and risk their being eaten by something other than me). We have 3 small but beautifully ripe tomatoes for our salad tonight, plus some delicious pickling cucumbers that we found at the farmer's market this noon. We also picked up some perfect, golf ball sized new red potatoes. Yum!
It sure does feel like summer!!
Critter - that tea sure sounds good. One thing Canadians DON"T know how to do is make good iced tea. Most of it comes from a jar and is laced with artificial lemon and sugar.
Ann
Whew it's a tad toasty.....Currently 102 and warming up. I'm in for some sweet tea and then back out to convince the Sweet Williams to quit taking over the beds.Got the majority of the blooms off for today there will be more in the a.m. I love the blooms and our yard smells so good in the evenings mixed with the gardenias. Harvested more tomatos and cucumbers. These got into the house.
Maria,LOL Samson has been naughty digging that hole!! Love the lawn picture it cooled me right down.
sarv, sorry to hear the tour was a downer but great finds at the nursery. I don't think I have too much more room to plant....but maybe.
Laughed at the flour comments, my DH says I am the only person in the world that can get flour in a closed drawer across the kitchen when I am baking...LOL he may be right...
Hello to the newbies, sorry I'll get the names soon even if I have to write them down . I too have CRS or brain melt one...
Well ~~~~~~~~'s to all I missed back to the yard work....Hugs Lauri
Lauri, I know what you mean about the scents from the garden, especially in the evening. The lavender hedge along the driveway is in full bloom, and some enormous stalks of oriental lilies have started blooming in the back bed. Mmmmmmmm!
I'm a big one for mess when I'm baking too -- LOL at getting flour into a closed drawer; I'm sure I've done that! BTW, for anyone who thinks they can't make pie crust, that recipe using oil rather than solid shortening *really* works and turns out flaky every time. My grandmother made fabulous pie crust and used to say that it was really pretty easy after the first 300 or so pies (she worked at a place that did dinner dances, plus she grew up on a farm, so you have to consider that there could be 10 or 12 pies on the table at threshing time), ROTFL! My homemade pie crust sometimes turns out better than store bought and sometimes much worse, so I usually punt and buy Pillsbury crusts in the refrigerated section. But I will vouch for the veg. oil crust recipe!
My encounter with the squatters wasn't as bad as you think. I was packing.
I love anything historic but especially the structures, including the more modest ones such as bank houses, spring houses, barns, etc.
Oh I would love to have some sweet tea, but I've had too much trouble sleeping lately. Sticking with the cranberry juice.
Not much going on around here. It's been hot so I'm trying to stay inside. But tomorrow I have to get some cacti and succulents moved around.
I had a lovely visit yesterday with GardenGlory. Picked up the Messenger and she generously shared some extra banana plants with me, along with a few other choice plants. Our gardening friends are just amazing and wonderful!
I planted the bananas before dark last night and good thing because it rained.
I called to see how Jeremy was enjoying his vacation. He's spending the evening with his DB and sil. Partied last night resting tonight. If you are wondering why I speak of his siblings in this way, it's because his brothers are not my children. He'll be home Wednesday and then we must get to work.
Well, let's see, internet cards or TV, probably cards, TV is kinda cruddy.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'll check back later.
Molly
:^)))
hi everyone!!! it'll take me awhile to remember names.. it was a slow day.
i started planting some starts and where i wanted to plant one there was a boulder. it must weigh close to 10# it'll work nice in a rock wall. i have to redo that wall around that bed. the moles are having a blast with it. it's the hill behind the house. my hubby cleared it off 6 yrs. ago and we were both looking at it and said "tiers" it took us 40 hrs. finding and hauling rocks and him building the 2 main walls. and putting in the steps. noway he'd let me help. wish i'd known more about soil back then. its got a good patch of clay. that i am slowly improving. keep finding rocks,nails and glass.[i don't let anyone else work there] the people that lived here before must of used it for a dump site!!!!!!!!!!
i've got daylillies,thyme,crazy daisy,rhubeckeias,echinancea, iris, liatris, gallardia,just to name half the perennials and a bunch of annuals. oh yeah it did start to rain so i had to stop. it was not near enough rain. so i'll have to go out early tomorrow and do some watering.
went out later and did some weeding because that back hill gets to hot i worked elsewhere. got some more deadheading done also.
just had sandwiches for supper. maybe icecream later. cool sounds good!
hope to talk tomorrow. vicki
Hi everybody! I actually made it here on a weekend. Won't be here long though, i'm tired.
Yes, NJ should be almost back to normal by Monday, but with a sales tax increase from 6% to 7%. YUCK!
I went online to check my e-mail earlier and had a newsletter from Burpee. The are having an "East Coast Hydranga Open" next weekend. I signed up for a lecture by Michael Dirr. Almost every class I have take raves about him as being the top authority on trees and shrubs. They will also be having garden tours and a plant sale. I tried to post a link, but have never done that before so not sure if it will work::
Went to our picnic and out for dinner with friends tonight. I'm so stuffed I wont need to eat until next weekend. (but of course I'll probably pig out again tomorrow, lol)
I'll try to be better about reading everyones posts tomorrow. Hope you are all having a great weekend. Good night!
Oh crap, I just typed a ton and my finger hit something and poof - half of it went away, so I tried the esc. key and the rest went poof! Won't hit that one again!! Drat wish I could find out how to undo with this darn thing.
Well, as I was saying.....DGS was using my laptop - playing some game. I told him I needed it for 15 min- so I am under the gun!!
We just got back from a new ice cream place - a keeper!! I thought we'd all get smalls, but DH always orders the mega cone - he ticks me off doing that..I gave him the 'glare',but he just smiled and said 'I'll take a big strawberry on a waffle cone' - pass the 2x4... Maybe next time he'll think about it when I give him the look LOL
What in the world is 'sweet tea' - I thought we had a discussion before about this, but someone please refresh my memory...sounds good anyhow!! VI how do Canadians make tea? I like the flavored stuff - peach being my favorite...
lauri - that's mighty toasty to me!! It was 87 here - but the humidity was real low, so it didn't feel bad.
M5- my DH and yours must be related. I have to twist his arm to go anywhere with me - then I wish he'd just stayed home. I travel with my sister- we have a grand time - laugh like fools. She's trying to decide whether or not to have some major surgery, so we haven't done a trip this year and last year we had DS wedding, so no trip then either. I need one!!!
critt- send me some raspberries- I'll make pie! Raspberry pie is one of my favorites and I haven't made one in years. But now that I have that oil recipe down pat, I can make more easily.
Molly, I've faithfully used the messenger - don't know if it really makes a difference, or just the extra attention I"m giving things, but I've got tons of flowers this year. I have seven brugs with buds. One should open tomorrow I think. Jeremy will be home soon won't he? It's been nice in Mich, so I hope he's enjoyed the weather. Does he visit here often?
ves- no rain here either...so hose hauling duty again for me. They keep saying chance of storms, but it must be a real tiny chance!!
well, my time is up= nighty night!
Sarv, yep Jeremy comes home on Wednesday. The last time he was up there was May 2000.
That reminds me, tomorrow I need to Mighty Plant the Brugs, Bananas and......................something else. I hope I can remember.
Molly
:^)))
Hi folks,
Well now bathed and hair washed so it isn't sticking out any more. I just let it stay bushy today while I was in the garden. This afternoon I didn't do much outside except wash down our resin porch lounge chairs which were too dirty to go back into the porch with the other new furntiture. And I took some pics. This evening, we got the pavers laid into the other side of the new garden, I moved a stepping stone block 3 inches and I laid another stepping stone block into the lawn near our gate. the lawn had never come back well after we moved the extra dirt last fall when we built the new garden. Too many wheel barrow loads in to narrow a spot. So a couple of stones laid into the lawn in the heavy traffic areas should do the job.
I'll post a cuople of pics of the new porch furniture and I'll put more garden pics up on the "What's blooming in Canada" thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/624318/ Just give me time to get them there.
Here's one of the chairs and the gate-leg table. We'll use the table with one side folded down unless we have guests.
Evening all,
I01, thanks so much for asking ---- DH has actually behaved himself fairly well today. He had to change the dressings on his feet himself today because the visiting nurses aren't available on weekends. (That seems a little odd to me, does it to you as well?) At any rate, things seem to be going fairly well, he hasn't shown any symptoms of the really bad side effects of the medication so far. We probalbly won't know for at least another week whether or not this treatment will actually effect a cure or not. The good news is that his blood tests came back negative for diabetes.
Re: page views vs posts --- I know that I'll usually check this thread at least 5 or 6 times a day whether or not I post anything. I try to keep up with everyone whether or not I feel that I have anything to say. I'm sure that I'm not the only one, so that may well account for a good percentage of those page views.
I have the next two days "off" from the store, but have to go to a gem show tomorrow to try to find a replacement stone for a customer's ring and some wholesale watches, etc. I hope to get some needed gardening done in the rest of the time, but the weather forecast is for hot, humid weather and I don't know how much I'll manage under those circumstances.
Suzieq, glad that your state got things together enough to resume normal business. I hope that things get back to normal quickly.
Hi Maria, your lawn looks lovely. I just never got into that kind of thing for myself. If I had a huge amount of space, maybe it would happen, but I've never been one for formal gardens. In my view, they're nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. I'm more of a woods and wild meadow person myself (probably to the eternal chagrin of my neighbors). Sorry about Samson's penchant for digging holes. I'm more of a cat person, so can't really advise on dog problems. I sure hope you find something that will deter him though! I've just had to sprinkle a product named "Scat Cat" around some of my herbs because one of the cats just loves to sit it, roll on, and scratch up some of my plants.
Bonnie, you're getting there slowly but surely. Honestly, if there's anything I can do to help you in posting these threads, please don't hesitate to call. I know that you've had numerous offers of help, so hope that something works out for you.
Molly, so glad you had a good visit with another DG person. Good luck with the new plants.
Apologies to anyone I didn't address by name, I'm getting pretty tired and just can't respond to everything in this thread. Hope everyone has a great night.
E. McCool
sarv, I make sweet tea by doing a big gallon jug of sun tea and then add sugar syrup to it and wa-la sweet tea. I can drink my weight in it...and that is alot..:-)
Ann, I love the table and chairs. Looks great. And the frog is tooo cute you have been busy and it looks great.
Molly, glad to hear Jeremy is coming home soon. I bet you miss hm terribly.
Vicki, hi there, UGH a dump site I had one of those when I frist started building beds here. What a mess!!! Hopefully yours is not as bad.
suzie, Sorry you have an increase in tax but glad things will be getting back to normal for you.
~~~~~~~'s to all I missed yet again....Have to go break up a growl fest between the cat and dog.......Lauri
