This is a Hawthorn cutting. Does anyone know what this swelling is. My other cutting doesn't have it.

That's cedar/hawthorn rust--do a google search on that

That's pretty bad!! Well, I cut it off and sprayed it. Will I lose the whole thing? I read an article, but it didn't say whether it could be cured or not.

Cornel Cooperative has an article. There's fungicide that gets sprayed before the flowering occurs in the spring.
