Look, no wing
Name that Moth
Wow wallaby that last photo is great! So many beautiful moths pictured in this thread. I always think of moths as being grey and boaring - never realised there were so many pretty ones.
wallaby - we cross posted - edited to say those last two photos are great! Amazing how sharp the flower is behind that invicible wing!!

I can see why they're called hummingbird hawk moths :-) Wonderful photos!
Cross posted again!
One more, from the front. It's feeder loooks to come from a pointed snout, the head reminds me of a dolphin.
I have quite a few more pretty moths, when I get around to posting them! So many have delicate patterns on their wings, they are beautiful. They remind me of Victorian crushed velvet and patterns.
They are brilliant photos Janet. I'm afraid I have spent the summer dashing out with my camera every time I have seen it and been just in time to see it darting off out of sight. They don't stay still long do they.
No they don't normally stand still for long, or never unless resting, but I was lucky. It was enjoying those flowers and took no notice of me.
You seem to have some special contract between yourself and those moths and butterflies you photograph, Janet! I saw a big moth in the garden a few weeks back and rushed out with my camera to get a closer look at it but it darted out of sight as soon as I tried to get close. Have no idea what it was, couldn't even get a good look at it.
Moths lay eggs on your plants and the eggs become leaf rollers Regards Paul
Paul, I have very little trouble with leaf rollers. I get the occasional one on the roses, but not enough to damage too much. I like moths.
Well I would bite your back too if I thought I was in danger! Perhaps it thought you might be good to eat. Now if it was a crocodile that bit you I would understand.....
You have pretty moths, you should be feeding them.
I haven't looked for the name of this one, but see how clever it is at camouflage

Janet that is good! :-)
Very pretty color and I love the rusty red marknings. All moths here are different shades of gray and very uninteresting ........
i for get the name of the one i showed you but it pollantes fruit trees and flower comes out at dusk and is very fast leporrad or tiger moth i think
hers the name Banded or White(5-lined) Sphinx Moth i thought it was a huming bird at first it moves so fast
Paul it seems very colorful for a moth - very pretty :-) Where in Florida is Lake Alfred? I lived up in Gainesville for 6 years ..... and never once saw a hummingbird :-(
about 40 miles from Tampa ive been here six years and never saw a huming bird yet LOL are you from ice land?
Yes I'm from Iceland. We were in Florida while my father was studying at the University of Florida. Are you north or south of Tampa?
South
Got those Cruel plants growing ready for next year. I will have to check them regular for the moths.
Great pics everyone, I love looking at moths and butterflies from other areas of the world.
