Hypericum kalmii

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

This shot has grown on me, as has the plant in general. It is leggy, and typically has a lot of dead wood, but the flowers are awesome.

I've been seeing Hypericum androssemum a lot more lately, even in some commercial landscapes. Usually it looks great, but I've killed it twice.

H. kalmianum -- in my experience it's hard to keep alive more than a few years, just like other shrubby St. Johnswort species. But they do self seed well, so you'll always have a few if you don't mind them moving around.
