I just planted this Northern Lights azalea this spring. It's not looking so good. Is it an insect, disease, or just a not-happy plant? Tamara
What's up with my azalea?
Hi
I adore the Rh. family. Your azalea looks ok for just planting.
Make sure it is cool with some morning sun. do not plant it
too deep, the central stem and top of the roots need air and
will like it better when the azalea leaves start falling on it.
Rh take about a year to acclimate, the 2nd year will see
new growth. dont worry about the dead stems and leaves.
Since you live in Ohio, its probably pretty windy there in the
winter? I didn't do it but I think I had better burlap my Rh.
this winter. Do not wrap the plant, but put up a mini wind
brake around them.
That red might be some sunburn or nutrient uptake deficiency.
Keep it cool and roots cool too and you will have a lovely'
plant next year. Flowers !
Dont dig around the central stem either, that hurts the
top roots.
hope this helps
sheri
Thanks for the info Sheri! Tamara
