Help, help

Pleasantville, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi Dave and any and all,
I just took a pix of my campanula and saved it to a folder on my PC. Then I wanted to put it on the photo forum and I went to Browse and found the folder and the pic and double clicked on the file name and it came up in the browse box and then it started transferring and when it got to 100% nothing happened.
What am I doing wrong??????
Oh, pulleeze and thanks, Ruth

Is it saved as a .jpg?

Pleasantville, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, I believe so, Jody.

Hmmm, that's an odd one. I've never heard of this specific problem happening.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Oh, I feel stupid. Emergency over. I think I had it in the wrong file, OR I didn't give it enough time. Dave, it was saved to a My Documents folder. I just now copied it to the download folder under aol. And it worked. It's now on my Journal page and I'm just about to post it on photo forum. The other thing is I might have got impatient and not let it do its stuff. After it showed it was downloading and reached 100% it took a minute or two to finish. Maybe the first time I didn't give it the minute or two. Would you know which thing was wrong?
Ruth-and thanks for replying so fast.

I'm not sure which of those was causing this error, but it could have been any or all of them! In either case, I'm glad you're able to upload pictures now.

By the way, I checked the image on your journal, and it's quite big (1280x960). If you are going to post it to the photos forum or anywhere else like that, you might want to decrease the size to 800x600 or 640x480, as a courtesy to the majority of the members with a very slow dialup account.

Best,
Dave

Dave, I thought I had the camera set at 640, but I guess not. (I'll check again) Or do I have to do something when the image comes up in the viewer?

I usually just resize the image after the shot is taken, using whatever software I'm using. The method for resizing a picture differs from program to program...

Thanks, Dave. Will learn how to do.

Runrew, When you originally download a pic to your computer it goes to a photo shop of some type...you can go to image on your tool bar, then resize, and size options will be there. I have also found in my photo shop I must resize before I make any other changes otherwise the pic will stretch to fit. Hope this makes sense. Stacey

I think so, Stacey. I'm still finding my way. I think I'll call Fuji helpline and straighten it all out.
Thanks, Ruth

Runew, open the picture, on your computer. Along the top of the window it opens in, there should be a toolbar menu.
Try "edit" first. Look for "resize" or "redimension." If there is nothing like that in the edit menu, look for the resizing utility under a "tools" menu. Somewhere within your image editing program (which is the one that opens your pictures) there should be a resizing option.

All the important things I want to do (change the colours, size, etc.) come under 'Photo' in my programme - which seems really stupid to me, because what am I working on? You just have to try all the buttons - if you save it twice with different names, you can play around with the various things on one of them and you still haven't lost it if you do something drastically wrong.

The first time that I tried to picture on, it read that 100% was loaded but nothing happened. I found that if I left it alone, it would finally show up. Patience is one virtue that I am still trying to cultivate.

talon5,
I did that. I found the resizing button and resized to 640 and saved it. Then when I went back to the viewing screen and brought the picture up from my file, it showed at the original 1280. I'm not sure what I'm not doing.

You are so right, woodspirit, I'm very patient with some things and very impatient with others. I guess this is one where I've got to practice patience.
Thanks for the help, guys.

Well, I did it. I now have not one, not two, but three pics up on the photo forum. I hope I can restrain myself, LOL.
Thanks to all who helped. You are one wonderful group of goodhearted people. And a special thanks to Trish and Dave for this one-of-a-kind site.

If your image editor works as mine does, when you close the resized picture, using the "X" caption button, you should get a popup box that asks if you want to keep the changes you made, and possibly another, after that, that asks if you want it to save in .jpg format. If so, click the "OK" buttons for both. If you don't get either of these popups, what program are you using as an image editor? Maybe I can figure it out?

Oops.......guess I should read the WHOLE thread, before I answer, huh?!

talon5, it must be the early hour. Thanks anyway.
