I had a rough summer- it was Sooo hot and I didn't get some of my callas planted until very late. I think the ones in pots just refused to grow because they were too warm. They never sprouted until this fall, and now I have them in the greenhouse and they are happy as clams- but I'm not! I want to get them dug and sorted and stored!
Anyhow, it's nice to have a colored calla blooming in December.....
Who has some Calla lilies to show us?
Would that be Hawaii? Mine were gorgeous, they developed a really nice red flush, more so when it was really cold! We had the opposite to you, freezing cold summer but they still flowered! Unfortunately I had a computer crash and lost the pics!
Someone started a new thread, not sure if I posted it there but don't think so.
No, my Hawaii never grew! Never set root, either... I checked the bulbs and they are still OK, so I'm not sure what is going on- I'm just leaving them in the pot and hoping for the best!!
This was from a box that had Majestic Red and Fireglow mixed up. I suppose it could be Fire Glow, but I don't think so! It'll go into the ever-growing "unknown" box, ha ha!
Frank Holford is growing, but I think that's the only new Aethiopica coming up so far.
They do like to be cooler to grow, the heat must have sent them into dormancy. Mine have completely died back, just put them in the greenhouse in their pots as it's getting down to -5C at night now. I dug down to some and they are nicely firm.
Yours must be Fireglow then, some are so similar! My aethiopicas are holding onto some green, they usually sprout afresh in late winter. They obviously didn't like it too hot either, to take root they like it cooler too.
Yes, my Aethiopicas are really starting to shoot up, the bulbs from 4Paws co-op especially! It's so nice to see those dark green leaves in the winter.
