Pearlbush: Will deer leave it alone????

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

Is it worth trying a Pearlbush in my front yard where the big rats have their way with whatever interests them?

I know they leave my azaleas, rhodos, viburnums, rugosa roses and some wiegalas alone. would like to try this, but not if somebody else has already fed it to the deer....

Deer won't leave ANYTHING alone. IMHO those supposed deer-proof plants just haven't yet met the right deer yet -- they seem to have variable tastes just like humans. But don't let that stop you.

We have two species of pearlbush here and deer haven't bothered them -- they're near the dog pen.

I think it depends on how desperate they get....since there is almost always SOME nice green stuff available here, some of the less tasty stuff they seem to leave alone....put snow on the ground, and then it would probably be "Katy bar the door"!!!

what I would like to know is if they consider a Pearlbush real tasty, or if they only eat it as a last resort.

Michael

Oh they'd probably eat it sooner or later. Exochorda racemosa is Asian in origin but never underestimate the willingness of a hungry critter to eat anything in its path.
