I bought one of those at the last SF sale Zuzu. I have no clue what I did with it though. I love it even if it is too small for my yard.
Anyway, the guy today told me he gets his best begonias at Berkeley Bot. sales. Why oh why haven't I gone?? Because they have them on Friday nights...the preview and that is date night.
Sue and you too Lali were supposed to go to the huge spring one. We blew it. You know Candy goes to them, gets lots of rare plants there I think she said. Said the spider to the fly.
Well shoot, Sue you got that at Annies? For how much? Is it the same as mine? It looks identical. Did you tell me that yesterday?
Fun tendrils
It's very much like a Bletilla, Sue, but smaller and shorter.
Kingdom of Miniature Plants is in Sebastopol too. That place is a lot of fun. The first time I went there, some man showed me around the place and kept stuffing little pots of alpine plants into my purse and pockets and telling me not to tell anyone. I thought he was worried the owner might catch him, but he turned out to be the owner. I don't know what all the cloak and dagger stuff was about.
I have met him at shows, Zuzu. Lucky you! I went there once. I drove up and down that terrible road outside of his place trying to figure out where it was.
Lali, your Butterfly looks great. And it is opening wide for you. Here it was not hot enough and it never really opened wide.
Oh I got the scoop on Annies today. She is going to go mailorder full time and not sell in nurseries anymore. I guess she will keep just a few of her oldest and most favorite nursery customers. Evidently, she can get more money per plant mailorder than wholesale. Her mailorder business is booming.
I had noticed that the local nurseries don't have an Annie's Annuals section anymore, although East Bay had all of Annie's stuff, but without Annie's tags.
Will she keep the retail business in Richmond going, or is she closing that down too? I would hate to pay those mail order prices for everything I want from Annie's. We'd better go there soon and buy lots of everything we ever wanted.
This could be more important than food, GGK.
Oh my Sue, how do you manage keeping all those alive over winter without a geenhouse?
Oh my gosh,
You all have so much fun and are always are so excited I just wish I had more time. I love your pictures. I need to win the lotto so I could quit work and just shop for plants full time. My daughter would be so happy if I didn't work. My DH on the other hand would not. I enjoy your pictures and posts so much I feel like I know you all.
Linda
OK, to get back on topic here, (we always run off with each other's threads after a shopping/nursery/garden visit!) behind this ground cover (antenoron neofiliforme) and fucshia, up the hillside, there were several huge trees of brugmansia, including the one big gold one in this thread. Trust me, really, even though I forgot to get a picture of it!

Gee Sue , what were you doing that you forgot to take a picture? LOL
I can't find antenoron neofiliforme online anywhere. I can only find http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53502/index.html
Do you think they are the same?
Kin, that is why I am fat. When I find have to haves beyond my budget, I just live on stored fat for the month!! I am a genius. LOL
Sue, your 2nd pic of Berkeley Hort GH of bromeliads.....see that huge one in the corner top right? I think that is the one I bought at Longs after and only because of that one in their GH. Such a looker. Did you catch the name at B.H.?
Hi Patricia!! We missed you! Next month you have to come join us for sure. We had such fun. I was making you a card last night and got sidetracked. The story of my life. One big sidetrack. Oh and yesterday Tom, manager of Ace, had an open garden. His yard is unbelievable. One garden room after another. His property is 25 feet wide by 300 feet long. It was such fun! Next year we all have to go.
As I walked up the street to the open garden, I did not have to look at street numbers, I just knew which house it was going to be. LOL
Oh my gosh, his yard is to die for !! kell you would have been so proud of me this morning . I moved all your seedlings from the last seeds you gave me up to gallon pots and managed to do it without even getting dirt in my bandages. My husband would have killed me for sure if he had seen me working in the dirt.
Here I found an old picture of some that got into a pot with EP.. It looks to be the same.

Kin, yes I love tha knotweed but that image I barely notice it with all the lovely distractions! What crocosmia is that red one?
maybe I better pass on anything with the word 'weed' in it. :-0
Kell, is that also a knotweed? Wow, love the variation!
Ok, so go ahead and run away on this thread and post all the pictures of that garden, I must see more!!!!
oh and I didn't look at any names in B.H. greenhouse, sorry.

For shame on you Patricia! You are going to do too much and pay for it. Please go easy!
Kin, you called me fat? How rude. LOL Why does your EP look like that and mine always is so ugly?
Patricia, his backyard was the bomb. (is that the right term?) LOL!! It went back 300 yards and he had all these paths and all these little garden rooms including a dining room, a bedroom, a living room (with a rug no less and mirror, LOL), a meditation room, a spa room, a potting shed room, a veggie garden room and even more..............all set up as garden rooms with plants as the walls. It was just amazing. True masters of the garden room.
Here is the bedroom.
Oh Lali, I do remember the incident but I didn't remember what you got only that I wanted it too! LOL. It reseeds. More light, more red. It is charming.
Ok, I have to get ready to go to lunch or I will be late. I found the best restaurant, tres delish! Next year when Dr. Don and Pam come, I already have it planned we are starting here for lunch before we go to Filoli. Anyone in the area, it is FANTASTIC. Tom and I love it so much. It is better than a lot of the SF places we go to. http://viognierrestaurant.com/
OK, who can guess what this is?? Tom got it at the Berkeley Botanical Garden sale. WE MUST GO to the next one.
Why must you taunt me like this!
Woops, forgot to post my answer. Begonia 'San Miguel'?
That garden is 'da bomb'!
Hurry back and post more
and yummy......
And I forgot to add, Lali you can't play! You are too good! LOL
So do you have it, lady? And guess what was right next to it? And do NOT say what it is Lali. And funny, how us plant craziis must have all the weird ones even if they are ugly. Though in my defense, I bought mine for Susie.
Anyone know what this one is?
Thank you for taking us on your trip it was a lot of fun. Joan
yes, I'm shameless. I have it. I have that 'I must have one of everything' syndrome. But with begonias, it's more like 'I must have every single one' syndrome!
I'm sick, I know.
And I know what it is.. (said in a playground sing-song taunting voice!)
And hey, ugly is all in the eye of the beholder, right? I think it's a beauty!
kell, it looks like some kind of geranium. but what is it?
It's a begonia, I know I saw an image somewhere at one time, just can't find it now and I'm off to the hospital.
Talked to my Dad on phone just a bit ago and he was fully coherant, answering and understanding everything but my Mom wasn't there yet so I don't know what happened since last night and I didn't want to tax him by asking too much. :-)
yes Lali, you are sick! And we can't even relate! LOL
Oh Sue, I wonder if they started him on decadron and that reduced the swelling and took the pressure off his brain somewhat. How is he tonite?
Hi Joan, glad you like the pics. I am going to post some on the tropical Foprum for it truly is a tropical paradise.
Tom and Randy did have some brugs! They had a big CG, and a Dr. Seuss I didn't even notice so it must have been on the perimeter which was hard to notice as I was so busy looking at plants closer to me. There was a huge white suav that was so huge it draped over an arbor, and also a big Hetty Krauss which had only old blooms but they had long tendrils so I think it was the same as the one at the Arboretum.
And they had the biggest Snowbank with lots of variegation, I have ever seen. So sad, it was so sunny, I didn't get a good picture. Tom said it gves him absolutely no trouble at all and is his favorite brug. Flowers all the time.
This is it in the center of the picture. Sorry I know it is bad. But I know lots of peole have had such trouble with it. I think it may like our cooler weather for I have no trouble with it either.
Kell sounds like you ladies really had a ball. I know we always do when we can all get together a few time over summer. Still wishing I could drive to Mz Munchies house. I really miss being able to jump in my truck and go for the weekend. Still not up to driving 2 1/2 hours and kind of afraid too of being in an accident. I get really nervous in heavy traffic now especially when DH is driving. I am a bad Back Seat driver ROFL!!!!!!!!!!! He tells me he is going to put me out on the side of the road!!!!
Do you have photos of any more of the garden rooms?
Hey Donna, so what is with that? I too now am a terrible back seat driver. Does this fear replace our hormones? And every time I would scream as I cringed and held onto the seat for dear life, my DH would go nuts and I would picture my parents! LOL. I finally told him he is to respond with love, affection and reassurance that he is not about to kill us both or I will bite him. LOL!! He no longer views it as an attack on his oh so manly driving abilities.
Oh I have lots of pictures, Delisa........I am going to post them in Tropicals and in Curb Appeal as soon as I have time. Also some in bromeliads as they had tons of them planted all over. How someone could transform a tiny, odd shaped yard into a huge feeling one is amazing to me.
