Someone contacted me wanting seeds or cuttings from my Corylus contorta. I thought these were primarily root grafted as mine is. I don't mind giving a cutting but thought we should make sure first there is a chance for success. Has anyone done this? Thanks

propagating corylus contorta
Grafted onto reg. C. avellana, it should work. Not all are grafted, but seedlings are slow growing, unreliable, etc. Rooted branches also work, but again, they grow slowly. Regular Filbert is a fast growing tree, while the contorted version is about 1/10th as fast, thus the grafting. These can be pruned at any time, but there is a season for grafting and achieving best results, and that season for us is spring. Cuttings can be rooted anytime.
