Here is a seedling I grew out which is not mine. Its main claim to fame is its tendrls. Don't you think it is cute? It is a medium size bloom with a pleasant colored skirt but the corolla tube is the typical white.
Fun tendrils
Those are nice .. reminds me of that ribbon you can curl!
X
I love that curl *S*
That is cute, Kell. I like that.
Very nice Kell !!
I like the tendrils... they give some attitude to the otherwise "normal" skirt. Nice flower!
that's what I like so much about Tatiana. Her long tendrils curl up so much for me
If that one progresses to a named one, it should be "Curly-Q". What a pretty bloom it is!!
Barb
How fun that one is!
I like it. : )
There was a little girl, who had a little curl - da da da! You bet she's cute, Kell. I would think this is a keeper as it would be so neat to breed the curl into a double blue or such. :)
Tussee
Kell, that one is definitely a keeper.
Will you be allowed to name her?.......................We can help :0))
Janett
I actually wasn't thinking of really keeping her. Though the tendrils are sure nice. And she has a double pink as a Mom. So maybe I will put some DP pollen on her. I know double pinks are hot to get right now, but I am more into a perfect single pink.
She is keeping her nicer form today, though last week when we were so warm here, she recurved so much I found her ugly.
Janett, what would you name her?
Here she is today. Funny how taking the picture day or night does not change the color. One just has light going thru and the other doesn't.
Odd. My brugs are more recurved and the tendrils curlier in cool weather.
Take a pic in full sun. Not dappled sun. You might see a difference.
Curly Delight
Admit it .... you used eyelash curlers on them. (Do they still make eyelash curlers?)
Kell I realy like the way she opens and curls up so high. I have been looking at her for a long time and running the pointer along her carves. They go so high and down so low. The white is not very pretty but I sure like the rest. Joan
LOL Mary! Too funny!
OK, you guys have convinced me. I will not toss her. I will put Ruthie on her to darker her up and hopefully she will keep her long tendrils. Also Ruth is just huge, so maybe she will get bigger too. She is one of those brugs that needs work, a generation or 2 of breeding and some good luck.
Janett, a great name with personality
Joan, you are such a nice lady, you like everything! LOL. I tell you, if I ever needed a big boost, I would sure look to you.
If I think of it, I will take her pic tomorrow early. Though it won't change anything, she still will be a pleasant looking pink but nothing to thrill you with. I guess it may depend on how your camera handles light and flash. Mine is pretty consistent but it is a good digital.
The trouble with this one is she did not Y till she went over 9 ft. so I have to get on a ladder to play with her.
Kell I know you have to pick out the best but some of us would love to have a chance at some of your throw aways. I don't plan to hybridize. I just love having them in my yard to look, smell and feel.
Kell That is a cutie! I think you used some dippity doo to obtain those curls....LOL
You take some of the best pictures of your Brugs. I would have a hay day during the night in your Brugmansia Plot....LOL Then again I don't think I have that many flashlights to obtain the effect that I would want!!
;-)
Sandy, you are smart. Once you start making like a bee, you end up with way too many of these. It makes it easier to off them when you have so many, though I still get qualms. Plus it is much cheaper to buy the best ones that catch your fancy even at ebay prices then to grow all of these. They suck your money right out of your pocket.
I was about to toss one in a 5 gallon pot and when I went to grab it on garbage day, it had at least 100 blooms on it. How could I? So I am going to try to unload it on some friends. I am hoping a DIL of a friend will want it if she sees it in bloom. No one I know wants anymore of these. I even ask strangers walking by. LOL. My mailman has 2.
Lali asked me for some for her niece and I ran and saved 3 beautiful standards from the toss pile at work. I was so happy to have someone to give them too. All beautiful hybrids but too similar to others already out there.
I just went outside to take the picture of the one that saved herself by putting out an admirable flush for a 5 gallon pot. It is 57 degrees, just after 7AM. I froze. The high today will be 64. Ruthie is changing color right in front of me. Shucks.
LOL Kin, I remember dippity doo !!! Do they still make it? I think I need it now.
Oh Kin, I just was out taking a pic of one brug and of course starting snapping other pics. I was freezing too, though as I look out I see a hummer buzzing this very brug, the curly Q one. Maybe it is the roses under it. I guess hummers do not mind the cold.
This tree is blooming right now. It is on the side of my house, the place where plants go to die. LOL. It has grown enough that it part can now be seen when I go into my front door. It is such a cheerful sight when in bloom.
And here is lovely sight. A standard bougie Rosea that I love so much. I had repotted it last year from a 5 gallon it had been in for 2 years to a 15 gallon.
Then decided this year to put it in a bright blue ceramic pot. My DH helped me get it out of its old pot. Well half the root ball broke off for it had not gotten potbound. Right there I had a breakdown. It was fully budded and I thought I had lost it. I had learned years ago that if you disturb a bougie's root system, it dies. Well it did not skip a beat. Thank goodness. And it is in happy bloom.
I remember dippity doo and the paper tape girls put on the curl to keep it in place until it dried.. LOL guess we are showing our age.......
He he he. I don't know if they still make it. I don't need to use it on my 3 hairs. LOL
Wow that is a beautiful !! Guess it got the hint that it better perform or will die.
It's cooled down a little here and now I hear Thunder. No word or mention of a thunder storm I think our weather is really mixed up Kell. It's 58 here right now which is pretty normal we have cool nights here in the W. Valley.
Here is an ugly pic of part of the rest of that brug in a 5 gallon pot. The poor thing can't even stand upright for it is right under the back of a tree I have and so squeeshed in. But look at all the blooms. Such a strong plant deserves to live.
It has been living in my side yard reserved for plants that have their days numbered. I guess it knew that and put out its best even though neglected, no fertilizer, rarely any water and in a 5 gallon pot. I couldn't even take its full picture for there was no room for me to even back up far enough away.
I hope you get everything safe, Kin. Take care. That is one thing about us here, even though we are cool most of the time, we have no storms all summer. No rain and no storms, usually just in the 70s every single day from May to November. This is why I can never leave here.
The purple tree is planted in the ground, never at risk. The potted plants I drag to that side when they start to look poorly but not bad enough toss, are the ones that have their days numbered.
I'll take a few standards Kell, really! I want to line my sidewalk like GardenGuyKin.
Well shoot Sue, I will see if I can save some more at work. They may have tossed them already. You should have said something!! Want that pink one above? It has 2 trunks in the pot, but you can cut one off and reroot it for another standard. I have another one next to it in a 5 gallon pot but I do not remember what it is.
In the last month, I have tossed so many trees from the plots. The other day I had Tom dig out a huge one that was so pretty. I will keep you in mind now.
Oh I have one I brought home of Susie's that I didn't have the heart to kill. It is a tall standard but in a 5 gallon so it need to be potted up to look good. I bet I have a lot actually around here that I need to get rid of if I look around.
Are you picky as to color or form?
Well the Storm passed pretty quick. The Thunder stayed for sometime though. I love Thunder and Lightning but not the damage it can do. Got a little bit of hail but no damage. Yippee!
Gosh Kell that Bougie is just loaded with blooms. I hope it likes it's new pot. By the looks of it now it's gonna take over!
Looking out towards the street under the safety of the carport.
Sue, What a good idea having the sidewalk with standards. I'm really liking the look so far this year. They should grow a lot taller this month for me also.
Kell you can just cut me a huge thick chunk of several inculding the one in tis thread. I have beter lich with the thick part of the trunk.
I have a want list probably everyone you picture on here. Like Red...
LOL
Sandy ^8^
Kell do you think I could talk DH into driving to Ca. to bring back 8 or 9' brugs. I think he would know that I have finally lost it for good. Oh well that is life. Thank you for the pictures and how you do thing. It realy helps to know the every day thing bout growing brugs. Joan
I really like the curley one Kell
I have one of your L'amour X's that bloomed pink and the tendrils were outa control......HUGE
It Y'd at about 3 feet
the next day i went to take a picture and all the blooms were lying on the ground from a peacock attack
waiting for another flush
I can't wait to see it too CC!
If you want special brugs, get some good seeds, that is the best way to get tall standards too! Just make sure you do your research and pic seeds with good parents. In 1 year, you can have great standards!
I have so much seed but I am so pathetic in getting it packaged. I wish I had a neighborhood kid I could hire to do it for me.
Oh Kin that pic os so neat. LOL. Is that a variegated abutilon with the maple leaves? Too cool.
My big bougie in the back is in flower. My pride and joy. I planted it about 25 years ago. It got a haircut this month with the new fence being put in, but it still is so huge. It is the first thing I look at every morning when I open my eyes. Sometimes I lie in bed looking at it thinking how grand life can be.
Soon it will be solid purple and you won't see green at all.
Sure I'll take that pink although you know I am more partial to the warm colors now, orange, yellows, creams and whites of course. Butout front I have two light pink crepe myrtles along the sidewalk so not much I can do about those so I still mix in cool colors here and there.
Kell, I think she's sweet! I've not been to the brug forum in weeks and am finding some beauties posted here!
I definitely love the long curly tendrils and think the flower is a pretty one.
Gosh Kell your yard looks beautiful. How about posting pictures of your whole yard. Also your throw away plants are amazing. I just started with brugs last year and so far have only had one bloom. I was so excited and it was nothing compared to your rejects.
LOL I have come to the conclusion that I need more organization and more room.
I enjoy your pictures.
Linda
