Flower Time!

Santa Barbara, CA(Zone 10a)

For those of us not going to the roundup, here is a new thread. What is flowering in your california garden? The pic below is a Pikake Jasmine vine with a clematis peeking through. Right by my front door, it is very fragrant, especially at night.

And a closeup . . . sorry I can't recall what the clematis is . . .

Oh oh, is this anything like Hammer Time? LOL, oh I just crack myself up sometimes LOL... ahem, oh sorry.
Ok, so picture time is one of my favorite things around here, ask all the DG how I can bore them to tears!

I collect MANY plants, here is one just starting to bloom. Tropical hibiscus Sun Showers

Well, not all blooms here, lots of color and texture from foliage. My Abbyssian banana, a voodoo lily with it's neat spiral foliage and red begonias that bloom non-stop year round.

Hi Michelle! Yes, when that one blooms, it's a show all by itself!

Here's an odd colored one, DH calls it a baby poo color LOL, but I like odd and it stays.

Just 4 pixels but I use my macro setting most times for closeups and also the sharpenting tool in Picasa program.

Macro setting on your camera, (most have it on the camera shown as a little flower) looks like you used it in that last photo.
Picasa is a free Google photo program. Here's my Picasa thread with the link for downloading and some examples of the simple effects. For instance I downloaded your image and use the sharpen feature. Only a slight difference but the leaves now are sharp.

Wow! Stellapathic: Love your plants and your house! I did not even know that burros tail blooms! Also, do glads come back evey year or do they need to be replanted.

Glads come back, I always forget them every year and they are a nice surprise.

beautiful blooms Stellapathic!

I will have lived in this house one year on August 1. It's a rental like none other I've ever encountered. I'm the first renter after two major gardeners sold it and moved to Hawaii. It's packed with cool plants. I was here last year on June 15 and the glad was just budding, but when I got up here on August 1 it was over, so I didn't know what color it was. I'm kinda surprised it survived the gophers. If I find out gophers don't like glads I'll have them all over this place. I just ordered a bunch (I mean a bunch!) of narcissi in one of the co-ops. Anyone feel like a working trip to Cambria in the fall? Nice guest room for trade ;)

Mary,

So, you planning on coming up to help plant bulbs? Cambria is on the coast, midway between LA and SF. About 35 miles NW of San Luis Obispo. 15 or miles north of Morro Bay. Couple hours north of Santa Barbara, couple hours south of Big Sur. Couple miles south of San Simeon and Hearst Castle. Very pleasant weather. So far the high here at the house has been 78 this summer.

Here's a shot from this morning. The delphiniums are soooooo happy here.

A little closer.

BTW, anyone know where I can find a replacement saucer for the birdbath? Raccoon got his big butt up there and knocked it off and it shattered. The plastic plant saucer looks so wimpy but I haven't found anything to replace it yet.

San Jose, CA

cambria's nice. maybe you can find something in one of the "antique" stores. it will probably get knocked off again though. i might be able to help with your bulbs. :) depends on when fall is... i like them in containers though since they're interesting when flowering but just taking up ground space the rest of the year.

i have sinningia tubiflora blooming. it smells so nice every time i go by it.. kind of a lemony scent. mmm
