Good morning all. Have taken my garden walk, and have some flower pics I am going to post. Some of them I need help identifying.

Happy 4th to all my American friends on DG. I guess you must all be out celebrating. Have a great time.
Just a normal work day here - we already had OUR holiday.

Hi everyone!! Had a terrible time getting on here last night and again this morning. Defragged and pushed a lot of buttons and I finally got here!

I'M GONNA BE A GRANDMA!!! Kids came over last night and told us. Bout time too!! I'm hoping for a girl....all we have are boys in the family so far.

We have no big plans today - other than picking the tart cherries off the tree today - and those aren't big plans!! We can watch fireworks from our back yard or better still from the lazy boy and watching tv!! LOL

I need to haul the sprinklers out again - still no rain. Our lawn is completely brown- 2 acres is too much to water.

Well, it is late and I still haven't done my garden walk!!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Sarv,

My Dsis is in Battle Creek. She said the fireworks got rained out last night and tornado warnings down in St John County. Sorry you didn't get some rain.

I'm having a quiet day here at home.

I also took some pictures and will be posting looking for help on a critter hole in my shed.

Last couple of days I haven't done much of anything that I planned. Way too hot and I have been feeling a little down. This will pass, as usually it does.

Good morning everyone...and Happy Independence Day!

Great cat photo! Is that an Aby?

Morning everyone!
Happy 4th!

We don't have any big plans here today. We'll be able to see all the fire works from the deck. I don't care for the crowds.

Molly hope you feel better soon. :-)

Hi to everyone else ... will just ~~~ for now. Need more coffee!

Stephenville, TX(Zone 8a)

Good morning all and happy 4th to ya from down here in Texas!! Fixing to go watch the parade downtown this morning. :-))

Meezersfive--Olivia is just PRECIOUS!! I just adore siamese kitties.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Olvia has just been full of mischief the last several days. She behaves nicely with the older girl kitties, but is giving Sammi a run for his money. Either she wants to play, or sit on my lap, or destroy my posts by jumping on the keyboard, or sleeeeeeeep. She's a pistol. We'll watch fireworks over the tree tops from nearby communities, I don't much like the crowds either.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

If anyone wants to watch, here's the site of the live feed from NASA. Great pictures. They are leaving the suitup room for the pad now. It takes a moment to load. There is sound, but they aren't always talking so I run it in background so I can listen.

Glorious 4th to all. DH is suffering from a head cold and we have no plans. Olivia is a cutey, even thou have always been more partial to dogs. All 3 of our jelly jars for the orioles are empty & they need washed & filled. The first young ones are out & about learning to eat the jelly. The yard is full of them this morning. They are so pretty.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Happy Independence Day! I'm not doing anything except for still catching up on planting things that I've never gotten out.
I planted a pink hydrangea my daughter gave me for my birthday on June 6. It's suffered a bit as it is pot bound, but I gave it a nice home. I have very acid soil. Is it true that you have to add a lot of lime if you don't want it to turn blue?

Yes, I think that's true about the hydrangea. In my yard they are naturally blue. Isn't that so amazing?

Kooger ... how is your DH this morning?

Oh Meezers, I think Sammy is probably really lovin Olivia. Hmm, I think I've spelled her name wrong in the past? So sorry about my *bad* spelling! LOL

Pati, I've enjoyed your link the past couple of days. Thanks for always sharing. :-)

Petra, I think there are probably exceptional kitties on coffee as I'm a dog person, also ... but I consider myself "auntie" to a lot of kitties now! ;)

Okay ... just had to pop in for a minute. Am waving again to all I've missed!

Salina, KS(Zone 6a)

I01 I didn't get my thoughts correctly down on paper, which is normal for me!!! There are exceptional cats, kittens, especially on DG, have been enjoying them. Used to have a big orange & white tom cat that rode on my shoulders when I was going chores. There have been wild (is feral what they are called?) cats around here, & am not one bit enthused about them.
Well, oldest grandson called and the very small town where they live is having a 4th celebration, which is annually. His 2 boys (3 & 1) are riding in the pedal tractor competition. Probably will go to that this afternoon. Not supposed to be too hot today nor very many people there, so my kind of outing.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Hope all of you are having a great day and the weather is as nice as it is here though quite hot but better than rain

Sheila, what is your cat holding on to, not glass? lol

Have been watering and gave the hose to Samson for a good, wet run..

I discovered yesterday AC gave out on me, can you imagine on the 4th of July weekend? No one around, it got to be 95' in the house. Finally bought a fan but was too difficult for me to put together( am not smart enough to do thingdlike that) and none of my children nor neighbors around. This AM my SIL came and put it together for me, ah that feels good.

Hi Maria,

It's very interesting that you posted that picture. It saddens me when our veterans and active GI's, in addition to our flag et. al. are not respected.

DH and I attended our little hometown parade this morning and leading the parade was a float with veterans and a HUGE American flag. I cried when DH and I were of the very few in our vicinity who stood when that float passed us.

Starkville, MS

Thank you for posting that picture Maria - it is an unusual commentary of the state of our country's patriotism, but is also a statement about our freedom to do what we believe - which is the premise our government is based on. Personally, I would have stood beside this man, hand over heart. But we have been given the blessed freedom to choose.

Happy Birthday United States!!!!!

ginni

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh gosh, I still stand for those kinds of floats and the Star Spangled Banner, and ceremonies that honor our veterans....and we always put our flag out for special days...I wonder why some people don't?

Maria, she is climbing the screen. My screens sit inside the entire window, and they need to be taken in and the cottonwood fluff vacuumed off them. Olivia has climbed them all. I hope she isn't making holes.

Gotta run, check in tonight and see y'all then....~~~~~

In for a break- it is sweltering here - that hot, heavy air that saps your strength!

DH and I picked a load of tart cherries. I have never made juice before, so I'll be trying several different methods. For the first batch, I squished as many cherries into a quart jar, added 1/4 c sugar and boiling water and pressured canned them.

I think I may cook them first for the second batch...but I don't know for sure.

Maria, that pic is heart wrenching. I always get puddley eyed when the veterans walk pass _ seems like we forget them once they are home

Well, time to get back a picking

Glad you appreciate that picture, you see I know what it is like to live under a dictatorship, just be careful not to lose it!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi all, sort of got sidetracked in my morning walk. Took the pictures of the flowers, then noticed that the pool need vacuumed so put on a suit and went out to do that, and DGD talked me into staying in the pool with her. So it turned into a very lazy morning.

We are going to a neighbors this afternoon at 4:00, for a cook out. There will be about 50 people there, and they will have a live band. So I am looking forward to it. It is hot here, but a breeze is blowing, so it doesn't feel as hot as it really is. I pulled some weeds while on the morning walk, and need to go get the wheelbarrow and get them picked up.

Gonna try to post the pictures of the flowers that I have. Don't know what they are, so if anyone does, speak up.

Sarv - so happy you are gonna join the Grandma club. When? And I'd gladly give you some rain. It's hot and humid here again today and we are under a watch for severe thunder storms. Guess there's no point in repairing the edging of the garden for a couple of days.

Will have to head back to pick up the twins before too long. Was there till about 11:30 this morning holding Nolan's hand; but he seemed fine when I did leave. Stopped at 5 places that sell patio furniture on my circuitous route home looking for a smaller table for our screened porch. Most were humongous outdoor tables. We might end up with plantation teak.

Ann

Starkville, MS

D'cat - not lazy - spending requested time with a Grandchild is SO valuable!!! Enjoy every moment you can with her, especially if she asks! She will all too soon outgrow that, and it will be awhile before she returns to that "groove" where Grandma is so special. Make the most of it. That goes for you too, Ann. Nolan will learn to make his way, but you will always be there for him to fall back and lean on.

It is a bit cooler today - only 88 at 1:00. Cloudy, but not supposed to rain until tomorrow. I'll take what I can get! I have managed to get quite a few small things done - mulching, a couple of plants actually in the ground, etc. Nothing major, but plugging along.

Vi - I am already a member of the 'granny club' - we only have one DGS, so this will be #2. He is already 9 yrs old, so we've been without a baby-baby for several years. This is my difficult DIL, so I am treading on needles so to speak. Don't want to seem too nosy, but yet don't want her to think I am disinterested... Guess I will just be myself! LOL

Batch #2 of cherry juice is in the making. For this batch I am cooking the cherries down, putting the moosh in a colander and then the liquid into jars and adding sugar. It still seems tart to me, but DH likes things that way, so we'll give it a try.

defoe- sheesh, those are some neighbors- a live band!! It is really quiet and kinda boring here today, but that's ok with me. My highlight of the day is going to be going to McD for an ice cream cone!!

tgif-it is 85 deg here and sunny - and oh so dry. I have water on the veggie garden - it looks pretty pitiful...

Time to smoosh cherries again!!

Happy Independence Day!

Just after I finished a first coat of oik-based enamel on one bedroom and the hallway, my neighbor came over and asked me to go to a large yard sale with her at a nearby church. Of course I said Yes! Since it was after 1 pm, many sellers had gone home already but I managed to spend $1.30 on 7 advertising tins (reproductions I'm sure) and 25¢ on a witches hat for Halloween.

She then took me on a driving tour and treated me to lunch at a new restaurant in town. Wasn't that sweet? Turns out she is delighted to have a neighbor who likes yard sales and visiting antique stores.

Whoops... BIG thunder and lightning close by. I'll be back later!

Starkville, MS

Well, the clouds left and it is now 94 and still very humid. I cannot for the life of me figure out where the humidity is coming from! It sure isn't out of this dry concret/clay soil! I did manage to put in another load of pine straw mulch around the new faucet. I *hate* walking on wet (from the faucet - not rain!) red clay!! Now I can get to the faucet to turn it on without gaining ten pounds from the mud on my shoes.

That cherry juice sounds good. I like things like that a little on the tart side. My neighbor used to have a pie cherry tree. We were always told to whistle while we picked! I made the best cherry cobblers out of those cherries. That tree got some kind of blight, but hopefully some small volunteers will come through in a few more years.

Well, I don't see that pile of pine straw moving itself to the flower bed, so I guess I better get out there and help it along.

Darius, On great thing in life is to have wonderful neighbors, you are so lucky.
Sarv, send me some of those cherries, just love them'
Expecitng thunderstorms here too later in the evening

Ann, I too was looking for a small table for my porch, every one huge as can be, finally found one, has normal table height, and folds, it could be taken any where, such as the beach or a picnic if you don't want to eat of the ground, lol

Bonnie, tell us about your neighbors party, sounds like a lot of fun

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello and happy Independance Day. It's hot here already, 88 and rising but thankfully with low humidity so far. We might get thunderstorms this evening, but I hope not since there is something I want to watch on TV. I really enjoy the 4th of July concert from Washington DC. We borrowed a fruit picking ladder from a neighbor and trimmed some overhanging limbs on a big tree in our yard, and now the TV works again. The satellite dish is a fussy thing, it doesn't like storms either. I didn't think those limbs way up there were the problem, but what do I know? Anyhow, I steadied the ladder and my hubby got up there with a pruner on a pole to cut branches. They fell into the flower bed but were small enough not to hurt anything.

Congratulations on the coming grandchild, Sarv. I hope her pregnancy and delivery is normal and uneventful.

Maria, thanks for posting the picture. It says a lot, and so does your reminder about appreciating our freedom. Yes, those other folks do have a right to just sit there while the flag goes past, but it is disrespectful to all those who fought and died for it. The man standing in front of his wheelchair appreciates what the flag stands for.

Defoe, swimming pool in the morning, bbq and live music in the afternoon, life is good!

I just went down to the neighbors and got a pickup load of broken hay bales. We were down to the last 1/3 of a bale of hay, good for one more feeding. The horses will appreciate a new flavor.

We don't have any plans for today, just watching the celebration on TV. I'll be outside periodically trying not to get too hot while I'm watering, pulling weeds and taking a short ride on Breezy. He was coughing yesterday, but I think it was from old hay in a big tire feeder, he had his nose down in it while picking out the good stuff. The old hay has some moldy streaks in it and I shouldn't have put it in the tire where the breeze couldn't carry the dust away. So now I'm feeding them on the ground and need to ride him so he will cough and get rid of the junk in his lungs. The old hay was removed from the feeder and will be mulch for a flower bed.

Pati, thanks for th link to the shuttle information. I'll check that out.

Everybody have a great day/evening.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Hope everyone had a great day today..

Sarv. congratulations its so wonderful to have a Baby once more.. Hope things go very smooth for you and dil...

have great week every one.. Darius nice you have got aquant. with new neighbors to..

Fourteen qts of juice done - enough for today!!

DH made cardboard pizza for dinner- a real celebration here for sure!! LOL Folks are coming out- we'll play a game of rummycube for fun.

Darius - it is wonderful having super neighbors. Ours are just like our family - they are the reason we don't move into a different house. We vacation with them all the time - their kids are like our kids. How's the sis coming with the house selling? And the kid? - still with her BF?

As I was doing the juice, looking out back, I saw our neighbor running thru our yard with a pistol drawn -shooting. It was so funny. There was a raccoon in our cherry tree and he finally got it- took him 8 shots!! That makes 8 little ones and an adult. I'm glad our neighbor takes care of the wild animals - DH could never do it...he's a wimp!

Pizza's ready...gotta go while it is hot
